I still think Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music are among the best movies ever made, largely because Julie Andrews was more than human. She was a force of nature, a frame of mind.

Not really looking forward to this since they plan to keep the same kids (now grown up). If it was a new family I'd be happier about it. Then again, if they're going by the books (which I haven't read) then presumably there's a decent story to tell.

They aren't going by the books - the books are all about the Banks kids while they are still kids, while this is about them grown up. However, the movie could in theory use some of the tales from the books and just insert the new child characters in where the Banks kids were before.

Ehh, the casting seems fine, but I'm not sure about the music. The original music was composed by the amazing Sherman Brothers. The charming and timeless quality of their music is quite difficult to top.
I'll be impressed if at least one of the newer songs manage to enter 'Feed The Birds' tier.


Also, who the fuck can top Dick Van Dyke? That man's dancing is still incredible to watch, and of course his charming as hell demeanor.

Well damn. That's exactly what I was hoping wouldn't happen. Remake, fine. Following the books, fine. Making up a non-book sequel where the Banks kids grow up in depressing ways? Ugh. If the books left the rest of their lives open to imagination, so should the movie.
