Good afternoon. I’m Yosuke Matsuda. I would like to explain the outline of the Company's financial results for the six-month period ended September 30 2013, as well as our future business strategy. The earnings Briefings will be used during the explanation.

For the six-month period ended September 30 2013, we recorded net sales of ¥61,664 million, operating income of ¥4,675 million, recurring income of ¥5,669 million and net income of ¥2,606 million. These results are identical to the revised financial forecast disclosed yesterday.

The breakdown of the content production account is split roughly 50-50 between Japan and overseas, but its nature is changing. We have been putting more efforts into the production of online game titles in Europe and North America, which has changed the composition of the content production account. I believe that WIP turnover will increase over time. Taking this factor into consideration, we are tightening controls over the level of WIP balance.

As I mentioned previously, our overseas studios are shifting their focus to include more online-based titles. While we are continuing our development of sellout-type flagship HD (high-definition) games for conventional game consoles, we will be transitioning to developing more online games as a major trend of our business.

Studios in Japan are continuing to work on developing flagship HD (high-definition) game titles for consoles such as "FINAL FANTASY XV" and "KINGDOM HEARTS III," which have already been announced at E3. On the other hand, these studios are also working on new content for smart devices. We will produce results from such efforts from this time forward.

Lastly, I would like to mention overseas business developments in the Asia region. Since there is an extremely strong affinity for content produced in Japan in areas such as China, South Korea and Southeast Asian countries, we are strongly supporting the rollout to these regions of games for smart devices that are well received in Japan. In addition, we are looking to carry out development in overseas locations.

More at the link above.

FF XV will never come.

Wanna get pissed off? There are no plans to release Kingdom Hearts HD Collection 2 or FFX HD Collection on PS4. C'mon SE :/.

hmm, I would attribute that to the cost they already spent to make it onto the PS3?
Honestly, X looks like they actually redid the whole game(from what I've seen) but yes, it seems stupid even as stupid as not saying if it'll come for Vita -.-

Doesn't bother me. Ports are nice and all, but real hype is KH3 and FFXV.

Both HD collections could be rendered in full HD or even HD+ (2500 X 1600). There is an opportunity to really make these the definitive versions. Instead they miss out on capitalizing on a huge opportunity. Sony needs to step in if need be.

So SquareEnix is becoming financially solvent by moving away from portable consoles/HD Consoles and betting the farm on iOS.

Damn it!!

Funny how they might be saved by their biggest failure.

Whatever else you want to say about FF14:ARR, and I'm definitely on board with calling it "WoW with prettier outfits and less content", props to Naoki Yoshida for pulling off the impossible.

Very interested in seeing how that goes this gen. I've said in the past that existing mindshare lead in SEA will be what pulls Japanese development out of the doldrums; the upcoming FF14 launch plus mobile content will be a solid test of that.

This implies you know about how the game is built, how the assets are actually made...

But I do agree, I hope Sony steps in. This is a cornerstone in the Playstation saga, while I do not believe it to be the "best" PS "branded" games out there many people associate these games with the Sony brand. They can't let the momentum fall, if they truly wish for a PS1/2 era with a plethora of games they must step in, not just for Indies(which I love) but for "AAA" publishers as well.

I'm so curious to see what happens with SE after the release of FF and KH. What kind of games will be announced after that, I wonder. :x

no, they are clawing back a fraction of their investment in FF14...with FF14

it's a shitty catch 22

if FF14 failed again they'd just complain about being broke and go mobile/iOS with everything

they make money on FF14, everything is MMOs from here on out.

Some iPhone "cheap" games few care about, more KH, FF or DQ since that's the only viable IP SE (jap) have now.

I'm more interested if SE will greenlight Bravely Default 2...

They won't. They're just HD remasters...

Just buy a ps3.
This attitude is precisely the problem with gamers today. Company's have taken to twitter, message boards, and are going meta on a daily basis to try and make sensible decisions for future products.

I own one, but I would rather take the initiative to let Square Enix know what I want. Not releasing the collections on the PS4 is just one of the many problems that illustrates just how out of touch they are.

All I needed to hear.

Well they were save by FF in the first place of course.

HD remasters of some Iconic games that would surely net them a pretty penny.

That feedback thing, Project Flare?, is it live yet?

Wouldn't this be incredibly difficult though? The game's source was built for the PS2. The reason it's taking so long to bring to PS3 is because they have to bring it from one esoteric architecture to another and compared to all other HD remasters so far it's a far, far bigger game. I imagine it would be a similar hurdle to get it from PS3 to PS4.

If the game had also been made for PC (like 7-9) then it would be out by now and I'm sure it would be coming to PS4 as well.

They are. To me anyways...
The Phoenix Down will arrive in the form of a Fantasy based on Reality.

Start buying Drakengard 3 and Bravely Default to show some support for their other IP's then.

I will buy Bravely Default which we are getting because Nintendo is publishing it - yes.

It's hilarious how none of Square-Enix Europe's games in the last few years have had a particularly strong online-component and it's still where they want to take the company going forward. Seriously, you can't make this shit up.

.....I'm never getting a new Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre, am I?

I'll even settle for a Vita port. Square Enix pls.

Well, they seem to be doing OK at least.

As someone who doesn't give a shit about the Japanese side of SE, just call me when they make/announce a FF XII-like game again instead of whatever they are doing now.

I want the iOS version of FFT on the Vita so bad. I know it's a port, of a port, of a port but damn, I would still love it.

The PS3 versions will be the definitive ones, these games don't have the polygon count to really benefit from such resolutions, the gain would not be that great from full HD. And PS3 to PS4 would be almost starting from scratch due to the all the hardware differences.

What I don't understand is why they don't release the KH HD collection on the 360 since they announced KH 3 on the xbox one. I mean this is the end of the gen, they know how to develop for the 360.

FF XV will never come.

Waiting for the one
The day that never comes
When you stand up and feel the warmth
But the sunshine never comes

why would I buy Drakengard when I want more games like (most) pre-XIII Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Valkyrie Profile, Secret of Mana etc.

because it's going to be amazing and one of the few games that won't try to be online or mobile.

If it doesn't sell well, then why should SE even try?

Because from a broader perspective at least it's not an online or a mobile game.

Ok, why would I buy a game I have no interest in? So Square can maybe decide to throw me some scraps that loosely resemble what I actually want from the company and what they're still capable of creating?

I have already pre-ordered the Bravely Default CE like the tool I am but I don't see how buying Drakengard 3 would further my interests.

Financially SE isn't dead. But to me and many others based on the focus of online gaming and of course the output of mobile titles they may as well be. I personally only have interest in Bravely Default. A game from October 2012.

And Versus 13 should still be released on ps3.

SE has already made the most sensible decision, and that is to support the smartphone platform, and not focus heavily on the schizophrenic buying habits of westerners, but focus on what they know, the Japanese market. The home console product category is in decline in Japan, MS and Sony both see this and won't be releasing their systems till later. Why should SE get behind a platform that treats the Japanese as second class, when their games are primarily targeted to the Japanese market?

Almost every third party developers are making mobile games now.

Mind blowing I know.

There's a difference between most western publishers who are treating it as a shovelware dump off platform so they can make a quick buck to fund their legitimate games and Square Enix who seems to be taking the platform seriously at the expense of their console/PC development.
