haven't been keeping up with the reviews... like, at all... but i'm slightly optimistic about the movie. as optimistic as you could be about a ninja turtle movie in 2014. i'm just worried about what they'll do with the human characters' stories. nothing against megan fox but it seems like a miscast

then again, i thought Transformers 1 was enjoyable nonsense so...

I love how in that second shot Megan Fox is clearly looking at something just above Splinter's head and not him directly.

Either the result of HORRIBLE direction, or more proof that she cannot act.

I say its a mixture of both...

Or, you know... they put the marker in the wrong spot.

Would this be bad? I mean the Turtles movie is for the kids, I have no problem with it doing well at all. The dick measuring there is a little weird. I kind of like that such an old IP for kids is still alive and kicking.

I almost want to see TMNT beat GotG in box office just so we have a chance to see all the marvel fans here freak the fuck out, because god knows we haven't already had enough threads in this last week about marvel movies.

....but the movies don't share an opening week? I don't really get it.

hmmm, it's definitely possible, but I'll say GOTG wins with like a $42m weekend and TMNT second with $39m.

Whoa...the budget for this movie is only $125m??
Seems pretty low for a movie with CG characters.

Even the first couple movies with CG characters in major roles (Casper, Dragonheart) had dead average budgets.

You know you don't have to read the threads right?
It's more about the several similar MCU threads crowding up the first page in OT, but I'm hopeful that catch-MCU thread will help alleviate the issue. If only that would also help with all the threadshitting in the Batman v Superman thread...

For the overreacting and salty comments of course.

As usual, I was not disappointed. I was entertained.

uh huh...

Yeah there was a ton of marvel threads huh?

Can't have another movie doing better B.O. than the latest Mahvel hotness, that might disrupt the narrative!

Sure did seem like it, though maybe that's just my perceiving it to be that way. Could also just be tons of comic book movie-related shit happening right now.

I'll probably end up seeing a TMNT matinee this weekend. Then I'll see GOTG again. Live it up folks, movies are fun!

Maybe Boyhood in the evening as well.

Even if that happens, it's not going to create the drama you crave. We grew up on Turtles, plus there is this Michael Bay wizardry of making stuff sell despite offending our erm critical sensibilities.

Didn't know so many people owned stock in Disney lately with all the Marvel grandstanding going on. I hope TMNT is successful, if for no other reason than it continues to expand the brand and we get more turtles. A lot of people don't like these designs or the new direction, but the great thing about the franchise is how it has so many different incarnations, there's something for everyone. Guardians of the Galaxy isn't in danger of TMNT beats it this weekend.

But I crave it so, it nourishes me with delicious schadenfreude!
it must be said I really liked GotG and would prefer it to continue doing as well as it has

I hope this movie does well. The old Turtle movies are childhood favourites, but I want something new and those are not it anymore. Plus, as long as there are sequels, there is a chance for improvement. I liked the trailer, and it's going to take a lot to really sour me on this movie. It's been too long since live action Turtles. I'm sure this does well overall, but it seems a lot of people are intent to hate on it. Transformers, Days of Future Past, and Maleficent are the top three movies on the Box Office this year. Here's to hoping the international box office makes TMNT join them up there...until that Hunger Games movie comes and kills everyone not named Optimus Prime.

But there is time until then. Go ninja, go ninja go. I want TMNT2 and TMNT3 within a few years.

I'm way more excited for Ninja Turtles.
Guardians was ok mainly because Rocket, Groot and Drax were hilarious but the rest of the movie was average.
Turtles will be an awful movie but the Turtles themselves will be just as funny as Rocket/Groot/Drax and the action in Turtles will be way better.

Fuck the haters, Turtles is gonna be a fun summer blockbuster and I'm looking forward to it.

Interested but id rather see GOTG again. I am a huge tmnt fan but the trailers show it with the new "really!?" as a punchline kind of humor and that shit makes me sick. I might see it next weekend or wait for dvd.

Living up to your username, huh?

kidding!

Because people are tired of the Michael Baycation of their childhood memories.

What a worthy cause!

Maybe you should leave your childhood memories in your childhood because they aren't as good as you want to remember them.

Oh no let's not let Michael bay ruin the memories of the shitty cartoons I used to watch as a child that served no purpose other than to get me to buy more action figures!

Calm down, Captain Cynical.

This whole childhood memories, raped my childhood crap has always been fucking idiotic and over-dramatic. At best. Then you have a decent director like Abrams doing Star Wars VII and as soon as people heard that the original characters were returning (which makes logical, narrative sense), it goes from childhood rape to nostalgia pandering. People are hysterical.

JJ Abrams would NEVER pander at nostalgic childhoods, ever.

I'm just saying it makes sense for those characters to be back and no one has seen how its being handled or written, and have already declared it as nostalgia pandering. So even when a decent director and what is very likely a lot better than say Transformers or even this movie could possibly doing something justice, it's pandering to peoples' childhoods.

So either you've got "he's raping my childhood!" or "he's just pandering to my nostalgia." I'm not sure how they can win.

I'm gonna guess:

Guardians of the Galaxy Fri-Sun: 51 mil
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fri-Sun: 43 mil.

too high for gotg, 45ish is more likely

Turtles could be anywhere from 40-60 hard to call with poor reviews, seemingly review proofness of bay, its a reeboot but such a llong time since the last live action turtles.

maybe means alot of time spent on the humans?

I had never heard of Into the Storm until about two weeks ago when the ads started showing on TV. It looks like a nice visual show, but that is it.

No, I agree with a world where soulless cash grabs are excised for quality.

What would this movie have had to do differently in order to not be seen as a soulless cash grab to you?

It's a Ninja Turtles movie. Just like with any other franchise, it's there to make money and give people entertainment. They call it mutual gain.
