COD Ghosts Xbox One offline (2 weeks before launch) not possible without Live?

Probably just a pre-launch thing...

You think MS might have given him the memo though rather than risk another panic, but oh well, here we go again.

Hmmm I wonder if they're currently trying to fix this issue.... Also I hope that it isn't activision who built this into to the next-gen versions, cause then ps4 would have it too. Then again, if acti did I wouldn't really care because I'm boycotting COD
Are we still doing this? Sony is not doing this.

It's because the day one patch isn't out yet right? Seriously people this isn't something to worry about until launch its clear MS doesn't want anyone doing anything yet so please chill damn.
Gotcha.

Day -14 patch does shit.
Day 1 patch makes all persistent online requirements vanish.

Good to know.

Im not one to defend the bone by any means but this doesnt seem like its on Microsoft's end.

This is IW making their game require online, not the MS DRM. If he can play other games offline then that proves it. Someone should ask on twitter.

I bet IW put that into the game bc of Microsoft's previous policies though...

Wouldn't be surprised if this was a result of the 180 and not everyone being fully ready for their XB1 games to be offline playable just yet. Will be kind of bullshit if it keeps happening post launch window however.

Guy just tweeted that he can't even access the system settings

Imagine if online authentication was deactivated at the OS level, but was still possible from game to game.

Ok, we must be missing some detail here. I cannot believe they'd let something like this happen for such a high profile game after all the crazy cock-ups and 180s soooo.... gonna wait for more details here.

Second sentence in the OP.
That was a different 'Day One' patch.
Clearly there will be many 'Day One' patches each one unique like a snowflake.
But the 'Day One' patch up on the 22nd won't make this a problem. Probably. Maybe.
Except for TitanFall which has no single-player component. Have you heard of TitanFall?

Maybe the DRM needs to be turned off on game by game basis. That'd be painful though and what if the publisher forgot to do it before sending the disc to press?

Right. There are so many variables, we may not really be able to know for sure until the system launches.

If this is true, isn't anyone concerned that MS can basically remotely brick your console? I mean, I understand banning his console from live, but if he really can't use his console for anything because of the ban, that's a little worrisome.

It was clarified 5 months ago. There is no online verification of offline games.
But is there online verification for the offline modes of online games?

Remember that 24 hour check in requirement that MS was talking about? 24 hours might have passed and now he can't.
That makes a lot of sense. Hopefuly 'Day One' patch #2 or #3 takes care of that.

This is his original tweets on it:

c

and later he says this:

c

He may just be confused? I think they essentially locked the whole console down remotely? Although I'm not sure how that's possible if he's offline, but yeah. I'm pretty sure he's just wording it poorly.

I mean MS came out and said that the patch isn't out yet. I have no doubts he downloaded "A patch" but it was probably an older iteration that doesn't include the offline play ability.
