PS4/Xbox One Sunday Retail Stock Check: December 15-25

Updating an earlier post not that anyone cares:

Our store had 40 of our 60 PS4s sold before open Sun morning, during a 10 inch snowfall. We didn't sell out the rest until today because they're still doing a "controlled" sell not putting stock on the floor & essentially only giving to those who asked (which is beyond stupid)

We put out the remainding 10 this morning for everyone & they were gone within 30 min easily. I had one guy actually stop me & ask if it was okay to take aha. His shock was hilarious.

On the Xbone side of things we are completely stocked. We're averaging 1 OMS pick a day, which is kind of sad, but as stated before I'm sure they're stocking the hell out of NA. Imagine sales #s will be a toss up between the two.

But that PS4 demand is def stronger than I thought.

Also - We are actually selling good amounts of Wii U's as well which makes me smile.

Visiting my parents out of town at Coos Bay OR. Went to the Walmart and saw this:

Asked a guy working there and he said they still have tons of PS4s in the back too. Just a heads up for anyone looking for one.

Also, they had a few Xbox Ones as well.

Pretty much the same story everywhere I've been today.

I have no doubt in my mind that after Christmas those units they are keeping off of shelves will be put out.

Well it is true though. Sony has other markets to ship while MS is focusing all of their stock in NA.

I would believe this if not for the fact after all the days the xone has been on sale on Amazon the Ps4 didn't pass it in sales for the year in one shipment.

It's quite sad how you seem to routinely trawl through people's post history just to make pointless posts such as that. Unless it's at Amir0x levels of out-right lying and trying to cover up past behaviours (nothing against Amir0x, just the biggest example over the years), why does it matter? Do you really care that someone's bias may have lead them to contradict themselves? Really? Do you think if I were to search through your post history over the years you'd come up clean? That tag you had a few weeks ago seems to have gone to your head.
It matters because exposing flip-flopping console warriors is funny and many people enjoy it. I also know you would not have replied if I exposed a Sony warrior. Expose me when you find my weakness, I'm not going to cry about it like you if you do so, I'm fair game like anyone else.

By the way, I requested that tag to be removed myself, as it wasn't nice to the people linked in it.

I was impressed to see the Best Buy in northern Columbus have both (unbundled) PS4s and xbones in stock this afternoon. Mall was a zoo.

Wrong. I admit I have a bias for MS (funny how it changed from Sony about 8 years ago), just as I'm sure you have a preference for Sony right now, but I am definitely not some sort of rabid fanboy. My response would have been the same regardless of what sort of "warrior" you "exposed". Speaking of which, did you ever "expose" a Sony "warrior" during your recent escapade? Did you try?

As for me "exposing" you, well, that's kind of my point. I wouldn't. I wouldn't feel the need to look through your history just to "expose" you. I guess I wouldn't find it as funny or enjoyable as you and these other people you speak of. Speaking of which, again; don't you find it kind of peculiar that you enjoy "exposing" people in the first place, but don't find it nice to have those people then mentioned in your tag?

It's that Microsoft should stop focusing on just North America when they cannot sell a sizable amount of systems here. The demand isn't there.

What do you mean by stop focusing? Do you mean by selling in new markets? Or by shipping more units to current (non-US) markets?

I don't think NA is saturated yet. I haven't seen a single XB1 or PS4 since they launched (aside from the day I bought my PS4). I wasn't specifically looking for them, but I gravitate towards the games section when I'm out and about doing routine shopping/xmas shopping anyway.

This is what I was thinking: Someone could have bought it, only to discover later that the cross-platform games look better on the PS4. And he returned it out of spite.

There's a lot of Xbox fanboys out there that are shocked when they hear this in the break-room. I've witnessed one myself. Right now, he's lost faith in the gaming industry as a whole.

Yikes. That certainly doesn't bold well for Microsoft once word gets out that most multiplatform games looks & performs way better on PS4, especially when most people plays multiplat games over exclusives nowadays.

Plus your co-worker should be blaming Microsoft for putting in such weaker hardware inside Xbox One, not Sony or the gaming industry.

Seen a lot of Ones throughout the hoildays. Only saw PS4 two times. Once on Thanksgiving day and the other time a couple weeks ago on a Friday night at Toys R Us. Tonight at Wal-Mart in Wyomissing, PA there were zero Wii U, zero PS4 and three Xbox Ones.

Anecdotally, either Sony is producing a lot less systems, or the Xbox One isn't selling as well as PS4 locally.

My local Target had maybe 7 xbones in the case today at 7pm, ps4s sold out.

Im in this store every sunday usually and there were always xbones, never a ps4...whats it mean..who knows.

But a case full (it was Full) of xbones in the evening on Dec 23rd, thats suggesting supply and demand have at least begun to see eye to eye.

There was 6-7 PS4s in the case and 2 Xbox Ones at the Wal-Mart in Fargo, ND tonight. I was surprised. And kinda wished I had the money to buy both. Oh well. Tax returns will be soon!

itd be real embarrassing if the xbox one lost to the wii u's first january worldwide, technically it is possible, they dont have a japanese market at all, and its expensive and not selling out. 140k in america in jan, 140k in europe in jan(both more than double the wii u's jan), and it would still sell less because it has no japanese market. wii u is at like 290-300k worldwide in its first january.

Who the hell just walks out of a store with a huge ass box?

Our store has seen people walk out with 37 inch tv's. Just unplug a display and walk out the door before people realize what happened. Best Buy security cannot physically detain a customer so if they are quick enough.

Best Buy in Poughkeepsie NY is fully loaded on XBox One if anyone is interested. I didn't want to but I picked one up for myself.

They had 3 large piles. One at pickup, one at front entry and one in game area.

Nice that these are in stock for the kids this Christmas. No PS4 on the shelf. Glad I got in on that Amazon preorder early!

Update from my district. I don't work today but did have someone check. 7/10 stores have completely sold out of PS4's and the 3 have about 55 between them left (3 stores are furthest from the city center.) Wouldn't be surprised if those are gone by close of business today.

Xbox still in stock at every store. We receive Xbox shipments almost weekly now. Smaller shipments then the PS4 but curious to see what our next PS4 shipment looks like.

MS seems to be stocking dozens of Xbox Ones every week at my local Walmart, BB and FS. PS4s apparently are coming in slightly smaller numbers and selling way faster. Still has been a nightmare to get the consoles this time of the year though.

My local mom & pop game shop has the reverse situation. They've only been able to get 2 Xbox Ones since launch while they have been getting a decent amount of PS4s.

Manitoba, Canada btw.

Went shopping with the girl yday and at 2 target stores had X1 in stock on capital and one at oakridge mall. Also MS store at valleyfair mall had TONS in San Jose. Parking sucked :( Didn't see any PS4 though.

"Oversupply issues" is easily the most polite way I've ever heard someone refer to something not selling fast enough.

I mean, I can see what you're driving at with it - the idea that they retracted into the US/UK out of fear of losing their base markets and have been pouring far more stock into them - but it's still just funny to see such a... "politically correct" way of expressing it.

The X-Box One isn't a large system, its parts just have comfortable headroom!

I'm not trying to be pc about it. There is definitely demand for the system but it's clear there's not the kind of demand that keeps shelves empty for months. I don't think this is a bad thing; you could easily find a highly sought after ipad a few weeks after release on shelves. It's just that we're seeing it at the same time the ps4 is severely supply strained. There's no doubt the ps4 has more demand, and there's no doubt xb1 has more supply. The doubt here lies in what it means for sales in December.

I'm completely opposed to the xb1; the price-performance is awful, ms upset me with their drm policies they tried to pull, their employees that post on gaf or twitter have been polite but misleading to the point of questioning their integrity, and I could give a rip about their first party offerings. I called it the "bud lite" of game consoles to my beer connoisseur friend who wasn't sure if he would get it or a ps4 yesterday. Both were in stock at the wal mart he works at. He was leaning xb1, but after my comment he ended up getting both lol.

Anywho my point being that I'm not trying to paint a rosy picture for ms here. I truly don't know what to expect. I do hope both do well, but if I had my druthers Nintendo and Sony would spank ms. And this is coming from someone who was mostly a 360 player last gen for multiplatform titles. My pc and ps4 will suit me nicely this time around. When I eventually get a wii u I'll just pretend multiplatform games don't exist on it...heck I might not have to pretend too hard since many won't even come out for it anyways!

All Best Buys in my area (South Fl.) have had Xbone units available for about a week now. They sell out for a day and are back in stock immediately.

WalMart in Ooltewah, Tennessee (Just outside Chattanooga) had six Playstation 4's on the shelf along with 4 Xbox One's. The store associate said they have moved a lot more Xbox One's this holiday but that is due to the PS4 just now being restocked.

Heard a commercial on the radio this morning from the actual Sony Repair center saying they have limited stock of ps4 for sale. I didn't know they actually sold stuff, thought they were just a repair center.

BTW are there Sony repair centers on the US mainland? (I live in Hawaii)

Are we getting the Wii effect here for both consoles? At least the same way for PS4. PS4 clearly has demand, which atm is greater than supply. Which in turn creates more demand. Xbone on the other hand has demand (I don't want to argue this), but has a ton of supply. As a result I think it's diminishing demand.

When you see a PS4 on the shelf you go, "damn they got one here. Better buy it before it sells out." When you see an Xbone on the shelf you go, "Oh they have xbones. Meh, everyone has xbones. I'll hold off on buying."

when I lived in Honolulu a couple of years ago there used to be a Sony repair center on Mapunapuna, right next to the Coca-Cola Bottling Co.

the two targets I frequent (one by home one by work) have both had xbones for the better part of two weeks. I think there might be a time or two that they actually didn't.

PS4s I've only ever seen there once last week (literally one unit) and once the sunday where Walmart got a ton, they actually had the case filled with like 4-6 or so.

After two weeks of full xbone availability nationwide, I think it's time to stop saying "oh man MS is the master of supply chain!!" Yes the system is selling but if you honestly don't believe there is reduced demand you are deluding yourself.

Wow even Wii U

Wii U's were sold out at both Targets this week as well. At first I smiled and said "Woohoo!!! It's finally happening!!!!!" but then I realized they probably just sold the 2-3 units each that they've probably had for 3 months now. :( Poor Wii U (hugs his system).

Yeah I tend to hug mine too from time to time, I keep telling her it's gonna be ok, but I have a feeling she doesn't believe me :(

Was still plenty of Xbox Ones in my Tesco. With no mad rush from people wanting them before Xmas. |Only saw 1 person buy one all day. Don't think my store will be needing a restock of them for a bit at this rate.

I think MS are going to have some grim reading early next year if this is the Xmas demand.

Had a pyramid of XB1's at Wal-Mart last night with hundreds of customers around, but not a single buyer, really odd this time of year.

No PS4s left and sold out of WiiU & 3DS
