Resident Evil 2 getting fan HD treatment (If Capcom lets it live)

Capcom will not let this live, and even if they did, this probably wouldn't be a good remake.

Edit: oh, and making it play like Resident Evil 4 is missing the entire point of old-style RE games.

This. IMO the true RE style died with Code Veronica...

I just don't get the love for RE4. I was so disappointed with it :(

Well, that's very much your loss then I guess. It is one of the very best action adventure games ever made. Being able to make such a drastic change and have it work out beautifully also speaks to the talent of the people who made it.

Well, what Resident Evil needed is great controls because tank controls sucks and great controls came with RE4.

With that said, i would love if they remade all Resident Evil games with RE4 controls and view.

I'm glad they came to their senses and halted donations. Capcom would have shut this project down with the quickness if they did that. They now have a chance to succeed. I look forward to what they are going to reveal. I'm glad that they support both the classic camera (RE1-3) and the third person tracking camera (RE4-6)

Goddamnit change this thread title, my mind only reads "Resident Evil 2 getting HD treatment"

Then I see "fan" and I get cancer.

I agree, but the tank controls and camera angles (which could still work in modern-day with less laggy transitions) did provide a certain tension. This is easily remedied by clautrophic level design though I guess, so the RE4 camera does deserve stick around. I'd love a full option for classic angles (was in RE5: Lost in Nightmares as an easter egg) though.

I guess this is the most relevant thread to ask.

If I wanted to play RE2 (and RE3, I guess) for the first time, which would be the ideal format? I have an N64, Dreamcast, PS2, and Gamecube. Is there a good cross-comparison out there?

They are almost identical, except for slightly better image quality. So go with GCN, I guess? But the original PS1 wouldn't hurt either.

For RE2 at least, Dreamcast through a VGA box is a treat and the best way to play it these days imo. Cleanest backgrounds/models, a useful VMU indicator and arguably the best extras (model/art/movie viewer and Nightmare mode). Gamecube is a slightly fancier port of the Playstation version where the Dreamcast based itself off the PC version.

I believe the conclusion that people eventually came to was that yes, the Dreamcast version is the best for RE2 and 3. As far as 2 goes, The DC version is based on the PC port, which had better polygonal models, while the GC port was based on the PS1 Dualshock version.

Edit: Actually, the GC version of 3 might've been the best, because it removed the clipping issues that were in the DC version. I'm not sure if the DC/PC version had improved polygonal models like 2 did, either.

They posted the character selection. Did they use official art?

All they're doing is re-using props and backgrounds from old games. Based on that video, they barely got the character walking and the ''menus'' are cheaply made videos.

Heart's at the right place I'm sure but it ain't gonna make it. Too much work.
