Take-Two CEA: Zelnick - Audience for our console and PC games could be 10X or more the size of the business today because of streaming services

Zelnick - "with our optimism about streaming services over the next three years, we think the audience for our console and PC games could be 10X or more the size of the business today.

"So, expecting a massive cloud push over next 3 years"

I thought all RAM and SSD was used towards AI? Do they suddenly have enough to expand cloud gaming to millions of gamers worldwide?

Big difference between wanting something and getting their way. I remember one publisher telling us that the PS4 was just going to be a streaming box.

NFT
Metaverse/VR
Ai

Out of those they still hammer Ai into our heads (the rest failed). So it's is possible to resist something like that but I doubt gamers will... when GTA7 will be on cloud (only).

Streaming games isn't like streaming video. The global Internet infrastructure is simply not there. Stadia failed for a reason. I would give it 10 years AT LEAST.

Agree, this once again is playing to shareholders who probably got rock hard seeing big number and just thinking of the potential for money, but theyre stupid and out of touch.

When given a choice, most are not going to choose streaming over what we have now.

GeforceNow is pretty impressive.... I find myself using it when playing games on my Rog Ally X or my iPad and I don't want to obliterate the battery in 30 minutes.

While it is impressive, it cannot handle more than a fraction of a PlayStation userbase, or a Switch userbase. And it's probably not profitable, otherwise nVidia would have said so. Not to mention the experience is wildly variable for people across the world.

It's a side project they may stop caring about at some point TBH.

Geforce Now VS a high end local PC with a good monitor introduces very noticable input lag and reduced image quality. Apple devices are somehow worse. Probably because you are forced using Safari.

They are all the same, do they come in 12 packs?

When playing on a 1080p handheld screen it's pretty good... and much easier on the battery. But I get it.

That was always going to be the end game. Players own nothing, piracy is impossible and publishers and platform owners have full control over where, when, how and for what price people can access their games.

Yea In handheld where all the artifacts and graphical glitches can be hidden better. On a bigger screen it doesn't compare to it running locally. Even with a good connection.

I agree it isn't THAT bad. The bad thing about people using it is just like the article. "20 bucks a month isn't that bad". And when (hopefully if) it goes mainstream and you have no other option, they will treat you like a slow boiling frog, with price increases and limitations (GFN already have a 100 hours limit). I wouldn't be surprised if the Ultimate subscription reaches 100 bucks at some point. Can't afford it? Do with the low end 20 bucks offer.

I dont know man.........GeForce Now and PS Streaming is almost impeccable.

I mean, people were saying that there is no infrastructure for digital only consoles, and yet - here we are (and Sony doesn't give a shit about many countries).

So we already have internet connections good for game streaming (if we can download 200GB games with zero issues).

You gotta keep in mind their stock price is based on growth, so once GTA 6 launches and GTA Online 2 or whatever they have PROBABLY maximized how much money they'll ever be able to make on consoles.

So he has to tell investors there's some new big thing coming, since their money printing machine has limits, and those limits will stall or crash the stock price.

This idiot is sounding just like thoe AI execs... WE WILL GROW 10X! Why? Because im saying so!

And as always, shared by Mr fredricksen, who loves to suck those companies, generate flame war and pose as victim.

This is kind of ignoring a few things. Latency doesn't matter for digital downloads and digital downloads don't require massive GPU/CPU power for every single person downloading.

Game streaming is like if a customer was just constantly digitally downloading massive games while playing + having to run that all on a server that can't be too far away.

And the experience can be incredibly variable due to latency. You could build up a collection on a service, move to a new place, and suddenly your experience is worsened because your new ISP's routing to the DC sucks or any number of factors.

Digital downloads also grew as people had higher bandwidth connections, there is very little room for latency improvements to be solved. It's literal physics.

Exactly, and investors are chronic pre-ejaculators. A big number is like waving a big raw piece of steak at a dog.

That's true, but they already have the infrastructure and they know how to do it, they just need to grow and expand it (then force people to use it).

My experience from Xbox free streaming:

Cyberpunk 2077 ran better and more complete on launch on GFN than on console but "Big Physical Media" doesn't want you to know that...
Doom Eternal Version on Stadia was also better than on consoles.

My experience from Xbox free streaming:

Xcloud stream is 1080p some games support 1440p but only for Ultimate tier.

They also need to figure out how to actually make it profitable. By all accounts it's not, and in fact is heavily subsidized. Microsoft for instance barely even uses Azure for their game streaming despite people assuming they do. They have to rent server space far more locally and are in the "spend loads of money to try to get something to take off" phase.

And if it does take off, scaling doesn't really save you money. This is not like video streaming where adding a single customer just means a touch more bandwidth is used.

They are just adding a massive cost to their business that people haven't shown much willingness to pay a lot for. A game streamer is a bit like someone who sits around on a flat ChatGPT plan generating images all day burning OpenAI's cash.

I told you they want to push cloud. Enjoy your local digital versions while you can, lol.
Doesn't matter what they want. All that matters is what consumers buy. Cloud streaming has been a complete failure so far, and not for lack of trying.

Also, game streaming is a huge cost to the provider. Not the same with direct downloads vs physical distribution, which straight up saves them money.

I think they will just force people to use it by abandoning physical hardware with local CPU/GPU, memory and NAND. You want to play PS7 games? Streaming is your only option.

I'm all for this for giant budget console style games. It's the only way we're getting a generational tech leap in the next decade for a big budget game. Indies and AA will keep my gaming PC fed. I'd much rather stream TLOU3 developed to run on a 5090 than the 4060 version we'd be stuck with in traditional means.

Not all games, just the big flashy popcorn AAAA stuff.

I don't think this is happening, at all.

I don't even know what your point is. Forcing people to stream is not going to solve the cost problem, it'll just multiply it.
