ToraShiro regarding the big announcement, you said it was going to be before the VGAs. How soon can we expect it? Before the PS4 launch maybe? Is it going to be another press release? Is it going to be live or another closed event like the 25th anniversay? And is there a new trailer coming at the VGAs?

Sorry, if I was allowed to be any more specific than I was, then you would have that answer. /pleaseunderstand

EDIT: Going home for the night. Will check this tomorrow morning if there are more questions.

Aye. All DLC is now free and available to anyone with Rising, and Rising with a new retail standard of 30$. That's today's big announcement, anyway.
Really now? The Facebook posts seem to suggest like only if you re-bought the game but if they're free then...whoa.

Sorry if I didn't buy them right away, other stuff was going on despite the fact it's Metal Gear Rising. ^_^;

What, I thought Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain were two parts of the same game. I'd better be able to buy both in one retail package on PS4 later.

I think the ZOE situation was different. MGS2 looked unfuckingbelieveable back in 2001, it blew everyone's mind... GZ not so much. It was developed around 512MB of RAM when you now have a console that has 8GB of it

It's nice to have dreams. Just don't be too crushed when they turn out differently.

Its gonna be 3-4 hours with some added 1-2 hours of re-playability(different way to do mission probably)

Not a bad a deal at all imo especially at 20$

At least they didn't go for 60$

And I would have bought it for 60 if that's what they were charging. I'm glad they aren't, but when it comes to things I really want price isn't a concern for me.

Was also one of the people who bought ZoE for the MGS2 demo, that game turned out to be pretty great so it wasn't a bad deal.

Nice, getting the boxed PS4 version. How long will the game be?

edit: lol no PS4 boxed copy, not bothering then. 30 quid for a digital "prologue" is a lot, they'll likely include it with the final game anyway.

That's what I figure and plan on doing. I wouldn't care about this for most games but I have physical copies of the entire series, so I'd like to continue the collection. Such a stupid decision but typical of Konami.

Since Taroshinro said there will be announcement regarding this, I will wait and see. However, I can't say I am happy with the next gen treatment. Most people who are going to chip in for this so-called demo/tutorial are likely to be MGS fans, and they will probably want to keep the game in physical copy. If the gameplay and content are done right then I don't see a problem on releasing the last/current-gen version as the same price as the PS4X1 version. I don't think the differences between the graphics quality between generation should make a 10 GBP difference.

Charging for what has basically been spoken of as a demo, yet only releasing physical copies for the lesser, older-gen versions...

This strikes me as odd and makes me feel hesitation, like basically everything else I've heard about the MGSV project so far. I really hope that like 90% of what we "know" about Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain is serious Kojima trolling because at this point my hype is at an all-time low.

ToraShiro, THANK YOU for answering the questions asked and for providing all of the information that you have provided. Extremely helpful, cannot wait for the big announcement.

Day Zeroes, I'm there. :)

EDIT: Also, I don't know why this game is being received with such negativity? Kojima said that beating the game in under 2.5 hours (no kills, no alerts, and all of that good stuff, too) gets you the highest ranking. And what has that meant in EVERY other Metal Gear game? That skipping the cutscenes is required to cut down on time, right? So, it seems to me that there is plenty of gameplay here, if 2.5 hours earns you the best rank... Oh, well. Whatever. Can't wait. I just don't get how everyone on GAF and their mother was so hyped for this a year ago (not to mention how beautiful they thought it looked), now think that it's a "good-looking for current-gen" game made for casual scum.

It doesn't matter how much content that's packed into this -- like people have already said, if this does well, publishers will take note, and start doing this more and more. If you don't want that, don't support this.

I can make exception for MGS. I'll just laughing my ass off if Ubisoft trying this with Assasins's Creed.

This is a little silly no? So what if it was developed on current gen consoles. It looks incredible and the gameplay doesn't look half bad either...

Have we ever seen any confirmed PS3/360 screens of the game for comparison? I'm cynical as all hell about next-gen at this point and am fully meaning to just grab the PS3 version as soon as possible. But heck, if it turns out there are big improvements and there's some incentive to get a full pack when both games come out, I love MGS enough that I can double dip.

Of course the amount of content matters. If, for instance, the game had 3 Skyrim's worth of content (that's my new unit of measurement) and they were selling it at that price, I would want other companies to follow that model XD

"For example in a Ground Zeroes mission, you have this mission you have rescue Chico [formerly a child soldier in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker], and a challenge within that is to clear it with no kills, no alerts, or within two hours. That’s really something that makes a huge difference in how the player perceives the whole mission."

(I apologize. Two hours, not 2.5.)

This seems a clearly case of misinformation by Konami, people think this will be a demo ala MGS2 one and I think the game will have a lot of content, at least 10 hours of content or something like that. If you watch both gameplay trailers from this year's TGS the map showed is certainly big, and I can foresee a lot of missions to do in there.

What has no excuse is the next gen tax.. meh -_-

Should be explained thoroughly soon in the big announcement. Let's all be patient about it and not quickly jump to conclusions.

The £10 next gen tax although shitty shouldn't be surprising to people. The bigger shock to me is that it's download only on next gen.

I hope there's enough content for £20 though.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
What I expect is a mission setup like that, with a bit of a larger area, because it'll be one seamless open zone instead of being broken up into segments like MGS3 was. There'll probably be multiple extractions instead of just one like in the TGS demo, since you'll have to rescue Paz as well. There'll also be a bunch of optional extra ops similar to Peace Walker's design. That's probably where the bulk of the replayability and content will come from, where they simulate different times of the day and weather conditions in that same area, with various objectives.

What I think the flow will be

9 minute intro > Snake enters, gameplay starts > first 'primary' objective is rescuing chico > includes other stuff like collecting dog tags etc and maybe optional intel stuff > rescue chico > cutscenes relating to chico and information on paz > rescue paz mission >
helicopter scene where a bomb is extracted from paz, possibly killing her in the process
> by this time miller etc informs snake that mother base is under attack and the final mission is the fight on mother base at the end of which something happens and snake becomes gravely injured, where the "game" ends.

Once you beat this, you will probably unlock "day time" for the island, since the thing chronologically is supposed to happen overnight.

Plausible scenario! I predict something very similar. However, Kojima said that something "very bad" happens at the end of GZ which explains all the hate and retaliations from both Kaz & Big Boss and called that moment the "ground zero of Snake". The prologue is called Ground Zeroes which implies that at least another ground zero is also bound to happen. I wonder what it is and what that "very bad" event is going to be. I am sure it is something we haven't seen yet in any of the trailers we have seen so far. If I had to guess I'd say it is the death of both Chico and Paz hence explains Kojima's choice of using "Here's to you" song in the first trailer.

I know this is off topic but I noticed your username, are you ChandooG on GameFAQs? I think I may have read your guides.

This was such a missed opportunity for a ZOE3 release :p.

I'm going to guess this won't be a very long game, probably under an hour if you just try to finish the main mission. Kind of like the Tanker Demo for MGS2 all those years ago. It's open world to some extent now though so this should mean the game will end up with dozens of paths to completion not to mention some sidequest type stuff that could pad out the experience to 2-3 hours. Combined with replays I guess you could spend 20-30 hours with this to justify the cost.

Seriously though I think this confirms my theory from months ago that the full MGSV will be out by the end of next year. Man you guys remember 2001 for PS2 ? so many great games, perhaps PS4 will end up the same way. It's really looking good so far.

Can somebody clarify something for me?

Is it coming to PS4, but digital version only? Is it coming out at the same time as the PS3 version?

I really don't want to have to play this on the previous gen console if a better quality version is going to be available.

Correct. I should think so.

I would pay $30 for a 10 minute demo of MGSV right now... serious

Same here, lol. I mean, I paid 50 (?) for the MGS2 demo included with ZoE originally. Just really glad that game actually turned out awesome, also.

When I Phantom Pain coming? As excited as I am for this, I will hate if we wait a year or two for the rest.

I really can't stand all this "digital only" bullshit.

I just want a physical copy that I can tangibly hold in my hands - not something solely attached to a hard drive in one of my consoles.

It will be a sad day when in the future we will have to say "Do you remember when we had physical game libraries? When games came packaged in retail stores on discs with collector's edition's sometimes?"

Why make a physical retail copy of Ground Zeroes for the PS3/360 and not do the same for the PS4/XB1?!?

That makes no sense whatsoever.

Konami is getting as bad as Capcom with this.

Your future is my 4 years ago.

Of course that's on PC with infinite backwards compatibility.

I like to collect games and their respective merchandise.

Not having physical copies of games anymore would be a travesty - an unnecessary step in a vain attempt to modernize the game playing experience.

Not for me. no thank you.

I share the same sentiment as yours but I am not going to miss out on the game because of that. That is just stupid. No offense.

When did I say I wasn't going to play it?

If I have to buy it for PS3 just to have a physical copy - even though I want it for my PS4 - than that's what I will do; but I'm not going to miss the event.

ToraShiro:

Are we decently close to the full release of MGSV: The Phantom Pain?

It has to be close - It would seem strange to release a full game a significantly long period of time after it's demo. ;)

I wonder what went wrong.

Yeah
where's that Metroid game :).

You never know when you're on Kojima time.

All kidding aside, when we have a set date, we'll release a set date. It's currently be worked on around the clock (from how exhausted those KojiPro guys are when we see them), and if you saw the 60fps trailer at E3, looks amazing so far.

EDIT: "If anything happens to my pals on Callisto... you'll pay."

In practice I've found it just means there's less clutter in your room.
It's fine if you like to collect physical stuff, but personally I see that as a separate hobby.

But again that's coming from a PC gamer's perspective. I wouldn't go digital only on console either.
