"Halo players doing well in CoD" who Cyren? None if them is in a position to win any tournament, hell they all have to play open bracket.
And even if a formal gets lost .. I don't care, formal is an idiot.
Of course CoD is more well known, of course Halo struggled.
And yeah i think as long MLG takes the game which pays mor ethan the game which is more balanced, COD will remain their title.

Certain things outside of just winning tournaments can be important. Since the switch Formals social network numbers have skyrocketed, stream numbers have been higher than it ever was playing Halo, Youtube is growing, etc. Playing in daily tourneys so he's making more than what AGL didn't pay out.

Not every players going to make it, but a lot are getting higher on the "food chain" over there now.

What are your thoughts on semi-power weapons like the Brute Shot physics effects on vehicles?

You're not asking me but I'd like to throw in my thoughts on the Brute Shot/Concussion Rifle.

I honestly prefer these attacking me over something more lethal. I prefer using them to take on a Vehicle when I can as well. Why? It's simple. They have more chance of flipping the vehicle, and the vehicle takes less damage. If I'm able to take out the people who are ejected then I get that vehicle. Same for if it attacks me. If I flip and they want me dead, I can fight back in some capacity or make an escape on foot.

It also produced something that was a huge part of my Halo 3 days which was launching. The use of a Brute Shot as a passenger on a Mongoose to launch the Mongoose ridiculously high and far if done properly.

i got this.
I can't stand how every H4 forge map looks cluttered as shit, 343i really fucked up forge. You can perfectly tell how they had no idea what they're doing, if ONLY they'd have asked actual forgers for advice.

They also said Dominion was going to replace the kind of gameplay I was used to in Invasion so yeah, they really had no idea what they're talking about.

Edit: FUCKING MAGNETS don't even work properly and are a pain in the ass to turn on and off.

So...I don't have much fondness for the Halo 3 Brute Shot, or its reskin the Concussion Rifle. A part of that is the huge physics impulse and its effect on vehicles (and players), but I think that's probably only half of the story. It's just really easy to use with extreme effectiveness - there's not much to it other than "aim at thing, mash trigger" because those physics impulses are additive and can have huge effect without a whole lot of effort. Now, you take the Halo 2 Brute Shot where it has to bounce before it detonates, and I think the story changes quite a bit. You add that little requirement that forces people to maybe have to position themselves better to get good use out of it since they need to get bounces, and it becomes a lot more interesting. It's not really that I think the H3 Brute Shot doesn't have merit or that it shouldn't have those physics effects, it's that it's so easy to use that it becomes a very one-note, spammy weapon. It's sort of mitigated by its magazine size, but at the point where you've hit three or four of the six rounds, you've probably already served your purpose and that Hog is likely off the cliff without any way to recover.

Having said that, it has more balancing factors than the Chopper guns did, namely the projectile travel time, so there's that. So I guess my thoughts are that it's okay as long as there's a good, strong ability curve to it along with it being more situational than all-purpose so people are more hesitant to spam. I do think you need to be really careful with that kind of thing, though. Bouncing a Warthog around is funny for the person in control, but it can be really frustrating for the people acting as the pinball, so it takes a good sense of moderation (probably in terms of spawn times and ammo count) that we don't see much in Halo these days.

They botched their implementation, If your going to remove the editing tool's reach had at least do a decent job with your own stuff. It's amazing how badly some of those magnet's are aligned, put me right off forge.

Just put in a few hours Reach solo multiplayer, great post, Karl. I'm almost at 40,000,000 cR in the bank. Maybe it'll buy me some sweet shoes in Destiny.

i got this.

Did you ever post on Forgehub back in the day? I'm always surprised when I run into a Forgehub member on Gaf. I had an extremely detailed remake of Guardian on Halo: Reach, but never finished it because by the time I finished the snipetower, elbow and centre platform, I'd used half the budget and realised I could never complete it perfectly with the accuracy I wanted.

That's a screenshot of S2. I even added minuscule touches like having walls jut out at exactly the right spot that no-one would ever notice or appreciate. I measured the goddamn angle of walkways to within a few degrees, then made sure they were perfect. I was way too fastidious.

Just managed to grav hammer myself through the floor on the 2nd tower of The Covenant in Halo 3 (the bit when the flood appear).

I was stuck in a "room" beneath the top of the tower.

Nice work karl :D, it appear's i'm a repeat sufferer a far lower ceiling in reach 1182 double kills, 160 triple and 23 overkill's i'm awful lol.

If my math is right I only got a triple kill from 13.54% of my doubles, and triple to overkill is 14.38%

If you shove a Mongoose on the lift by punching it past the invisible walls, you can drive it around at the very top and even use those crates in the room to clip through the tower's glass and go explore the Citadel vista way early.

I got the Mongoose there but never thought to clip through the walls with it. :(

Damn nice, Karl.

I remember that Plywood quote like it was yesterday. Oh, when Plywood use to roam these halls. Such glory. Much perfection.

There's an even simpler way to make it to the Citadel, but doing it from the first tower still means a good 85% of the entire area's covered in kill-barriers.

Maybe as an alternative to Custom Game Night we could go dick around in Halo 3's co-op. I may suck in a firefight, but I know how to explore shit.

Henery, congrats on winning the highest honor in tonight's ceremony. Please accept this award on behalf of myself and all the Tashi Ceiling victims. Any words?

People for Portland are ok in my book now.

Also Halo, my old Sparkast write-up:
Sparkast #16 “Sandbox” | Direct Link | Also available on Itunes and Zune.

Present during the podcast: Josh Holmes (Creative Director), Frank O’Conner (Franchise Development Director), Chris Blohm (Systems Designer), Chris King (Lead Sandbox Designer) and David Ellis (Spartan Ops Designer).

Weapons:
  • The reintroduction of the BR and bringing back DMR was a controversial within the team from the start, because the two weapons share a similar role.
  • It also spawned the discussion on having three to four mid-range weapons. With it came the question if they were drastically changing the sandbox, introducing too much player choice and will people understand that there are multiple weapons that serve the same purpose overlap in functionality.
  • Josh pushed for player choice, to a degree that people on the team got uncomfortable. By allowing people these different choices you mix things up.
  • You don’t get knocked out of zoom when getting shot, however your aiming redicle gets knocked out of target a little bit. Also depends on what weapon you are using and armor mod.
  • They have introduced a flinch system, now it does not kick you of zoom but will knock your camera around to make it harder to shoot. You’re at a disadvantage when somebody gets the jump on you, but you can correct if the enemy is across the map.
  • The amount of flinch is dependable on the weapon you are using and the incoming fire, i.e. the sniper implementation is very different from BR, DMR and other guns.
  • They went three drastically different directions with the Forerunner weapons, but at the end of the day they found that the ones that are most relatable and people understood as core weapons but sci-fi’d up were the ones that spoke to the team.
  • The first weapon that stuck was the Scattershot (originally called spreadgun) and was the one that kicked off the development of the other Forerunner weapons.
  • The Lightrifle was originally called the Homingrifle. It was like the needler, it would lock on an enemy and shoot at them. It became way to overpowered in multiplayer, it was fun to have in singleplayer but in enemies hands it was also too overpowered.
[*] The UNSC rifle is going to be little bit easier, more skill and finesse is needed though.
Armor mods:
  • There are two types of armor mods; tactical packages and support packages.
  • Tactical packages effect the primary systems, such as what weapons you spawn with, how many grenades you can carry, picking up grenades, how you sprint etc.
  • Support packages are stuff like how much ammo you have, how the motion tracker works, how well you can you the gun on the warthog.
[*] Idea behind is that the player will approach the battle differently with them.
Vehicles:
  • They have introduced a hybrid Halo 3/Reach vehicle health system.
  • Banshee health has been cranked up, Reach had 380 hit point but Halo 4 has 475. It has been given more weaknesses, like the tricks it could do has been slowed down, it is not easy to evade stuff and the Banshee will show up on maps that have a lot of power weapons.
  • Scorpion driving controls are now a Halo 3/Reach hybrid. It is more akin to Halo 3 though. The speed of it is a bit faster. The main canon has been slowed down.

You guys remember that scene where the Spartan does a kickflip knocking that Brute Chieftain?

For those animations they needed CG actors to perform those real-time moves. That has me wondering what other types of fighting styles 343 has planned for spartans to act when in hand to hand combat. Perhaps a little MMA?

I can see it now, Master Chief does an Arm Bar on the Didact. Then takes his knife and aims for the head. Yup just take my money now if Halo Tv is anything like this please...

Using Tashi's stat's on karl's spreadsheet. He had(has?) a 8.43% of getting a triple kill from a double. This is higher than deadly cyclone's 8.01% shouldn't it be the cyclone ceiling instead? (based on my math's being correct.) If urk is still around they have 7.9%.

Tashi/cyclone/urk ceiling?

Soon. Gotta do the editing but I've been super busy with stuff.

I think the joke came from not only me getting a lot of triples but also because I was so butthurt about it lol

That must have been funny, I get stuck a double's because there is no one else in the immediate vicinity. The stat's are really interesting to look at double to triple 12.11% chance using the total number's, so it's a 12.11% ceiling.

Fyrewulff has 37.76% of all of the killpocalypse medals. wow that's good :D.

Oh wow, seeing my friend raging and saying Halo 4 is not fair compared to COD is HILARIOUS, I tell you!!

Vehicles are unfair, SAW is unfair, grenade jump throwing is unfair... everything is unfair. I think that's what you get when you think that being good at COD means your good at shooters.

Two different games. Being good at one does not make you immediately good at the other.

Great infographic. It taught me what the Tashi Ceiling is.

Good shit Karl, gave me flashbacks to that Bungie infographic that they put out a few years ago.

Awesome job, Karl.

I love reading statistics like that

That's pretty cool Karl, I just submitted my infodata too. The images themselves seem kind of big though.

If you get on, I'll get on. Guilt that.

..unless I decide to impulse buy Tomb Raider right now to play the multiplayer on my Bone.

Aw, well I hope you did that as I got roped into shopping by my GF last night. Yay new pants.

Great post Karl. It's too bad Bungie stopped collecting data/updating the stats, Waypoint is horrendous in comparison.

Great post Karl.

Aww man, Plywood with 100 perfections?? I feel bad right now...

Beautiful work Karl.

Oh shit Karl. That was really nice!

More stat pages coming or is that it?

Thanks again! :)

There will be another image that features Gabo's hi-res Reach medals and another article talking about what I think should be included in detail. But that won't be for a little while. In February, I'm launching a 4 part series that Fyrewulff has been asking me to post for ages that covers the Halo series' feature set. It'll cover a brief summary of what the feature is intended to do and how I think it can improve. I've got parts 1 and 2 all written up, and I'm making some revisions to part 3 right now, while part 4 is about 40% done. I still need a few images before I post anything though.
