PAL Charts - Week 45, 2013

After seeing these Wii U sales numbers of Ghosts it makes me wonder why Activision still bothers supporting the platform.

Wow @ Mario and Sonic. Was it not advertised? I know these games aren't huge out of the gate and usually have very good legs but this is incredibly bad for first week. Even going off how badly Wii U is doing it's horrendous.

Wow @ PS4 version of CoD>Wii U. Wii U version didn't even chart, yet the PS4 version outsold PS3 versions of ACIV/BF4 (2nd weeks). I think it's a good sign that PS4 pre-order numbers are pretty darn great.

This actually raises an imporant question. Borderlands 2 is published and ported by Sony. Why didn't Sony go after the Ghost port? Having a proper CoD on the Vita for holidays would have been huge for the platform.

It's taken them over a year to bring Borderlands 2 to Vita. Given how development for CoD often goes down to the wire it was likely impossible to get a Ghosts port out this year. However, they could've done some kind of compilation release of maps from the previous Modern Warfare games or something.

X1 + PS4 would have to launch with 700k hardware sales week 1 and 1:1 Ghost attach ratio just to match BLOPS2. Do you think this is even a remote possibility? Also, doesn't Ghost have an upgrade package to next gen in the UK or is that US only?

That's hardly a fair comparison. Not all people waiting for the nextgen version will be getting a new console day one. Especially since they will be supply constrained. A much better comparison would be total 2013 sales for CoD Ghosts vs 2012 sales of BO2. And even that gives BO2 a big advantage considering a huge chunk of Ghosts sales will come next year.

Both AC4, and BF4 are down nearly 60% from their predecessors. Considering that alone makes me think this drop is completely normal for a cross gen game releasing very shortly before next gen begins.

2 - Battlefield 4 PS3 - Electronic Arts
3 - Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Xbox 360 - Ubisoft

Also, Gamekult published French first week(s) sales for all the big titles/sequels released in the past weeks:

MCV, that sounds like a challenge

Grand Theft Auto V first week - 2.250.000
FIFA 14 first week - 836.000
Call of Duty: Ghosts first week - around 770.000
Battlefield 4 first week - 128.932
Pokémon X / Y - ?
Assassin's Creed IV first week - 132.800
Batman Arkham Origins first week - around 105.320

Then, Pokémon X / Y = GTAV - (FIFA 14 + COD + BF4 + ACIV + BAO)=
=2.250.000 - (836.000 + 770.000 + 128.932 + 132.800 + 105.320) =
=2.250.000 - 1.973.052 = 276.948

...That's just way too high, there's something wrong then.

Activision’s latest shooter Call of Duty: Ghosts has topped the GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40 for the second week in a row.

It was able to hold off the advances of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes despite a 76 per cent week-on-week sales drop. Warner’s title puts in an impressive performance, however, claiming the second largest week one for the LEGO series ever behind LEGO Indiana Jones: Original Adventures.

The next chart debutant comes in all the way down in 21st, however – that’ll be Ratchet & Clank Nexus.

2K Games’ Xcom: Enemy Within manages 25th in its first week. Its predecessor Xcom: Enemy Unknown debuted at No.7 when it arrived last year.

There are re-entries for Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (20th) and PES 2014 (33rd).

Mighty, MIGHTY interesting.
Unless there were special bundles with last year's Layton at selected retailers. Was that the case?

If Ghosts sold 770,000 units in its first week, then

Call of Duty: Ghosts second week (-76%) - 184,800

Weak for XCOM, certainly compared to the original but probably a bit better than expected for Ratchet. I wasn't even aware it's out and the past couple of titles have hurt the brand. It was a very low key release to boot.

How does that big CoD drop compare to previous second week CoDs?

Now we have all

Activision Blizzards’ ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (-76%) easily holds the No1 crown for a second week at the top of the All Formats chart. The title adds Xbox One to its list of available formats and it sells strongly despite consumers having to wait another week until the next gen console arrives. Despite assembling an all-star cast Warner Bros. Interactive have to settle for No2 as ‘Lego Marvel Superheroes’ makes its debut. However it does become the 2nd biggest week 1 release for a Lego title bettered only by ‘Lego Indiana Jones: Original Adventures’ all the way back in Week 23 2008. ‘FIFA 14’ (-7%) climbs a spot to No3 swapping places with ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ (-37%) which is down to No4. Last week’s No2 ‘Battlefield 4’ (-48%) drops to No5 while ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-11%) is down to No6. ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (+8%) sees a boost in sales but also drops down a place to No7. ‘Skylanders Swap Force’ (+11%) climbs two places to No8 helped by the early release of both Xbox One and PS4 version of the game ahead of the next gen launch. Nintendo’s ‘Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy’ (+33%) moves up to No10, up three places from its debut last week. The title along with ‘Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask’ which climbs to No20, both benefit from retailer bundling which contributes to 3DS XL hardware sales more than doubling last week’s total. Further down the chart there’s a debut for Sony and developer Insomniac’s ‘Ratchet & Clank Nexus’ at No21. Take2’s acclaimed tactical series Xcom is also back with ‘Xcom: Enemy Within’ landing at No25. The title expands on the universe of ‘Xcom: Enemy Unknown’ which debuted at No7 in Week 41 last year.

Based on that I'd probably peg COD XB1 at around 12K, just over a third of the PS4 number. EDIT: Oh used the wrong split.
