famousmortimer: Xbox One OS and Xbox Live issues bouncing about as we approach launch

I think flipping that switch and removing the DRM is causing an undue amount of headache considering what every developer would be running into as they approach the launch of a online network. Whatever problems are normally fought at this time are being compounded.

Considering how multiplayer is absolutely huge on Xbox, this is a major issue. I'm glad I will have a (hopefully) fully functional ps4.

MS trying to hide this things is shameful and so unethical

Fuck i almost feel that they tries to sell us a beta testing pass for $500

Yeah, they're hiding the development of an unreleased OS that's still in beta.

It's sad how they did so well with the 360's OS that they're going backwards. But the article states this won't affect games, I can live with it.

This is the sort of thing that will determine the dominant platform for popular multiplayer titles among dudebros. Average frat guy sitting 10 feet from a 30 inch television isn't even going to register that COD plays on 1080p on System A while COD plays on 720p on System B; average frat guy probably wouldn't even be able to tell a difference unless someone told him.

But fuck with the convenience of getting in a party with friends and that news will spread like wildfire through the communities that don't visit GAF or /v/ or even IGN.

if online play is fucked and buggy for weeks after launch, that's a pretty big deal. I wouldn't' write it off so quickly as something that can be easily fixed when Mort's own sources think it could take weeks/months. Think about the number it did on PS3's image when PSN was compromised and down for a month. Imagine that happening on a system where online play is so vital like XBL.

It really is like Sony and MS traded places.

Yeah and I'm pretty sure if basic functions like the ones mentioned in the OP don't work, then other extraneous functions are probably equally borked.

Reading over this: voip might have problems, mostly related to the back end.

Users experience dropouts when going from game to game

The one thing I'm trying to figure out is if he is suggesting there is no cross game chat...?

If it still exists and they are piping audio game to party... this seems more of a complaint towards APIs than anything.

I guess the problem is if the issues are bad enough MS will see a bunch of returns before they can get the fixes out.

I LOVE how people are downplaying this. If online connectivity and friends lists and the like are buggy at launch with the possibility of months to fixing it. This is a pretty damn big deal. You are paying for Live.

I REALLY want Thuway, CBOAT, and others to confirm and reveal what they know now.

XBL as an advantage bullet point against PSN by default this past gen no longer being the case is a big issue.

I'm having a hard time believing this honestly, or that it's that bad at least. Mort's been desperate for attention and validation lately and it could lead to poor judgement on some of these source's reports.

Like I said in the UI thread, this will be fixed so what's the issue?
.

That we don't know when it will be fixed. Why give them the benefit of the doubt that it will be all good Day 1? Do they deserve it as of now? If basic Live functionality, things that people are paying for, are fucked up and not working at or around launch that's not an issue?

The downplaying is amazing. I don't think some people realize that mort isn't the only person saying this. Proelite and others gave hints about this as well a few days ago.

This is pretty big given services and XBL/Online play are one of the major reasons why many are still going with the Xbox One despite the performance deficit and $100 higher price tag. Basically, Sony is ahead of the game on almost everything it seems. Be pretty weird if Microsoft end up screwing up XBL as well. I mean, XBL is such a massive part of the Xbox brand, any issues could have major implications to to brand image, which frankly needs all the help it can get right now.

However, this system is entirely different on Xbox One. So, lets say me, you, and Thuway have xbox one’s that are online. We are signed in our profiles. Sitting at the home screen, we are considered to be in a “Xbox Party” on the server. There are no more ‘party leaders’. With that said if any one of us decide to start a game, the party is shifted over to that game’s party system Each game now has their custom written VOIP..”

There is no way this is how they designed it. Defeats the entire concept of a party system and using Skype as the backbone. This person must be mistaken.

So I'm guessing what this is what cboat meant when he said wait for launch. Something tells me we are in for another interesting thread. Thanks for sticking your head out there to try to get the truth famousmortimer.

It's just another thing that damages the Xbox brand reputation.

Another battle won for Sony.

Disappointing for me as a big fan of the 360.

It baffles me that the software engineers working on the OS didn't thought out these things. I mean J. Allard had it figured out back in 2005.
