Typing of The Dead: Overkill (Steam, includes HOTD:Overkill)

This is the greatest thing ever, I can't wait to get back home and buy it! I loved the first one so much and have been looking for a proper way to replay it after getting rid of my DC a couple years ago. I also never played Overkill fully so this way I can enjoy both at once.

Big thanks for pointing this out. I had no idea it was coming. I just wish there was a way to disable the profanity because otherwise i wouldnt mind my son playing it (he's almost 12). Too many F-bombs.

May I have a cookie?
I'm actually excited for whatever crazy/stupid dictionary DLCs they will have.

oh man, you know what I always wanted to have in the original TotD?

custom dictionaries!

Like, the ability to just save your own text to a .txt file and have the game get it from there instead of from the default text location. Even better if the game supported Unicode so you could enter text in any language! That way people could mod TotD to learn touch typing in any language!

It's possible there's a way to do that, as the original console lightgun game had this feature as an unlockable. You may want to check back on this thread in a few days, GAF may have figured it out by then.

Didn't even know they made a Typing of the Dead game after the arcade version, this was a nice surprise... pretty hilarious as well.

+1 for wanting a higher resolution...

I hope this means that the original and the sequel are put on steam too.
I don't know what it is, but this game is just brilliant.

Okay I just sucked hard at the meat plant level and I'm still #2 in the world on hard. Leaderboards are no fun if no one plays well :/ DETHRONE ME

Interesting, thanks! I will go and beat it tonight and see if that option perhaps unlocks

I just purchased this from Steam and it got hung up where I usually get the code. I closed the tab and now I have no idea where to redeem the code. Can anyone help?

I apparently had some credit on GMG so I got this for just $5. :)

And then I had to restart Steam to get the game to show up in my library. :(

I had to restart Steam to get the game to show up too when I redeemed my key from GMG. It's the first time I've ever had to do that.

Buddy just sent me that screenshot. As if it wasn't already an insta-purchase, it absolutely is now.

I generally don't game on PC, but loved the Dreamcast Typing of the Dead dearly. Can I run this with an Intel Core I5-330S @ 2.7GHz with "Intel HD Graphics" and 8 GB RAM? Not sure if the integrated graphics are up to snuff.

If this is your CPU, it's listed as sporting "Intel HD Graphics 2500".

This game recommends at least HD 3000.

I want to buy this as my first steam game.. Does anyone know if the typing game based on house of the dead 3 ever released in the US?

I've played the first chapter and... I think the original TotD was better.

Overkill is still a fun game, mind you, but TotD seemed more... complete for a typing game. There was the tutorial mode and various practice modes that helped you practice certain aspects of typing. Power-ups were designed with typing in mind (i.e. some gave you short words, some gave you words from a certain category or similar-sounding words). There were also those little additional challenges during chapters where you had to type really quick or had to type very long words. Also, the thing I miss the most are scores that would actually show you how quick you type, your accuracy, your most problematic letters and other aspects of your typing.

Not to mention, agents don't even wear keyboards like they did in the first game. :(

While the first game looked like a game designed completely for teaching and using typing (even though it was based on an on-rail shooter), this one feels like an on-rail shooter with just typing slapped on it. There's even HUD showing you the amount of bullets until next reload (even though you don't have to reload in the typing mode).

I agree, the first game was amazing. However, this will be tons more fun since it will get co-op. All this swearing, though...

There is no toggle that I can find in options to disable swearing, although you could mute dialogue volume independently of music/sound effects volume. To some extent it's going to be unavoidable, though--Overkill is a very crass game in subject matter independent of the language.

If the dialogue volume can be reduced (sound effects and music still good?) and captions turned on, that'd work. :) Captions there?

My reaction:

"Woah Typing of the Dead. I've always wanted to play that"
"Wait, Overkill? Sweet I've always wanted to play Overkill, sucks that it won't be in its original form but Typing of the Dead seems just as awesome"
"Wait... original version included?"
"WHY DO I HAVE TO BE AT WORK FOR 5 MORE HOURS?"

This is so amazing. Overkill on Wii is one of my all time favorite games. A Typing of the Dead version was an instant purchase for me either way but to find the actual regular House of the Dead: Overkill included just for the sheer hell of it?

I still can't get enough of the soundtrack.

how do I get the hp's and the bonus shit scattered around the levels? Is that only for when playing HOTD:Overkill edition?

I had to restart Steam to get it to show up, and I bought it directly through Steam. Really weird. I could go to the game's store page and try to install it there, but it would just hang for a minute or so. Once I restarted, everything was fine.
