From next Jan tracker will include DL numbers as well, so as I heard.
Now I'm not sure that applies for Dengeki or Famitsu.

God Eater doing that well should tell Capcom that Monster Hunter ( main series ) would both sell systems and sell plenty of units to bring back their investment.

Come on Sony, you know what to do.

Then get on Square-Enix to get Dragon Quest onto the Vita/PS4. And that will be the end of any sort of conversation about a failing PS4/Vita in Japan.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Only ports of existing titles which has been released before on more popular systems.

You think Capcom doesn't know that MH would sell Vita systems? How stupid do you think these publishers are? xD

Are you saying it is sabotage then? Capcom is sticking it to Sony? Are they having a lovers quarrel?

Their is more money to be made on 3DS, people who will wanna play the game will own a 3DS if that's changes in the future they will revise their strategy. Once Vita has a Userbase of 5-6 million in Japan Capcom might be willing to throw in more substantial support.

As long as main MH titles can sell +3 million on a system Capcom won't risk drastic platform changes. Same reason why SE stuck with the DS for DQ, of course a DQ PSP title would have sold well... But why confusing the fantasy when the sales are satisfying and der costs can be held low.

No, Capcom isn't going to spend the money to make another version. Why do you not think every game is on every platform? Many games would sell many platforms but developers make choices.

Crap . i waited till i got home to answer Takao's post and then he got himself banned. =(

Oh well . ill answer anyway:

It's naive to think that Persona 3 won't be receiving another re-release. There's a series of theatrical anime films coming out, and I doubt Atlus won't jump on that publicity. It's especially obvious as there is no definitive version of Persona 3. While I do agree that another release of that game is a bit much, the fanbase would probably eat it up. The team doing that likely wouldn't step on original productions like Persona Q as that seems like it's a rebranded Etrian Odyssey game.
.

What do you mean by "definitive version " ?

If anything: i find the old PS2 version of P3: FES to be the definitive version just as i would call P4 golden to be the Definitive version of that particular game .

It came with new personas
one new social link
and unlike P3P it l had the overworld and the anime scenes .
A full new part of the game called The answer
Persona fusion with items
etc..

I believe if ATLUS Wants to make another version of this game (The definitive version as you mentioned ) that their options are either:

Clean up the the graphics a little bit and rerelease the game as a HD remake .

or

Add another chapter featuring (spoilers for P3)
Elizabeth in her quest to try to save the Main character of the game after he sacrificed himself to become the great seal to stop Nyx.

The first one seems likely but should we call it a definitive version just because it runs on a higher resolution ?

The second option would indeed make it the definitive version but is much less likely to happen .

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Amazon.co.jp page for New Love Plus+ shows three 3DS XL bundles with the game. It sounds like what Konami did with New Love Plus.

Capcom are just cheap. They will reuse assets as long as its possible.

its not that they are cheap, more like they don't have a lot of money left to burn.

Really to put into perspective Capcom could be gone by the end of next generation (2019~2020) if they don't improve their financials.

At its current rate, the Vita will reach 6 million install base by the end of its life cycle. Capcom made the right choice putting MH4 on the 3DS.

Capcom has always reused assets whenever they could, that's why Ultra SF4 new characters are all reused from SFXT. Or you can look at how long the Morrigan sprite was used for over a decade, to the point of absurdity in Capcom vs SNK 2.

Looking through Amazon charts, I recently noticed that, for the first time, the 3DS SKU of World Soccer Winning Eleven is outselling the PSP one. Yeah, it's basically at the bottom of the charts (94th), and the difference with PSP SKU isn't so big (it's 149th currently), but IIRC this never happened in the last years, right?

One Piece: Unlimited World R is low, but there's a reason: not sold directly by Amazon, and with a much lower discount as usual, trending between 11% to 17% (currently, 15%). Maybe, it's doing a little more than moderately well, after all?

Where did you hear that?

Famitsu does monthly rankings for download stores in their magazines for over a year, but the results are shown in points, not actual sales (I don't know how they estimate the sales or what the points mean). Past history: Way back when (before 1996) the Famitsu top 30 was also shown with points instead of actual sales.

It's not that Capcom is "cheap" for the sake of it; it's that it's highly unlikely that switching to higher-quality assets would increase franchise sales at all, let alone enough to justify the considerable expense of creating said assets.

oh, you were joking? that's hilarious
It was after the initial reveal of 3D World, where a few compared it to an uprezzed 3DS game. That thread was a hilarious read after the recent, and much better organised second preview. :lol

Still, here's hoping for a decent opening of sales. But not expecting much, to be honest.

I tend too agree .

Look for example at Activision.
They are more then capable to build a new engine and use higher quality assets in their Call of duty series and could do so right now but then they look at How well each iteration sells despite those issues and come to the conclusion of "why bother ? It's Not worth spending anything more then necessary and it means more revenue for us .µ

Same goes for Capcom and everyone else.

I know Sites like Gaf hate that stance but honestly . if i was a Executive at Capcom or Activision and looked at those numbers i would probably do the exact same thing .

I don't see why people think Capcom went with 3DS to reuse assets.

They would still reuse all of those assets on Vita and hardly anyone would give a shit. Vita aren't so graphically impressive that spruced up Tri models would look terrible. Hell the models look quite good on the Wii U even. The environments would be where you would see a major difference but they have to be built from scratch anyway.

All right, since Japan started announcing games again, I'm bringing back the game announcement highlights, but doing it in a new way.

Instead of just listing the games, I'm going to pick industry topics that relate to said games to discuss in brief along with a description of the game.

The topic is the start, and the game is (parenthetical).

Take a series and/or team, apply a more popular brand (Persona Q and Noire Gekishin Black Heart)

Persona Q appears to be the Etrian Odyssey team making an Etrian Odyssey-esque game, but with notably higher production values, some gameplay systems out of Persona, and using the Persona brand.

This tactic has been popular since at least the PS1 era, though I feel it may be somewhat slowing down. A very notable example is the Quest team moving from Tactics Ogre to Final Fantasy Tactics, which applies both the team transition and the series transition, as Tactics Ogre largely did not continue past that point while we continued to receive Final Fantasy Tactics games. For more recent examples, Pokemon Conquest took the formula of Nobunaga's Ambition and applied the Pokemon branding, while Koei has teamed up (often with Namco) to do Musou (Dynasty Warriors-like games) + Popular Brand (Gundam, First of the North Star, One Piece) titles to great success.

The games I listed above are mostly successes, and I feel an important part of this is that the series and/or team that was being applied to the more popular brand had the following important traits:

1.) The team making the game worked in a genre that was their strength. Final Fantasy Tactics is a strategy RPG, which is a genre the Quest team could actually make a great game in, thus resulting in a quality product. Had they been tasked with making a Tomb Raider clone instead, things probably would have went quite poorly.
2.) They team respected the brand they were working with, so fans of the brand actually had a connection to the spin-off game they could relate to, and thus might actually be enticed to pick up the game even if they never played other products by the development team.
3.) For brands that were also highly successful video game series already (Final Fantasy, Pokemon), there were still mainline games being made, so fans of that series felt they were getting this game *in addition* to more mainline games as opposed to *instead* of more mainline games. For titles that totally failed this test, see games like Syndicate.
4.) The actual production values/effort applied on the spin-off were at least as high if not higher than games that the development team worked on previously. This helps ensure that fans of the previous games the developer made don't feel like they're getting a crappy game with a popular brand applied to make up for its shortcomings, and are instead still getting a very high quality game from the team they like.

Another, more destructive form of this is simply taking a team that would be making a different series and putting them on a whatever your most popular brand is. For example, most of what made up the Silent Hill team got absorbed into the Metal Gear Solid 4 team, and then lower profile devs were handed the Silent Hill franchise. This ultimately resulted in the destruction of the Silent Hill brand. However, as the number of non-mobile games that Japanese publishers make at any given time has went down vastly, a lot of smaller teams have ended up getting absorbed into teams surrounding a company's biggest properties in order to support growing production demands. This has left many series either dead or decaying.

With Persona Q, since it seems to follow most if not all of the above rules, I feel it has a good chance at success. I suspect it will attract the vast majority of the Etrian Odyssey audience, and my primary question would be how many Persona fans it can attract who either haven't tried or don't like Etrian Odyssey.

Noire Gekishin Black Heart I mention in this same section as it's an SRPG by Sting (this is one of their best known strengths) applied to... the Neptunia brand. We have no other details yet, but um, uh... um... I guess it could be good despite the brand?

I have a couple more to do, but I find super long posts can be overwhelming so I'll stop for now.

From the excerpt of Dengeki and Famitsu for this week. The guy was just dumping information for both mags and that's why I'm not sure he was talking about Famitsu or Dengeki.
(My guess is both would do that from January, if this is true).

Had no idea Silent Hill devs were absorbed into the MGS4 team.

Ummm.....why? I don't get it, Nintendo.
I don't get it.

It looks like they're doing close to what they had going on the 3DS. Let their globally appealing titles hit both territories but focus on one territory first and then the other after. They focused on Japan first with the 3DS and then worried about the West. Now it looks like they're focusing on the West with the Wii U. At least that's what their software release schedule is saying. Once a few really Japanese-centered titles start hitting, I'd start to worry if others don't follow.

Thanks for the reply!

Managed to find the posts. He also posted some **supposedly** download sales already:

FFXIVARR: 22k
Ragnarok Odyssey (Ace?): 6.5k
Killzone Mercenary: 6.4k
JoJo ASB: 4k
Sen no Kiseki (Vita): 4k

From 9/30 to 10/27

The inclusion of 3DS games makes it more likely to be Famitsu, but we'll know for sure what this is about in a couple of days when both magazines are widely available.
