Wii U Games 2013

Man I'm getting so annoyed at DF, even after the positive impressions of AC4 on Wii U, the second they say there's problems with it, everyone bashes the Wii U versions and laughs at it.

Happened with Ghosts as well.
Eh, it's best to just enjoy your games. Do you really give a shit what GAF thinks?

I mean, these are the same people that recommend Deadly Premonition.

Damn I'm so hyped for Wii U's 2014. I just watched bunch of old trailers yesterday once again and I want to play them :X I think Wii U's next year has potential to be as good as 3DS was this year.

Yeah, can't get too worked up about it, it's about what YOU think, not others. :) Still, I'd always prefer a more positive environment. :p

But DP is supposed to be really good despite it's technical inferiority. That's why people like it, don't remember why they like it though. :p

Really excited to see what E3 2014 has in store for Wii U. Should be amazing, including Zelda!

Man, I hope so. As I've said it looks like a great year with a lot of games coming out
in categories of games I don't care for, like racing and fighting games.
I'm glad people will love those, they're just not for me. I dunno. I'm thinking and hoping there will be plenty of unannounced games coming out in 2014 that will be hopefully more up my alley. Plus there's always backlogged games to play. I do hope we see Yarn Yoshi next year, though. (YOY!)

Oh man, Zombi U is so hard, good, and stressful. This really reminds you of what survival horror is all about.

Right now I'm
deep in the bowls of Buckingham palace trying to find the doctor.

This game is damned near perfect for me. I'm on my 8th survivor and death seems around every corner! I've ever ran into a few of you guys. I killed Linkhero several times :D

Do you have Ghosts? Because I have ACIV and I played it and this game is far from being unplayable as it is described in the DF comparison. It has frame drops but quite rarely (when there are many enemies at once on screen) but I never had any issues controlling it. I really think now that maybe I'm blind or something. The game looks really great (at list I have the screenshots to prove that I'm not insane) and play smoothly most of the time. Unless I'm framerate challenged or something.
I have the digital version, I wonder if that has anything to do.

I just figure it's like audio nerds bitching about bitrate. I'm sure they're right, but I can't tell the difference.

Frankly I'm glad I can't differentiate that granularity of fidelity. If it makes it more fun for them, fair play.

If only I had the stomach to play it! I just watched the trailer for Master Reboot (upcoming eShop game) and that looked pretty sweet too, but just way too scary for me.

I have the physical version and it's the same for me. I noticed some framiness in Havana during the assassin ambush, but not much else. The issues I have with the controls have nothing to do with frame rate. :p

Very cool! I'd never heard of Master Reboot but it definitely looks very cool.

Sadly, when it comes to upcoming games (Especially Wii U games) I find it safest to assume that "Coming Soon" translates to "Will never see the light of day due to misadventure".

Yeah, I hear that. Luckily there was just an article today stating this and Gravity Badgers from the same company (Wales Interactive) are both really in the pipeline to be released soon. Shovel Knight, Knytt Underground (coming in just under two weeks!), Ghost Song, and Paradise Lost: First Contact are probably my most anticipated eShop games though.

Needs more Dex and Hyper Light Drifter and UNepic.

I did forget about HLD, that's in my top list as well. The crossover with that and PL: FC is awesome too. Dex looks very cool but I'm not sure it's really my speed. I was super into Deus Ex on PS2 and I even really liked Invisible War on XBox, but I'm not much into FPS/shooter games anymore and Dex looks a bit on the rougher, more violent side than I tend to be into these days. Trying to remember which UNepic is...looking it up...ah yes, I'd heard of it but hadn't checked it out before. That one is not up my alley either.

(I'm also looking forward to Aban Hawkins & the 1,001 Spikes.)

Yeah, Nintendo just needs to worry about keeping delivering a constant stream of quality content and to continue to attract indie devs. For that 2014 is looking promising, I wish we get a few surprises. The 3rd party stuff is sad but who knows yet what will happen. Nintendo + indies is a great mix IMO.

Wow that Master Reboot does look intriguing, thanks for sharing.

As for DF, yes they make it sound really bad, but there are people that care for that and that is OK. I guess it is better to have the game as with Black Ops 2 and AC3 I know that I am not sensible to what DF reports.

Sure thing! There seem to be lots of great indies in the pipeline. (Freezamite would be disappointed if I didn't immediately recommend everyone check out the amazing Toki Tori and Toki Tori 2+.)

I played AC3 all the way through. I have a pretty good eye for framerate dips, and I definitely noticed it in AC3. It didn't affect the experience for me though. As long is it doesn't drop below 20fps it won't really bother me a whole lot for that type of game.

Things like pop in and screen tearing bother me WAAAAY more than lower resolution of framerate.

I haven't played AC4 yet, but if they're trying to claim some dropped frames killed them, they probably suck at the game. This isn't a heavily framerate sensitive franchise.

I look at DF for objective info, but I ignore any editorial content or conclusions drawn.

Seems like the smart thing to do. I played AC Revelations on PS3 right before jumping into ACIII on Wii U and Revelations ran horribly on PS3 a lot of the time. But it still was perfectly playable. Then ACIII ran a lot smoother (haven't been to NY yet though) and the ACIV mp also ran smoothly. I just can't believe that the main game would run so bad all of a sudden that it becomes hardly playable like they make it sound.

I don't know if this is the right thread for this but Deus Ex is on sale for $21.99 on newegg.
I was randomly browsing eBay seeing how much some recent Wii U games were and stumbled upon this.

I'm sure some of the Wii U owners giving early impressions were a little biased with regard to AC4, however based on all the feedback (even adjusting somewhat assuming some bias) calling it "unplayable" seems to be overkill. I'll know for myself early next year. But as I said AC3 was absolutely playable. It played fine. Drops were there, but infrequent and not crippling. Even in NY. The Boston harbor was probably worse than NY (still not too bad).

Crap. Didn't see this until now, and now it's sold out. Boo. Been waiting to see this under $25; missed my chance.

So, Donkey Kong has an exact release date now (North America).

I don't understand it, either. I've been playing the hell out of ACIV for the Wii U and NEVER have I had any problems kickin' ass in that game. I fragging beat down a whole island of folks with no problems at all. Maybe something is wrong with their system or something. What they said just seems "off" to me from my own playtime with the game.

Does anybody know how many copies Zombi U sold? According to the site that shan't be named, it's close to 600.000... that's actually much better than i thought. I hope Nintendo is trying to get Ubisoft to release a follow up. I mean, it's not a million seller, but it's not an outright flop either, is it.

Also funny that in screenshots, the game looks much better than i remember it. Especially the outdoor segments.

That number is way above what it really did. In one of the NPD threads we had something about 150k for the US, IIRC.

How long ago? I know the game has drastically dropped in price. Now 19 euro's on the e-shop. Maybe Ubi won't take those sales in account regardless.

It was pretty early. Then again, European sales should be negligible considering how small the European userbase is. Wii U users are not interested in this type of games, light titles that can be played with the family are much more fitting that audience.

Yeah, you'd think Zombi U would be one of those games that keep on selling. It's not like there's a ton of horror alternatives for Wii U anyway.

What are you talking about, lol. It's pretty obvious Wii U isn't selling with the casual/family crowd. If it were, it would have sold more than 1 million in the past 11 months.

So you don't have sales. Early numbers are meaningless if that's all you have. This game must have traveled through word of mouth since then. It's that kind of title. Also Wii U in Europe still sold over half of what it did in the US. Enough to matter.

It's selling to the Mario audience. Not the entire casual audience but to those who enjoy family/Mario games. Software sales give enough evidence to this.

Well, I found the quote. July isn't "early numbers" though. It hadn't hit 150k in the US by then. It'd be a miracle had it sold just as much in Europe.

Again, that was months ago. I think this will prove to be a game with long legs.

I guess that's the problem. Reality isn't like that.

So I bought Mass Effect 3 Special Edition on the cheap for Wii U.

Dear god it looks and runs so bad. The cut scenes are a complete mess so far. Think I will just sell this on and cut my losses.

The Mario crowd? More Wii U owners don't own a Mario game than the other way around. It's selling to the Gamecube audience. People were just put off by the harsh reviews and rough presentation of the game. Typical things word of mouth can overcome. Show me sales numbers, this is pointless.

By July it had not hit 150k in the US:

And the Mario crowd is not on Wii U? Why is it the only game that sold well? In the US, it has an attach rate of roughly 70%?! Check your facts, please.

I guess this is what you've been listening to all day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQDHCyFe2rY

If you seriously think that sales significantly increased since July or that European sales even hit 100k, then you are out of your mind. Or do you suggest it sold 300k in Japan yesterday?

I think we should get back to topic. ;)

600.000 is too much, game is more like in the 300.000 to 400.000 units region currently.

But it can reach 600.000 over the time because it's a launch game even new buyers want to try. But Ubi will make less $ per copy, since it's already quite cheap to get.

AGAIN: i do not care for your opinion on what YOU think it sold. I'm asking how much it sold, worldwide, over 12 months. If you don't know the answer, fine, MOVE ALONG. Also please state where i believe it sold those numbers. Try READING next time because you seem to have serious issues with that. I'm saying those are the numbers stated on youknowwhere. I'm not saying they are accurate HENCE ME ASKING.

I'm sure these last 6 months ZombiU sales have exploded.

What a witty remark. Now, do you have actually something substantial to add to the discussion or not? No? Ok.

Wow, relax man.

I posed a very clear question. I didn't ask to get trolled.

And if you had the numbers, what would you going to compare them to? What is the threshold for a sequel to be made? How many copies were moved only at heavy discounts?

So, basically, it doesn't matter and people aren't allowed to ask a simple question even if just to be informed. I don't know what the threshold would be, but it would be interesting to see how many people actually played the game. Like i said earlier, just knowing if the game has legs, if there is interest in it, even at reduced price. Zombi U has all it takes to be a sleeper hit, traveling on word of mouth, selling small numbers over longer periods. If this is the case, maybe Nintendo could consider funding a sequel. It's a rather polarizing game, and i think those who hated it, could have very well sold it. Those that liked it, even after after paying only 20 bucks for it, might very well snatch up the sequel at full price. I don't know if you played the game, or if you have followed the feedback it gets. But you'll not find many people saying "it was ok, i guess". Even now, in the "just bought a wii u" thread, it is one of the games first recommended to new owners, often followed and appreciated.

@Zing: Ok.
