Ya know putting aside the technical issues like screen tearing and loading times, with the former becoming unnoticable over time, such that it hardly affects the experience and gameplay, it's a pretty good contender for GotY.

I do however, hope it gets a PC release on Steam, this game at 60 FPS will be what having sex with Mondo is like.

Oops, one's just shorter. Oh well.

Also, that zoom-in alone would make a great reaction gif. Step aside, Nicholson.

I second this once again, I don't know if it's possible, but a PC release of this game would be the coolest thing on earth.

60fps and stupidly high resolutions (based Unreal Engine) would make it so damn good and beautiful. I'd instantly preorder it. I just hope this time we digital buyers get the bonus content as well, it sucks not being able to play Mission 51, I'm glad Two Best Friends had the DLC in their playthrough so I could at least watch it.

All GM games would be sweet on PC, this one especially though. This game maxed out would be extreme eye candy.

You can't help but get hype with them.

"THIS IS EVEN MORE WHAT I WANTED" sums up the final part of this game pretty well. Man I miss those kinds of games, I hope next gen brings way more japanese anime style games.

EDIT: Also, we do have XSEED people here, I wonder if there is a demand and if they can do anything about it or if it's entirely up to the japanese publisher.

Entirely up to GHM, not to mention the coding.

Interesting interview with Suda here.

Enjoying it so far. The interviewers mention the wrestling stuff and K7, but they seem clueless about Moonlight & Twilight Syndrome unfortunately(though Suda does mention it).

I wish we could get a dynamic themes and a few avatars on PSN. As dumb as it is, I really care about this kind of stuff, and since I only buy using PSN Cards, I always have change on my wallet that I'll never use, so I just use on this stuff.

There's a pretty boss wallpaper I got from the PSN thread.

It's what I currently use.

I'm surprised at how much I'm digging this game. There's plenty of style in the visuals/soundtrack, the story is fucking bizarre, and the combat is quite enjoyable once you learn how to dodge, guard, and guard break I'm tandem. In other words, it's definitely a Suda joint.

BUT I'm getting my ass kicked early by chapter 4's boss. Once I get to the 2nd phase of the fight I just get wailed on with his purple attacks. Any tips or any advice? I haven't upgraded anything nor did I do any gigolo missions. Should I?

Yes. You get upgraded/more weapons from the gigolo missions.

They're also hilarious.

Definitely upgrade.

Gigolo missions are nice at least to get the drill, but the sub weapons are not really that important for combat.

Zonic

Gives all the fucks
Yeah, the drill is pretty much the only sub weapons that I really used from the gigolo missions. I never touched the other two that you can earn.

& yeah, upgrade so your attacks are faster/stronger and so you can heal by holding down one of the buttons.

Good call with the upgrades, guys. The drill, healing, faster dodge, and faster sword are gamechangers. Combat is better than ever.

The games gets better the more I play, and each level is better than the last. Currently at the
train
episode and I'm looking to finish it today.

Damn, I'm really bad at this game, even on easy.

It seems picking the correct upgrades is very important.

Getting faster attacks, faster dodge, and blood --> hp has made things more manageable, but still.

What's the best way to make money? Only beat mission 6, but no way am I making enough money for all the gigolo gifts...

Loving the art style, atmosphere, and voice acting.

Best way to make money is replay Weight Limit on Normal.

You fight 3 types of enemies:
Gunners, Melee and Mace

Melee will never counter once you start attacking them but keep an eye out for any surprise attacks from other enemies when mauling on one. (They WILL counter attack on Hard though)

Mace will block attacks after you start attacking them, if they do, do a dodge or Block, then do a normal Guard Break and continue your combo.

Keep an eye out for the Gunner's laser scope, once you see keep holding Block and dodging, if you time it right you should be able to do a rush and finish them off.

The main goal while playing is to keep your blood up, and always use the one-hit kill attack once you have enough blood to perform it. Don't use it if there's only one enemy left since you want to recover blood by beating it.

Once you know you're at the end of teh stage, finish any remaining enemies with the one-hit kill attack.

On average you'll be making 600,000-900,000. You get IIRC, 300,000 extra cash if you finish it while taking no damage, which isn't that hard if you're careful enough.

gamefly'd this and already returned it.

I might rent it again, though, I don't think I gave it a fair chance.

I got up to the end of ep. 4 and I just really wasn't having fun with the combat. It just seemed really clunky and not much depth to it.

Does the game get any better after ep. 4 and upgrading more, or is it just more of the same? I was expecting Bayo/DMC levels of combat greatness.

Well you only really did two episodes of combat, 1 & 2 are just previews. You saw the gist of it, but not even a taste of how crazy it gets.

I just replayed Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned. I can't wait to play this... Just waiting for a price drop. Grasshopper might be my favorite developer this gen.

I started playing this game and its fun, but the difficulty is definitely taking the joy out of i.t. don't know if I'll continue

Are you playing on Hard or Normal?
Really the best method of combat is to always Hold Guard or perform a dodge as soon as you see an attack is coming. Attack, Attack, Attack, Dodge/Guard/Counter, repeat.

It gets better, yes, but don't expect Bayo/DMC levels of combat quality, why would you? When it turned out to be actually decent it was already a great surprise given their track record. It's actually pretty good, but of course it doesn't come close to DMC levels of depth, it doesn't even try. It's actually closer to Revengeance light or God Hand.

Well, I have absolutely no clue as to how Gigolo Missions work, but I'm enjoying the game.
Kinda wish there was lock-on though.

Do Gigolo missions after finishing some of Scarlet's challenges. If you max out your Guts, a cutscene will occur and you'll get the sunglasses.
Now go to either the Japanese woman or the latina and press the button to put on the glasses whenever possible, keep lowering the camera at their body to build up guts, but keep an eye on their 'tolerance' gauge, if this goes to 0 you fail the gigolo mission. To have it recover, just look away from the beauty, I just move the camera to the right and it fills up.

Finish 3 gigolo missions after getting the glasses to get the remaining subweapons.

ANYWAYS Could someone post an image or a GIF of Mondo doing the thumbs after maxing out the guts gauge for the latina? Sorry their names escape me atm ^^;

I really dig the art in this game, reading the positive impressions here made me pull the trigger on the fan edition when it was a daily deal at playasia. Hope I don't regret it.

Why did you have those expectations? Serious question.

Just beat the game and I am genuinely offended. After 10 hours there was virtually zero character development, I know nothing more about any of the characters then I did when the game began. There's a fuckton of plot holes too. It's such a waste because the characters seemed so cool. And I wouldn't even mind a poor story if the game was actually fun but at times I could swear it was designed by a monkey (dream boss, garden level, etc). I really didn't think my opinion of Suda could get lower after Shadows of the Damned but yeah there it is.

Replaying the game might help in making more sense of the story.
Here's a post that tries to clear up the story

That's a great article. Always enjoy the perspective of someone who's familiar with the Kill The Past series.

Guys, that's my article! I posted it on the previous page.
Thanks!

EDIT
And now I see CJ already commented on the last page!

So my copy arrived today. Glad I ended up getting the american fan edition. It's much nicer, sturdier box, hardcover artbook, very nice.

As for the game, I have no idea what's going on but I love the gameplay. It's simple but really addicting. When I start one of Scarlett's challeneges I don't stop until I complete it. I was drawn to the game because of the artstyle and it really is very nice, fantastic use of cell shading. Shame about the tearing though, there's more than I was expecting.
Gigolo missions sure are a peculiar way to unlock weapons to say the least lol but at least the girls are nice to look at.
I can see how this might've rubbed some people the wrong way but the whole thing is so cheesy and tongue in cheek that in the end I just get the feeling that some people need to lighten up.
