Ronaldo was born in the same town my Mom was born in. He's been my favorite player for years as a result. I don't really have much against Messi but I'd take Ronaldo over him any day of the week.

This was a close call 4 years ago but Messi is on his way to GOAT status.

While I agree that Messi is so far the better player, Ronaldo is on a much better form lately. Messi does not deserve to win a best player award this year, period.

Seriously, if you had that much money and respect why not do something for the better instead of just fancy cars and tax evasion? I know Ronaldo still has a shitload of money, but not enough players are generous like he is.
Ehh, that's clearly up for debate. I want to see Messi play for a club team other than Barca before I start throwing around GOAT status. With at least a good chunk of Team Spain playing on that squad, you could play a polished turd in the striker position, and have it in the short list of greatest players.

It's all hyperbole. Messi can score a tap-in and the media will invent reasons for it to be "magnificent", "sensational".
He is a great player, definitely the best dribbler of the ball, but it does not mean no one else can't have a better year; many people agree Ronaldo has been better. Ballon d'Or is soon (Messi will probably win, Blatter decided to open his mouth too much)

Once you begin to understand just how hard Cristiano Ronaldo works even at this point in his career, how driven he is everyday at training. It's just awe inspiring.
With Messi I just feel it comes naturally for him - his movement is simplistic and based on keeping the ball glued to his feet and getting incredible shots off with minimal space. Basically the ideal method of play for any attacking player.
With Ronaldo, it's like he forced himself to be this good when he wasn't meant to be. Looking at the Ronaldo of 2006 compared to now - it's fucking mind blowing how far he's come. Movement, control, technique - everything keeps improving.

Amazing player; beast of a forward. And a ridiculous physical specimen.
I don't like to criticise him because he's so good, but he has clear deficiencies compared to Messi. As a pure counter-attacking forward he's the best on the planet, but in a broader context he has a fair few limitations.
It's possible I'm biased because I appreciate the technical aspects of football more than the others, though.

Ronaldo and Messi are both great! they are both different genetic freaks!
Ronaldo has THE perfect futbol player body! Strong, tall, fast and smart. Just right pretty much. Messi lacks in height but he makes up for it in speed and smarts(strength I'd say he is pretty decent just not as good as Ronaldo). Having said that I think in 2-3 years Messi will drop off quite a bit while Ronaldo because of his build will still be the top if not at least included in the top player in the world conversation.
we should be just thankful we get to see these 2 go at it 2-5 times a year in la liga (fuck the premier league! boring ass cross the ball from left to right BS english style soccer! Probably why they stink at any form of national level competition!).

Premier League is much more engaging to watch than any Spanish match that isn't RM-Barcelona...
Not that being engaging for the viewer will win you everything. Look at the 2006 WC for one.
