I don't know. The last time they cut off a system early, the DS happened. Whereas the one time they waited too long, we got the Wii U.

The DS started very slowly and they had to end early production of the GBA, in order to push it (because the GBA was eating into it's sales).

There is a 1% chance of Nintendo announce a sku without the gamepad (with Wiimote), or it is crazy to think about that ?

Amount of software sold doesn't necessarily tell you which one moves more HW. I think it's entirely possible that smash bros will move more HW than nintendos other big hitters. The problem is that right now that still isn't all that much.

Correct me if I am wrong but MK Wii has sold close to 35,000,000 units. The game managed close to 25,000,000 units before being bundled and moved another 10,000,000 or so after the bundle released. These numbers are just off the top of my head.

Mario Kart obviously moves consoles. What might not be a bad idea would be to launch a MK8 bundle day one at $279.99, cut the price of the naked console to $249.99 and release MK8 at $39.99.

Won't happen.

Should have been done before release as Nintendo was contemplating.

Could someone post the sales of all (3D) Marios in the same timeframe, please? I remember the first week from 3D World was sadly the worst, but did it sell good enough in dezember to change that? :)

We aren't done with Wii U yet. NPD tomorrow and Nintendo financial report at 29.
Iwata will be ejected from his seat soon enough. #FreeArakawa

I don't know why people keep thinking this. Action on the hardware front takes months to years, anything of interest would have had to been planned as far in advance. Right now serious action in the revival style requires a system redesign or some crazy new game and if you see one it'll have been in the works for a while.
Waiting on one crazy idea of a game is a dumb thing to do. NCL's output needs to seriously improve. A few amount of games is the better thing as well as promoting what they have in the works. Where the HD Remakes at?

I don't know. The last time they cut off a system early, the DS happened. Whereas the one time they waited too long, we got the Wii U.

Blame the GBA for that.

Lot's of animu games and PS3/4 crossreleases.

There'll be more iterations in currently succesful franchises and a decent (japanese) first party support. Sony Japan seems to be working better for the last 1-2 years.

That's a pretty decent line up. Does Terraria have a retail version like the PS3 one?

At first glance, the big titles missing here would be Persona 4 Dance in late summer and Phantasy Star Nova which hasn't gotten a release date yet.

March should be pretty good, if they can announce a small price-cut for Hatsune Miku and SSD release it should build up some momentum again.

There's a way higher chance of that. It really isn't that hard to accomplish, it doesn't affect anybody who already bought a Wii U with a Pad, no developers are pushing it (not even EAD!) and there's a greater chance of success without the Pad than with.

They just need to switch course in the marketing department, and optimize the home menu and eShop for Wii remote (also add stickers on a couple games saying "requires GamePad"). Maybe patch 3D World, too.

Speaking of trends

Do you think Knack (Runner up Game of the 2013/ Platformer of the year 2013) will also outsell SM3DW in Japan as it did in the UK?

IIRC Knack is bundled with every console sold in Japan. I read that on this site. If that´s true, than Knack might sell more than Mario in Japan.

This is exactly the kind of thing the WiiU could do with. A few/long months of solid to top notch releases.

Vita list is complete for January and February and it's not impressive.

March was big for Vita last year.

SCEJ's 2014 Vita games probably won't push sales a lot though, Soul Sacrifice Delta is an expanded version, Gravity Rush 2 is a sequel and Freedom Wars is feeding into the same audience SS, Toukiden and God Eater 2 have been serving.

We'll see what else they have in store for this year.

It would require a lot of developers to patch their games. I'm not sure any third parties want to deal with it anymore.

That's the difference. Vita was getting third party support (even though largely ports and niche titles) well before it started doing OK.

Wii U is getting NO third party support, and it won't unless it somehow starts doing more than just OK.

Then they have to redesign the whole UI cause you use the tablet for pretty much everything. The Shop, Miiverse and a lot of games wont work without it. Removing the tablet controller wont accomplish anything.

It's not a matter of what you or anyone thinks. It's simply the reality, things take time. You can say "NCL make your output better" they probably agree but so long as developing a new game takes 2 years you won't see the fruits of this labor for some time. We can berate that they should have been even more proactive but it doesn't help now. Even a slew of Sony-style HD remakes would take a good 6 months to churn out.

Wii U: This is what you get when you don't release games weekly.

Kirby numbers are just like Zelda 3DS' numbers. Nintendo needs to be aggressive with their big tentpole titles and just overship them if need be.

So it will drop until March...

I need to learn some japanese to play Super Robot Wars Z3 :(

Sod 3rd part support for the moment. NCL themselves should be setting an example for the 3rd parties to take note and possibly follow. I've moaned about this many times before, but Iwata having NCL doing it all on their own is the most stupid thing he's ever done. There should be teams in the Western branches helping out with output. Hell, HD remakes should be used to plug the holes.

3DS Beat DS first years and much of second. Also doesn't remove the glaring issue of cannibalisation, and transition of software.

It beat the DS struggling years numbers, just barely.

Now the 3DS is something ridiculous like 50% behind the DS, and all signs point to it having already peaked when even juggernauts like Pokemon and Monster Hunter did absolutely nothing for the system last year...
