• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

The Epic Games Store and PC Client is getting a redesign soon. Profiles, patch notes, coupons, cross-region gifting, and more.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Will you be able to scan your computer for previously installed games? That feature is sorely needed.

The EA app also needs that.

I've seen that asked for a lot, and I imagine they're probably going to incorporate as much feedback as possible. So - maybe!

without easy family sharing, at least on the same PC, I will still never buy a single game on that store 🤷 pretty simple.

I only buy on Steam, GoG and Xbox Store for that exact reason.
I'm not buying multiple copies just so another profile can play the game on the same damn PC or handheld.

the speedup is nice tho I guess... allowing me to claim the free games a bit faster than before 🤣

Good.
I only have limited experience with the Epic Store, but every time I've used it my laptop has felt like it was struggling to run it (the fans spin faster when I'm on the launcher than in the actual games) .
Also for some reason it was constantly requiring me to login again (with the whole 2 factor authentication) which was annoying as fuck.

I poke fun of them from time to time, but I appreciate there being more storefronts in the PC gaming landscape.
I poke fun of them (a lot) mostly because it feels like they just threw together a storefront with extremely barebone features and called it a day. Now it looks like they're actually going to start focusing on better usability and QoL improvements, so I'm excited about that.

As long as the cost of the redesign doesn't eat into the free games for bender bender budget, fine. Otherwise, I'll take barebones.

They still don't have player profiles or reviews 😂. How can you run a platform/storefront for so long and still not have the most basic features. And Tim Sweeney wants to cry about not being able to compete with Steam, sheesh.

Considering the issue of review bombing and dogpiling that keeps happening around the internet, they're probably still looking for better ways to implement it.

That's my hopeful thought at least.

Epic, Microsoft, Sony etc will never have forums or reviews other than a rating system. They don't want to deal with that cesspool.

Xbox has had manually written reviews in their store for ages.

I read "cross-region gifting" as "grifting" and was thinking that Tim Epic really upped the game here… 😉

Edit: I really don't trust Epic or their Anti-Cheat though. I still remember they got caught scanning people's systems.

It really is an underrated feature.

It's a decent list...but they should've had most of these features years ago.

People meme Valve does nothing and wins, but Steam literally adds new features at a higher cadence than any of these other competitors, and do it with a pittance amount of employees.

I'm not a customer of Epic, but I'm all for them improving their storefront.

It's telling that they didn't even have patch notes before, but at least that's being fixed.

Even if they accomplished complete feature parity with Steam, why would I ever give a hoot when I already own so many games on Steam? I dunno what they could even do to earn my business. Maybe I need Tim Sweeney to agree with a bunch of my posts on NeoGAF.com because that's how TintoConCasera TintoConCasera earned my business.

I mean the does nothing thing I think is just doing it without making a huge deal. Just a blog post, feature rollout and goes on about their day.

It really does feel like they do nothing but just improve while everyone fumbles the bag over and over. Epic and EA had literally every chance to do SOMETHING but they just manage to repulse everyone with cheaper games which is hilarious.

We got Fortnite Chunked Installation before a proper UI like brrruuuhhhhh :/

Sometimes I don't even read your post before pressing Like. ✌️ :lollipop_content:

I now have more games on Epic than on Steam. Not that I use it often, but it's still weird.

Puscifer Puscifer Oh idunno. At least Epic Store works properly most of the time, and they give away free games and have pretty good sales, and they publish and help pay for some games and ports in return for exclusivity or timed exclusivity.

Whereas EA launcher has absolutely nothing going for it. It's the worst lol, it's below Xbox, below Rockstar, below Ubisoft, below Epic

Oh yeah, also what they did that got me was give away Total War Troy for free to get me to install it, and then get the Kingdom Hearts ports and NEO TWEWY and FF7 Remake :pie_thinking: which I bought all of them.

Yeah, the does nothing thing is also when they don't choose to enshittify their platform, and just keep what people already like the same if they can't improve it.

The only other competitor worth a damn is GoG. They have DRM-free, they bring back or make old games work on modern hardware/OSs, their games have self-installers that can install with no internet, their launcher has extensive game library filtering/sorting options, they can easily bring in games from other storefronts, they have user reviews and discussion forums...and they do that with probably the tiniest budget of them all (barring probably itch.io).

All the corpo launchers (EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft, Microsoft) and Epic still just suck at adding features, and act like Valve only wins because of their first-mover advantage...when they each take forever to do basic things.

8 years of one of the worst UIs on the market.
Taking bets that this is entirely vibe-coded and will perform accordingly

Lol, I only got 2 things on my wishlist, End of Abyss and Gen ATLUS which are exclusive to the storefront on pc. Glad that LOTF2 cancel their contract with EPIC
