Social media is an amazing tool. I don't understand the hate for it, when really it's just certain people using it that are causing any grief you may have from it, and you can block them all if you so choose...

I haven't touched FB in years, might be a good idea to delete it. It did come in handy that one time I forgot my phone at a friend's tho.

I use it as a promotional tool for business and keeping in touch with extended family. It’s very effective as a tool, I’m not sure why people try to get more from it than that, or are effected by using it to the point where they need to delete their accounts. It just isn’t that big a deal lol.

So I deleted Facebook and Twitter a year ago and never looked back. Feels great.

Strong username to post contradiction.

I fully agree with your sentiment though as I'm all about face to face as opposed to Facebook because its the whole simulation and simulacra thing in full effect thanks to the magic of the pretended life that only exists in others heads that some are so pleased to flaunt and be associated with and all of the negative overspill into real life that comes with it.

Crazy thing about all of this though is that fake has became the new real therefore peoples internal compasses have already shifted and a world full of people that know not their anus from their elbow means that Idiocracy is looking more and more like a future documentary than a comedy film :/

I've never had a proper Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc account.
I only use a few forums. I don't feel as though I'm missing out.

I thought the rule was, you only read Social media when you are on the toilet. Seems like you need to get some medicine to get you out of there quicker.

Honestly, I guess I don't understand leaving social media, I just glance at it maybe once or twice a day for 5 min or so. Are people actually spending hours interacting throughout the whole day? Maybe since I'm older it's not a big part of my life like younger people who grew up with it would be.

I'm curious, for those who have had/has and/or use/d Twitter, Facebook, etc -

How different do you think the world would be if non of them got above the ground and took hold or were never invented to begin with (and we stuck to only forums/chat/blog)? I myself was invited by friends to join them on Myspace back in '04/'05 and I just couldn't muster the interest in it but seeing this thread and recent events I wonder what others would think if non of it ever came into being.

Would we be better off overall?

I'm unfortunatly forced to use facebook since I play various card games and most of discussions moved to crappy facebook groups from forums for some masochistic reason.

I guess I can blame millenials for that :D

I think social media is not a waste of time when you control the intensity of usage. I look when I have time for that, ıf I don't have time I'm not looked to anything. For me, it's that simple. I do not use Facebook anyway, but some platforms such as Twitter convenient for reaching daily agenda (I have not been using TV for 10 years). I think the usefulness of using something is based on the self-control mechanism of a person.

Reddit is anonymous so it is more like GAF, just much bigger.

I feel like all social media can be anonymous. Just don't use any real information. Too many businesses have switched over to Facebook for their websites that you kind of have to have a basic account to look up information. My favorite tap room posts all of their upcoming beers on their social media page. I just use a dummy account to track that stuff. According to Facebook I am currently attending the Xavier school for gifted individuals in New York.

I have a Twitter account (not under my real name) and I don't really have any use for it. I find Twitter interface to be clunky and annoying and I am not selling anything and I am not a celebrity.

I deleted my facebook account many years ago because I had no use for it - I don't like putting any information about me for other people to see. Also friend requests from people who I barely knew were annoying and refusing them felt kinda awkward.

Also, I am busy in real life and when I am online I want to be anonymous and relax. With social media under you real name you always have to watch what you say.

I have a one strike and you're out policy for people posting bollocks on Facebook. Ending up blocking so many people that Facebook ran out of shit to show my newsfeed so now I just get links for click-bait sites and wank celebrities I don't give a fuck about. Fucking Facebook... But, I use Messenger to keep in touch with the fam as i'm overseas right now.

Hate Facebook. Hate Twitter. Ok with Instagram and YouTube cause the outdoor shit I like uses that to show off gear and diy stuff. Only have a few accounts and never use them.

I've been a social media hater since the days of Myspace.

The internet should be an alternate universe, an escape from your normal life, to try to combine the two is missing the whole point and it's no wonder it's all ending in disaster.

Meh, I respect that but as an artist social media is too big of an income stream and I like keeping up with family.

Ah, so you are an anti social person who is screaming at and feeling superior than others for using a tool that helps with social activities.

I mean, more power to you if all you ever do is stay home and sit on your couch watching Netflix, but let the people that enjoy doing activities and being social be social.

...(Bachta sth, rooftop parties), just drank with friends in public ...

sounds like he has a normal and healthy social life. You forgot your meds?

not tag worthy
I use Instagram to post my photos Facebook to keep in touch with family/friends and Twitter to moan about train companies.

I have for most part tried to steer clear of the echo chamber.

Tbh I will keep them all but post less

I have snap chat but honestly the UI is shit and I don’t see the point of it

Sometimes the best thing I can day is not stare at my phone and disconnect for a few hours

I am completely not anonymous online, I work in security but don't disclose what company/companies I work for, and I know my bosses don't give a flying fuck what I say outside of work (And even then at work I wind up talking about guns half the time with everyone anyhow so my online discussions are pretty much 1:1 with my real life discussions)

Hell, one of my bosses makes me look pretty liberal.

I have facebook and twitter but I use it mainly for reading local happenings and buying stuff like used games. Anything personal I keep it off the social media.
