So Target shipped someone an Xbox One already? [Update: console-banned until launch]

lol you guys are more angry about the situation than he is. like your fanboy dreams have come true.

yeah great press when sony bans him until launch day too.

They would just say you get a free console at launch. They don't have to give him one immediately.

From the looks of things, even though I consider the ban to be in the realm of quasi-reasonable(not nice, but not unfair if it's released on the 22nd), this is going to be another PR shitstorm for MS. And from what I understand he can still play offline. Really don't see what the outcry is about, but w/e.

The only thing I disagree with is that they should at least given him a warning of "stop or you are banned". That way they could have walked away from this at least looking fair.

If the XBox Live service isn't ready for public consumption yet, what's the problem here? I personally don't see one until Nov 22 rolls around and the dude is still banned. Then let loose the angry mob with their pitchforks...

And for Justice! It is seriously dumb what MS has done. I hope it's just until the 22nd.

Yeah, it's absolutely fucked up and he doesn't deserve it. I really hope it gets worked out. I'm talking about these bizarre posts about free PS4s when it has nothing to do with Sony.

If it's till the 22nd okay, fine whatever.

If it's a permanent console bann, Microsoft can eat all the dicks in the world.

Not it's really not fine either way. He got the console legit from Targets fuck up. If anything Microsoft could have contacted him and worked out a deal.

This ban was totally out of line but it's Microsoft so I'm not surprised.

Not surprised seeing as microsoft's position on any negative facet of their xbone "experience" and "content" is that it's all the customers fault.

Exactly. I'll join the mob if the ban isn't lifted at launch.

I hope Mark Cerny goes to this guy's house and kisses him on the forehead, it would be a feel-good news story for Sony.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
Papercuts said that he's working on compiling everything. Hopefully he'll make a new thread for it as well cause it's about time to abandon this thread to the depths.

Yeah... GAF's clean up crew seems to be rolling in. "Pre-order canceled... if I had one... LOL" will be the popular post format from here on out.

Only because people aren't looking at the logic an reasoning on why a ban is issued in this instance, its a perfectly fine response if it is lifted on launch day. Which needs to be clarified, but isn't a big deal for the broader gaming community.

What should be more damaging is their heavy handed approach to Xbox One footage at this time, this isn't the first instance. Though this is the first time it is a purchased product.

Actually no there is no logic in it at all, If a retailer screws up and sends the product ahead of time, the customer is free of all responsibility. Money has been taken the customer is within his rights to do whatever the hell he wants to do with the product.

That unfortunately is not the case in the Gaming world, I mean for Christ sake our Industry is the most strictest and punishing industry there is.

The worst thing out of all this is he was giving positive PR to Microsoft and Microsoft just outright banned him, whether that is until launch or not, is inexcusable.(I'm convinced it is only until launch)

Better approach would of been:
A.)Contact him and explain why he must keep everything under-wraps until Launch day.
B.)Contact him, say why they have to ban him and offer a month of Xbox Live/Free Game as an apology.
C.)Let it play out and reap the benefits of good PR.

Surprised they did, yes it is informational but it is only going to stir the pot and devalue the information leaked and why a ban would of happened in the first place.

I was one that promoted the idea of putting it in the title. I'm sorry but I think something like this SHOULD be noticed so that MS takes shit for it. No reason to ban someone if the store breaks street date. Back when I worked at EB, if we broke street date we were issued a hefty fine, that's the price one pays for breaking street date, not ban the consumer.

Is there an assumption that a service will be available 14 days before it is supposed to be released after being mistakenly sold by a retailer?

I wonder if Apple would have disabled an iTunes account if an iPad Air was sent to a user before street date? Highly unlikely.

Damn, dick move but not unexpected. Hopefully they unban him after their console wide embargo ends. Not for the 22nd, but whenever the embargo ends, because people should still be able to get things early if it was on a purely legitimate coincidence.

If they don't unban him... Holy shit there's not enough mud that can slung.

I'm laughing so hard that they copyright claimed his fucking unboxing video of all things as well.

Microsoft your decisions never fail to amaze me.

Holy crap really?

Too much MS stuff to follow today, trying to catch up with this but it's just nuts.

Is there any possibility for him having the ban lifted?

I really do not know how they can justify this ban .....

I really hope that sooner or later a regulator / judge / consumer association take a good look at this practise of unilateral bans that either prevent you to access your content or alter the capabilities of the console you have bought.

So your against a more clearer explanation like;
I think the title should say Xbox One taken offline. He can still play offline.

?

Name a tech giant and they would be doing this sort of stuff, its part of the industry and isn't very consumer orientated, but theirs logic in behind why they would want to protect their product before launch even if it is good PR.

This. Banning outright without warning is a dick move. I guess that's fitting coming from MS....
