Rumor: The Last of Us 2 in production, launching in 2015

I don't see anything wrong with having a sequel. It's not like it has to be a continuation of Joel and Ellie's storyline. They can take it to a completely different part of America, or even abroad to show how other places have dealt with the outbreak. I think this universe has way too much potential for flexibility to let it be a 'one and done' thing.

As long as it's good I'm all for a sequel. Why anyone would be against a good game being created(assuming this turns out to be a good game of course) is beyond me.

All this time it was so obvious.

I loved TLOU, was my goty but I don't think I can go through all that again. All the emotions again, I don't know if I want that. But what am I saying, there's no chance I'll pass up a ND game, if it comes you know I'll be there day one. I personally think the ending was fine enough for no sequel, but if they can do it again and make it just as good as the first, who could say no? I have faith in ND that they can do it.

Though tbh I really want a ND in space game.

I want to ask one question to those who don't want a sequel - why not?

In my case, it's because I feel like they told a great story with a perfectly satisfying ending, and I don't really need/want to know what happened after
Ellie said ok
. It's as simple as that.

But hey, ND can do whatever they want, I'll be there waiting.

But nothing tells us that this is about Ellie and Joel again. I'm sure there are plenty of other great stories to tell in that universe.

Watch them end up going the prequel route like so many games last gen.

The Last of Us: Origins
The upcoming DLC is their "prequel". I think they'll go with sequel on this. Too early to do spin-offs or prequels.

I hope this is just a rumor. No need for a second game.
Yeah, Naughty Dog should just keep on doing only new IP. Who cares if The Last Of Us sold incredibly well. They should just abandon this potential franchise. It's run its course.

I refuse to believe Naughty Dog will do this. Adding more to a complete story just seems crazy. But then again...money.
Sony/Naughty Dog are in this to make money. As much as they would love to make new IP, when they find a hit, its probably best to count your blessings and make a sequel.

Ho yeah, I thought you were asking why people didn't want a sequel to Ellie and Joel story, specifically. I'm all for TLoU 2, if it's not about them.

Even though I'd like it even better if ND made an entirely new ip.

Yikes. This notion of Uncharted being a 2015 release date is blowing up. How are people seriously coming to this conclusion?
Really wish Naughty Dog would focus on new IPs.

But they just released a new IP 7 months ago...? What developers with successful games jumps from new IP to new IP?

I wouldn't mind another one. I honestly don't mind if they continue with the story from the first game but I can't really see where to go from there. So It would be cool to see what they do with new people.

If Naughty Dog can up the game and do a larger scale story "The Last of Mankind" it would be interesting.

Can't wait loved the first one hopefully they ditch the multiplayer to make the single player longer.

I like how everyone is so homed in on the game title. Personally I'm more interested in which direction they take this hypothetical sequel. I'd be okay with a completely different group of survivors set in the same timeline as the original, or in the future as the older Ellie (with or without Joel). Basically within the same universe as the original but a game that doesn't try to continue the story.

Not sure I understand all the hate.

Its a wonderful setting. A sequel doesn't have to be a continuation of Ellie and Joel. Their story is done. We have this whole setting and the entire world to basically play around with. To say "one and done" is far too shortsighted.

I don't think a direct sequel would blunt the ending TLoU as long as
it either never references the story in the first game directly i.e. it takes place in the same universe but a completely different part of the world, or it leans into the original story hard and directly deals with the consequences of Joel's decision and Elli's acceptance of it; Maybe she's much older and her immunity is passed onto her children, putting them at risk? Maybe both Fireflies and FEDRA find out about Ellie and they tear through Tommy's to get at her, killing most of the people (Joel included) and putting Ellie on the run, etc...

Whatever ND does with the IP, I trust that Druckmann is smart enough to bring us something seriously compelling. I also wouldn't be opposed to TLoU being a one-and-done title.

I don't know why people make fun of the name "The Last of Us 2". It's not the same thing as if "The Last Samurai" got a sequel with a 2 in the name because the last samurai died in the movie.

I don't really agree with that.

Third person open world game with Tommy's community as a starting base with various factions as enemies such as military, fireflies, and gangs. I want a 20 something year old Ellie.
