Wait, why do 18yo call people at 30yo as "old enough to be my dad"?

Surfing on Badoo I notice a few 18 year old girls writing on their profile that they don't want to chat, date or even get new male friends over 30 year old. They think that anyone over 30 is really old and can be their dad/grandpa. I don't know if I find that funny or sad lol

Edit: just to be clear, the iPad app doesn't say how old the people are until I look at their profile.

I'm 30+ and old enough to be a dad of someone who is 18. This is why I don't date, talk, or even be friends with someone young enough to be my daughter. Gaf is the only place where I am communicating with teenagers not knowingly which is sort of creepy.

Dude, 18-year-olds don't want anything to do with you if you are even 23. That's the number one reason not to take a year off college. When you return all the Freshman treat you like some sort of fat, exchange student.

And it's not that bad because you realize you have nothing in common.

It's not so much age, but it's their attitude toward responsibility. Do 18 year olds want to act mature all the time or just when they're supposed to? I told a few 20 year olds not to drink and drive if they were going to party and all they told me was, "what are you my dad?".

Hey it's the real freaking truth. Now this isn't OPs point, but it's mine. Being young at 18 or 20 doesn't mean you have all this freedom you had as a minor. You're an adult now. Responsibility shouldn't be a painful reminder.

18-23 is about the same mindset.

as a 31 year old it is annoying when younger people point to that age range as some far off distant thing. i was probably the same way in my late teens but people in their mid twenties sort of freak out when they find out how old i am and it really grinds my gears

i was talking to a 19 year old girl some time ago and she said "you're that old? so i guess you were born in the 60s or something?"

Remember when you were a kid and thought teenagers were grown ups? It's like that.

Why would you expect anyone to understand what any age older than them is truly like?

Technically old enough to be her grand farther :\

EDIT I wonder if Father-Grand Father can be unlocked through some ingenious process of in-breading?

Well, obviously shows you something about their mental ability/mathematical skill there.

No.

Just go for the 17 year olds or the asian girls with daddy issues. Worked for me.

On the flip side of things, when I was doing my Master's, half of my classmates were in their 40s, and doing my Doctorate now, most of my classmates are in their 60s.

I think a 30-year-old being with an 18-year-old is a little creepy, but I know a few girls who explicitly want to date much older guys.

Next time one says that you are old enough to be her dad, just tell her she's young enough to be your next victim. lick your lips and raise your eyebrows for added effect.

I was just watching Manhattan earlier, and Woody Allen was dating a 17 year old there. Nobody really seemed to care though.

I guess it more depends on the person. I'm 20, and most of my friends are 23+...as long as you're a sensible person it shouldn't matter. I will agree that most of my classmates don't really care about people much older than 2 years older than theirselves

Did this when I was 25. I even took her to school in the morning

I bet it made some of her friends really jealous. I was good friends with a girl that worked with me across the street from her high school. When she was a sophomore at least once a week I would go pick her up and bring her to work, until she got a car of her own. I drove a pretty nice car, stayed in great shape, and was in college. We were not dating, never did although we would go out as friends sometimes. Anyway, from what I understand it really made her popular at school. She always had me pick her up in front where everyone could see her get in my car, and you would see her friends acting all giggly and stuff like young girls do.

Sad to think 5 year later and you go from being cool college hunk to creepy old man.

A movie created and starring Woody Allen features a world where no one is phased by him dating a much younger woman. You don't say.
