• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

I need tips on beating up my girl. FGC get in here and help me.

So lately me and my gf spend most of our weekends playing all the (classic) fighting games the PS2 has to offer, you name it, we play it.

All the Bloody Roars, the Tekken series, Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, Capcom Classics, Anniversary etc, SF Alpha 3 . DoA 2. Soul Caliber series...

I need some advice on how to beat her, she kicks my ass in all games except Capcom ones...
I'm a Street Fighter "champ" (not really) but much better than her.

Last night I almost "cried" and broke the controller, couldn't beat her in Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur 2 ...

She kept on beating me with Xianghua in SC2.. I didn't have any game against her at all with my characters...

My question is: With all the games I mentioned above, (minus the Capcom ones) Is there a technique, is there a broken character I can pick and spam her with moves and beat her, when I get into a pickle? Honestly I am asking for that "magic button" to win, or that "character" where if I can keep spamming "that move" I could beat her.

Basically who is the best character(s) to main in DoA 2, in SC2 and 3? What about the best characters in Bloody Roar 3 and 4? (shitty games I know)

and Tekken series and so on.

Also I can;t help but want to play the latest and greatest versions of DoA, Tekken, and Soul Caliber.. Is it worth to buy the latest versions of these games on PS3 or stick with the old ones?

In your expert opinions, which one is the best iterations of the the following series'?

Dead or Alive
Virtua Fighter
Tekken
Soul Calibur
Bloody Roar

Also can you recommend me a nice fighting game on the PS3/PSN or the PS2 that I may not have?

EDIT: DISCLAIMER: I never actually cried or broke my controller, I just get a bit emotional and intense during clutch, close matches... all in good fun, I do toss the controller in the air, like a pizza dough (lob it) and catch it...That's about it, just to reset my focus etc.

What an unfortunate thread title.

To answer you:

Dead or Alive 5
Virtua Fighter 5
Tekken 5
Soul Calibur 2
Bloody Roar 1

I recommend Divekick for you!

Really good work on this thread title... Thought you were Chris Brown for a second...

On topic: Practise, practise, practise

EDIT: GODDAMN Edwardo :(

Are you crazy fool? Always let her win, even if you CAN beat her.

Dude.. I don't need to "let" her win, sometimes she feels sorry for me, but she's classy enough not to sandbag me and do her best and win....

My pride gets shattered too many times though, I need to start winning in the 3D games like Soul Caliber, it was so close though last night, we played best to 15 matches, she beat me 15 to 13... in SC 2. It was soo damn close, I got so frustrated... her Xianghua character was unbeatable.

I'd like to hear your explanation on why you're not playing Garou: Mark of the Wolves (AKA Fatal Fury MOTW)

Also get out dat D and beat her to death with it!

Cause the D button is for dealing strong punches.

Didn't you just date with some girl 2 weeks ago? (while taking a shit afterwards behind some tree) or is this the same girl?

Completely Off Topic, I know, sorry for that.

Just let her win, enjoy those moments together because if you keep winning I don't think she will have the mood to keep playing with you.

Just put in a bit of practice time and you'll probably be able to beat her.

The thing is we both have busy lives, the only time we play these games is when were' together, I cannot practice on my own when she's away, don't have the time, also most of these are PS2 games that are not online.

Speaking strictly from what I know best, which happens to be SSFIV AE (2012) I know playing against the CPU offline doesn't help much in improving, or does it for these PS2 3D classics?

In Tekken, you picked Eddy and press X and O.

Well you can either be a gentleman or play DOA5.

Protips? Stop mashing and find out how shit works.

After that perhaps some KOF?

EDIT: I just reread the OP because there was something wrong with it that I forgot. lol you cried and almost broke the controller?..... Is your gf cute?

Real talk: If you want to win in DOA, learn to counter. If you want to beat her in SC2 learn to GI.

SC2 has multiple story mode missions that teach you how to GI

Also, don't get up as soon as she knocks you down in SC. Roll a sec then get up.

I taught my ex how to play fighters, now she beats me consistently. My advice, learn to zone. Somehow, no matter what I do teach her, she doesnt get. She can easily outcombo and block faster than me and her execution is alot better, but she doesnt understand spacing and how to play keepaway.

Pick Sim in A3, any -Ism, all 3 are top 3 in the game.

Stop mashing.

VF4EVO has a very robust training mode and tutorials. This helped me understand fighting games in general not just VF4EVO.

For any 3D game, if she is just pushing buttons and winning, block and sidestep more.

If she knows how to play and flat out better, you're just gonna have to training mode that shit.
