Each month, the iOS GAF community hosts a thread for new game releases, rumors and discussion that define the fast-moving world of iOS gaming.
The OP will contain games that released both towards the end of the previous month and games that have released during the current month -- all games which have been highlighted by the GAF community in one way or another. This way you can keep tabs on the best games and at the same time curate an excellent resource to look back on to find games you may have missed.
Also keep an eye out for the ‘GAF iOS Challenges’; events where GAF battle it out on the Game Center leaderboards of a chosen game for both fame and fortune (prizes donated by members of our community).

REALLY impressed with Collosatron, although I felt like I had to buy the intro deal for £2.99 to make any progress, that or grind for weeks.
Great concept though.
Pretty cool game for the price. I like how you can mix up the colours to either make stronger parts or make completely new colours/parts. Fun and quite addictive. Seems to be a fair bit of upgrades to unlock/collect.
[More in the original post]The gameplay is very frantic. It's nothing but nonstop mayhem and weapon fire and explosions. Actually I think that the fact that you don't control the snake helps to streamline and enhance the gameplay. By removing that factor, it allows you to focus on the core puzzle-like mechanic.
Game can be challenging. You can be easily overwhelmed and if you're not actively upgrading your weapons, paying attention to which ones are going to be destroyed, you'll be destroyed quickly, especially during the boss fights. Also the whole nightly news aesthetic is really cool and adds some nice humor and style to the game.
I'll have to play more to better judge the currency situation, but overall I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I'm enjoying Colossatron.
Edit: Here's a better way of thinking about the game. It's not Match-3, but a tower defense game with Match-3 elements. A tower defense game where your towers are mobile and you need to upgrade your towers in real time and position them in the best places to deal with the waves of incoming enemies. Like in TD, some weapon types are better against certain enemies and you want to pair up certain weapons and choose when it's best to upgrade them.

I am enjoying what I've played of Republique so far. Good controls that use smart decisions with your character's AI so that you don't have to overly micromanage a touch screen, good production values, lots of collectibles (though I wouldn't have been able to put in enough kickstarter money to get myself in the game, it's still a cool touch) and I like the concept used to control the game world (and how it uses an upgrade system). Really nice job.
Finally got around to start playing republique.
It does live up to their ambitions so far. Good stuff.

IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED SEASON ONE YET DO NOT WATCH THE SEASON TWO TRAILER

A special guest star appearance by the often elusive Sword & Poker 2 (S&P 1 is available as well but this is the better game). One of the best iOS game cards-mashup-with-other-genre games and it's from 2010! If you like Fairway Solitaire and it's solitaire-golf mashup you'll probably like this one too. It's not updated in retina resolution but you'll find nothing but praise for this one on GAF, get it while it's available, it probably won't be for long!
Everyone buy these! Still on my top5 after all this time, I believe it was my first paid iOS game![]()

Been playing The Room Two for a while now, finished 4-5 chapters. I loved the first game, and this is more Room. Looks the same, sounds the same, plays pretty much the same.
One notable difference from the first game though, is that you move around in a room between different objects this time, instead of being locked to one table. Makes it more complex and occasionally a bit harder, in a way that left me somewhat frustrated at times, because they're spreading information to more random places in the room, seemingly just because they can. But really just a nitpick, because the game hasn't been very hard so far.
On the other hand, I really like how they've tried to expand the concept by including more real-life objects into puzzles instead of just plain boxes (although the puzzles involving actual objects have been easier in general IMO, fewer points of interaction so they are easier to figure out). I also appreciate how they've created more distinct themes for all the different rooms, and they really take the spooky atmosphere to new heights in some of the rooms.
Anyway, I like the game a lot. A must-buy if you liked the first one IMO.
But I'm still wondering, is there an actual story going on? I'd like to think there is, but the more notes I read the less coherent it seems. Or maybe I'm just bad at tying clues together. I hope they give me more than just another door at the end at least.![]()

I did [purchase it]. Never played it before, so I'm not sure how different the map is, but basically once you tap on the map you get a fullscreen view of the area you are in, then you can pinch to zoom out further and see the entire world. When you first zoom out, the edges of the world first look blurry, then they quickly render up to the full res ala google maps.
I'm playing on the iPad Air, and the game looks pretty good. The cars have high-end reflection shaders that I don't believe were part of the original game. Draw distance is pretty far, and framerate is high for the most part. There are very brief slowdowns every now and then.
The controls are improved over the previous GTA ports, and there are many control options to choose from in terms of targeting, driving, etc. Plus you can customize the buttons however you like (size/location.)
I'm not really into the whole 'gangsta' theme the game has going. I much prefer the Vice City world, but this is still definitely a must buy for any GTA fan.

Finally got to play some of this. I'm really impressed. Game plays smoothly on my iPhone 4 and controls are responsive. There's a ton of depth and replayability in the customization and ship building, and I haven't once felt like I needed to buy IAP coin packs. The boss and enemy designs are very cool and very varied and the gameplay reminds of a more free-form Warning Forever/Infinity Danger, since you can destroy enemies piece by piece and target important parts.
I've been everything from a lightly armored spike covered wrecking ball that threads between bullets to a shielded powerhouse that sacrifices maneuverability for firepower.
Love the little details like your pilot flying through space upon defeat or how lasers bounce around debris
I can see myself sinking a lot of time into this game. Well worth the $1.99
Starborn Anarkist is AWESOME! Controls perfectly, has a great style to it and the physics are superb. Even your own gun can propel you! It takes a minute to get a good handle on everything, but once you wrap your brain around all of the explosions and what all the dots mean it's just gravy.

I played it quite a bit last night, and really enjoyed what I've seen so far. The game looks ace and runs really smooth on the Air, though there is a weird lag in the start menu (non-issue in the game.)
The gameplay is identical to TWD, with dialogue timers, QTEs, basic clue hunting with GIANT MARKERS around interactive objects and all that jazz. Voice acting is good and the story is very intriguing so far. There's lots of weird stuff going on, but it's a nice change from the zombie apocalypse setting. Feels good to just talk to people without worrying about getting ambushed by zombies.
