so here is my question. should reviewers deduct points from the xbone version if its running at a lower resolution or looks worse compared to the ps4 version?

Generally no. Games should be evaluated based on their own hardware. The Xbox One is less powerful than the PS4, so games are expected to look somewhat worse. That said, if performance is an issue, or if graphics are worse than they should be even accounting for the hardware difference, then sure.

Seems like the Sessler thing might be related to his job rather than perceived Xbox news? Anybody else get that inclination?

Yeah, I think you're right. Although it seems to be related to other journos' jobs too.

At any rate I don't think it's anything worth tearing down society over.

It has taken on a mind of its own. You can't stop it. It'll wade through you, reach down your living room, and pull your fucking Kinect out.

I don't know Adam Sessler personally and I haven't seen or read or watched his work but I did see his comment about how GTA5 was a window into our culture or something and I thought that was pretty bizarre. But Kim Kar-dent-shian and Gies are what they are.

I did like his Knack preview though! lol!

But Sessler said he was looking forward to this weekend and that something happened to make him not look forward to the weekend. I mean what would ruin your weekend? It would not be something earth shattering that consumers would be concerned with. To me it reads more like he was looking forward to playing X and then something happened and now he is not.

-Girlfriend got crabs
-it rained
-the NFL game you wanted to watch isn't on because they're showing the Rams instead

The X1 specs aren't that far behind the PS4's, right? I mean going from 1080 to 720 seems pretty drastic, especially for a COD game. What am I missing?

Only if you're talking raw clock numbers. There's more to the specifications than that.

It honestly sounds to me like they are crying because they are not getting their review consoles as planned. Maybe they decided to send out the review consoles closer to launch but initially they were going to send them out early.

It would explain why some people in the press are upset: "I was looking forward to this weekend" for example. It would also explain why people are saying Xbox Reviews are being delayed. It's also a "stupid" reason as Gies said.

If that is the case, sorry guys, I don't feel bad for you. Guess you'll have to wait like the rest of us. At least you don't have to spend $500 plus tax on yours.
Consumers get hurt by reviewers not getting consoles. I'd like them to have as long as possible to experience them before writing up their reviews.

Since when do journalists not reveal things that they know? This is so retarded, we shouldn't listen to anyone except blogs that have nothing to lose and CBOAT.

Maybe, I don't know. Trying to decipher Sessler (with Geis) is like trying to complete a rubik's cube with your elbows. Just a dumb idea from a dumb man such as myself. :p

This thread exploded since I went out. Regarding the latest tweets...what if Microsoft is leaving the videogame industry or looking to sell that division?

Well that's definitely a possibility, but Ballmer is still CEO. The wheels wouldn't be put into motion until after he was gone.

The One seems to be running on 3 different OSes from what I've read, so the possibility for fuckups is certainly a lot higher than the 360, especially when at least one of them is based on Windows. :-/
Again, if all that info from months back still is correct.
But it's supposed to be based around Windows 8, which sounds stable enough. So in a way it just makes this even more crazy.

Yes, they have. Windows ME was God-awful. My old Compaq Presario desktop (64MB RAM, 30GB HDD) would lock-up multiple times a day because of it.

Yeah, you and a couple of other GAFfers have said this; thankfully I never had to touch that, but I'll give it some reading (thnx Sophia ;)

What the hell is he even getting on about? "Truth to power" lmao.
Someone else made a post w/ the definition (can't find it, this thread's moving too fast), basically about Quaker ideologies or something in 1950s America regarding not being intimidated to speak the truth on stuff.

So maybe Adam's finally gonna say 'fuck the NDAs' and tell us what he knows.

Insane For Sony
So basically they sent debug consoles to press to review games, but games can't yet be ran on them, until some activation procedure is sorted out at MS? That picture with Forza failing to activate speaks to this. Funny thing is, they'll only be able to start reviewing after the embargo date, not just post an already written review on that date.

That is not how the real world works. If you have a game on both platforms and one runs better and looks better on the other, then you say so. And dock the one that looks worse, they did it this gen and better continue next gen.

no? No its not a possibility. MS isn't leaving the game industry right before its console launches and its spent millions on marketing deals and advertising.

2 tweets all of a sudden means madness? What am I missing?

I've been thinking the same thing. I would trust a Klepek report.

I've been thinking about this. Remember after the whole DRM 180 thing broke, he kept on speculating on how crazy/hard it would be for them to suddenly change something that was built into the OS and all that. Maybe he was hinting at something?

Really? I mean with that logic, then the PC version running at 4k should be scored 10's and the PS4/Xbox One version of games a 6.

No. Home consoles will always be compared to each other, PC, not so much. PC quality is relative to what you put in the box, as a consumer (graphics card etc) but home console is standard hardware you pay for - so it can be compared in absolute terms (you pay X for X) it's more comparable.

That's the thing people still don't get. Relative to prior console generations, the difference between the two consoles are huge. Not Wii vs the HD twins huge, but it's an almost unprecedented gap between otherwise similar products.

Of course not. I mean it's a possibility for the future (2016).

Here is the gist

1. Xbox one is struggling to reach 1080p resolution on some of their games due to immature tool sets and esRAM which is currently hindering ease of development

2. The OS itself is likely buggy and will be on launch date

3. DRM fix might not come on launch date

Can someone direct me to the origin of this? That's kind of huge.

I would argue that is subjective, not everybody needs a review to decide if they want to buy a game or not. I mean I read them to, but I make my own decisions. I can see the argument though if there is some kind of fundamental flaw in the game though or if it is just plain awful.

Seems pretty clear that what they are bitching about is that MS is imposing strict NDAs that go beyond date and actually restrict them from talking about console vs console performance.
