Wings: Remastered Edition Kickstarter - By Cinemaware, 85k goal

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/850516062/wings-remastered-edition

Cinemaware, or at least the guys holding the company name now, have relaunched their kickstarter for a HD/Remastered version of Wings.

Wings, for those who don't know about it, is an old Amiga classic. A flight action game based on the action sequences of and old silent film, with a story told in similiar style with extracts from a pilots diary.

It was one of my favorite games for the Amiga, so I hope they succeed this time :).

A 5 level prototype demo is available to download on the project page.

Finally, the Steven Weber simulator I have been asking for!

I played the hell out of Wings, I think I will back this.

Damn, there are so many Cinemaware games I'd love to see brought back as PC/next-gen titles. Rocket Ranger and It Came From the Desert are among my Amiga faves.

That amount sounds awfully low, but I will concede I'm not clear on what the full scope of the original Wings was; it's possible it's sufficient.

Edit: Then again, it sounds like the core engine is already done. Hmmm. What sort of extra elements cropped up in later missions which would need further development?

Wow... I enjoyed that game on my Amiga 500. The bombing sequences in 2D, the red circus portion and, most of all, the daily chronicles that were so sad... The game was a bit repetitive but these chronicles kept me playing the game until the end. Definitely one of my personal Amiga gems (with Black crypt, Pinball Fantasies, Armour Geddon, etc).

They changed the scope from the previous kickstarter, where the goal was to add more content to the campaigns. Now the basic goal is "only" a remake without any fuzz. And since the game doesn't rely on any animated cutscenes or speech it seems doable.

20% funded now.

Excellent! Just came on here to make sure someone was talking about the Wings Kickstarter campaign!

Yeah we've managed 20% in the first 24 hours, but there's a long way to go, so please support if you can and also tell any retro and Cinemaware fans about it!

We also helped Cinemaware re-release Rocket Ranger on Android last week (iOS version due next week), and if we're successful in getting Wings going you should see follow up releases of It Came From The Desert, King of Chicago, Defender of the Crown, Lords of the Rising Sun etc as emulated releases and ultimately remastered editions.

Thanks for your support!

40% now. It's going slow since pretty much no gaming site has written about it, but they have three weeks for the remaining 60%.

It's a shame that it's being ignored by the press. I know there are plenty of nostalgia projects already, but the developers are really working for this project. Prototype available from the start, further prototype development in progress, and plenty of updates.

But then, it might be a bit tricky get a hang of what Wings really is, since the gameplay is pretty basic of course.

This isn't 'It Came From The Desert'! Wings was cool but hardly their best game.

EDIT: oh, so this could lead to other Cinemaware games being produced? I may have to dust off the wallet :)

Not a fan of the art, maybe if I was a teen it wouldn't bother me so much but I still feel the old Amiga game still has great, proper, art. Work in progress or not, it doesn't look promising, Wings deserved better. Wait on the comments someone mentions about porting the original Amiga game as well, that I would like to support.

The original Amiga game doesn't not look good in 3D anymore, hasn't for a long time. We need an update of it.

It got a boost recently, so it's up to $73k of the $85k goal, with 11 days left. It looks like it's gonna make it, but they're not gonna reach that many stretch goals.

Why is the OUYA version a separate stretch goal? It's just the Android version with controller support and a manifest file for the store. Or am I mistaken?

I was hyped for a DVD release of the old Discovery Channel Wings series. :(

Almost the day i finally got cable they cancelled that excellent show, i was so pissed. I don’t even see the dvds for most of the series being sold, you can’t even find it online at “blockbuster”.

Barely two days left of the kickstarter. Don't think I've seen a kickstarter getting so ignored by the gaming sites like this, so well done to them for still reaching the goal.
