Media Create Sales: Week 46, 2013 (Nov 11 - Nov 17)

I was actually expecting a larger bump for handheld Vita sales with God Eater 2 releasing .

True..people just seem to be looking at the combined Vita and Vita tv figures..

...and that's a rather smoke and mirrors number( assuming it's primarily selling to current Vita handheld owners ...it probably hasn't expanded the userbase much at all).

46k for the Vita by itself is pretty low considering GE2 is the biggest release Vita has this holiday...and it still didn't overtake the 3DS (although I'm sure it's still higher than the Wii U + Mario 3D world will manage).

So moving on from God Eater 2, what's the next >200k title for Vita?
Maaaaaaaaaybe FF X/X-2 HD (if we combined them). If they end up doing like Person 4 Golden, which they might do given the amount of work that went into it, that it's a popular game for the first time on a portable, has extra stuff thrown in (the 30 minute voice drama thing). If not that then SS Delta or J-Stars Victory vs.

Vita TV opening is a bit low but it's nice to see Vita "family" at the top. As expected GE performkng extremely well too.

WE still dropping but at least next year is world cup year. It's starting to get worrying and I don't think it's just generation fatigue.

Band brothers is disappointing to be honest, a bit lower than I expected.

Good numbers for 3ds hardware also, and wii u dropping just a bit like I expected last week.

BTW, do we know the % of sold Vita TVs? That's important to see if these number were within the expectation of Sony or not.

FFX/X-2 HD and J-Stars are not Vita exclusives. They're also on PS3, which is a much stronger platform for stuff like that. So it's going to eat into the Vita sales significantly.

So moving on from God Eater 2, what's the next >200k title for Vita?

Off the top of my head, the biggest upcoming Vita titles are:

-FFX HD
-Freedom Wars
-Soul Sacrifice Delta
-Project Diva F 2
-Phantasy Star Nova

Of those, I feel the only "guaranteed" one is Phantasy Star Nova, especially since a lot of them are multiplatform.

Yeah, Freedom Wars is a good candidate. It will need aggressive marketing though, otherwise it will fall into the same purgatory space as SS.

At least its aesthetics shouldn't work against it. I thought that really solidified SS as niche status, and I don't think Delta will do much better, if at all.

SS did really well for an SCEJ new IP. It's around 200k LTD now excluding the double pack. Sony finally made a good push with regards advertising SS.

For Freedom Wars they have a chance to repeat the success. The developers are proven to be good in this genre, the art style is better for the mass audience than SS. It has been in the famitsu top wanted without having any gameplay trailer yet so that's kind of a success already. We'll see if Sony delivers this weekend.

Woah, congrats Vita! Wonder how much of those are Vita Tv? God Eater sold really really well, sure it's no Monster Hunter but it's sales are extremely good in their own right. Also with nothing new releasing on Wii U, I honestly expected a much bigger drop, like below 10k, so I'm rather surprised by that. Really interested to see if 3D World will have any sort of impact next week.

I don't think Sony is disappointed with SS though. The thing is, the Vita userbase is limited, and launching new IPs is hard. With SS Delta, we'll get to see whether they managed to grow the fanbase through good word of mouth.

VitaTV numbers are interesting considering PS4 has yet to launch and GE2 doesn't get any added functionality with VitaTV... in fact, it's less functional since it's GE2's main selling point (AD HOC remote multi-player) is near useless since the unit is married to a stay-at-home TV.

Between the Vita TV and the God Eater 2 release Vita has taken the spot as the truly and only hardware king in Japan.
If this trend continues I think that Sony can make a huge comeback in the portable market, maybe still not surpassing Nintendo this generation, but setting the market to do it easily in the next.

Meanwhile, WiiU's decline continues and we're at a holiday period, NSM3DW hasn't even charted in the top 20, and for the first time I fear that the console can't turn it around to at least some decent levels.

As a fan of Nintendo I must admit that Sony has taken the crown both in the home and in the portable market, at least in Japan, and I seriously fear that 3DS could end with the same third party support than WiiU.

Sarcasm/Parody? It's hard to tell these days.

So upcoming potential mio. sellers for the 3DS are PvD, DQM2R and tloz albtw (not sure with the last one), am i right?

Freedom War is too similar to GE2, can it do really well? When will it released actually?

That is surely an advantage.

At least its aesthetics shouldn't work against it. I thought that really solidified SS as niche status, and I don't think Delta will do much better, if at all.

Good points. SS was too "mature" I guess.

Yes, SSD sales will be interesting, if it launches >200k then I think Sony will have established it as a respectable franchise and SS2 will receive a good amount of hype.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
How did the God Eater games perform first week compared to GE2?

With the up & downs of series that started on DS on 3DS, I'm interested to see just how well (or poorly) Fossil Fighters will do, esp. with its tweaked art-style and manga in Corocoro from next month.

I don't think that will be a problem at all.

That might be true. It is just me that fear too much about Sony over-saturating the market with similar genre. If each game have very distinct flavor like SS and Toukiden, it is much better since people can know that they are different from the get go.

But still, is it better to developed that kind of game from the start rather than trying to turned a totally different game into one
(Patapon 3 I'm looking at you)

The game and situation are very different, but for what it's worth, Jump Superstars' first week was over 200K on a portable. Two of the Gundam Vs. Gundam games had first weeks above 200K on PSP as well, I've heard that the gameplay's like that.

What a great meltdown. Yesterday was Spieler Eins, today we have freezamite. What will tomorrow bring?

EDIT:
freezamite definitely trolled some of you guys hard.

For Vita standards this week has some nice numbers, but that doesn't mean that such completely insane hyperbole makes any lick of sense.

Whoever came up with the idea for PSVTV deserves a medal.

Honestly? It sold about 42.000. Not that much.

Solid sales for the "normal" Vita with the release of God Eater 2. But not as much as expected.

3DS has good sales, as always.

Wii U on third place is exceptional, perhaps the gamers in Japan are preparing for Mario World.

Oh My! It's rare to see Vita above 3DS. Great week for Vita. Still a good hold even if half of those numbers are for VitaTv.
God Eater 2 sold better than I thought it would.

Surprised.

So is Vita TV going to be lumped in with Vita or is it going to be a stand alone since it functions more like a console than handheld?

Jump Superstars is a DS exclusive. The Gundam Vs games on the PSP which sold well were also exclusives with no console Vs titles released around that time. The first Gundam Vs game on the PSP which was based on a PS2 version sold a little over 100k LTD compared to 400k+ LTD for the PS2 one.

That's my point really. If there were no console versions of these games, I think there would be a substantial boost, but given a choice between Vita or PS3, the Vita sales will be a minority.

Lol This must be a joke post. Nobody is saying Vita is now going to crush the 3DS, but this downplaying of a great week is getting ridiculous now.

It's shows them separately in the OP. Vita TV sold 42K whole Vita sold 46K. Personally I thought God Eater 2 would've pushed more handheld units. I'm not sure how to feel about it but regardless it's a good week.

anybody said that Vita sales actually disappointing because of the hardware split mustn't remembered that GE2 heavily marketed with VitaTV.
