rapegazewave is definitely so #2011 (via #2010)

laurel halo is great. and definitely not \/\/|+<h H/\|_|s.

i already tore up fools for that "2010" bs!

but yes, laurel halo is probably my favorite new artist from the past few years. she's fucking talented and doesn't seem to have any particular niche. I got completely blind-sided by hour logic. Doesn't seem like she's another one EP wonder from brooklyn and could go far, but if I had a nickel for every time I've said that about some novel brooklyn artist...

PG 3 we did it! Go go

i bet agent francis york morgan likes witch house. he seems the type.

also, MΔRRI$ has a triangle and a dollar sign, but he is not witch house. his stuff is good too though.

The Warning (is this track using a silent hill sample?)

In the track "Bodie" from †‡†(Ritualz) they use fucking speech samples from The Wire, the best show ever.

This music be crazy, yo.

also, i know Salem gets a lot of shit (for being rednex or something) but i really like this video and song: King Knight it makes sense in a bleak, i live in michigan and it sucks but trucks are cool kind of way.

that gatekeeper track i posted last page has a diablo 2 sample in it.

ghetto ass witch is still available for $15 shipped. now i feel dumb for assuming it sold out and paying $22 instead:

edit: wait, it lets me add 999 to the cart...its limited to 100, so maybe the stock counter is off. Or it's another "limited" indie release where the artist has no problem printing off more haha

i know, i really should never attempt to photoshop (mspaint) things

"wanted to reserve an album coming out...the name is just five "o"s"

"Five-O's?"

"Yep."

"Don't see anything for 'Five-0s'"

"not like the phrase 'five-0s' like cops, just five of the letter 'o'"

"oh"

"yeah"

I thought we stopped trying to call shit witch house like a year and a half ago?

It got to the point that it only described:

-Disparate goth-y acts that sound nothing alike.

-Anybody inspired by Burial, because we're not allowed to call that dubstep in these post-brostep days.

-Bandwagoners and pranksters making bad darkwave under illegible titles.

It's one of those genres that isn't a genre, like Mysterious Guy Hardcore. There is only the illusion of genre because of a legion of bad GarageBand pranksters.

Alright, I'm done whining. That White Ring EP, huh? Goddamn.
only witch house knows what witch house is, so deep bruh.

Grimes is playing Pitchfork this year. Youth Lagoon tonight at the Metro.

The pitchfork line up is awesome this year, but with everything i like on different days, so i'm hoping some of these guys play around the city around that time. I'm just not as much of a show monster these days, unless it's some shit I haven't heard of for free at an apartment i'm already in :(

cmon son

don't worry about the genre labels

I just don't like when some "genre" starts covering anything and everything under the sun. It makes some good work get crushed under the weight of a perceived fad.

I'm convinced Holy Other would be way bigger if people didnt call them witch house, for example.

Just how human beings operate man. We like to compare new shit to other existing shit and in this blog controlled music world, it's inevitable. We're not [insert genre here] is the new we don't sound like [insert band here].

holy other is playing pitchfork! the genre label could not have hurt that bad. Tri-Angle records is doing a good job of moving on and away from the "witch house" label. I didn't even wanna put Clams Casino in this thread...

but usually when a super small artist can't catch a break, its because they won't put shit for effort into promoting themselves and/or they underrate the hell out of themselves. It's an endemic problem.

but this is out of my expertise. i just sacrifice animals and don't afraid of anything.

Demos are enough to get pretty big if they get to the right ears.

But hey! I already called myself out for just whining. WHITE RING DUDE. Never got over that EP.

For awhile last year, as I was spiraling back into WoW, I would play the White Ring EP and oOoOO on repeat.

Haha! I own that Rainforest EP on CD and Vinyl! I was kinda pissed last year how EVERY fucking year end list kept listing Clams' instrumental mixtape in top 50 but no word about Rainforest EP which is superior. I've said it a bunch of times in various threads on GAF but If I ever off myself, "Drowning" will be the song they find on repeat in my room:

Love this track. Effing love it, but yea, Clams has no place in this thread.

totally agreed the ep > instrumentals. very salty about missing the release date of instrumentals though. dude collaborated with Lil B apparently, yadda, yadda, yadda, instrumentals is $50 a copy. same thing happened with the See Birds EP after one of Balam Acab's songs was used in a L'Oreal commercial (if you didn't know that...yeah, that totally fucking happened haha)

"Gorilla" is gonna play right after the song "King Night" during the apocalypse

Super cool to see a witch house thread. Love this genre. Thanks for flying the flag, guys.

Just checked out Grimes. The obnoxiously high pitch vocals just aren't doing it for me. I like everything else about it though. /shrug

Any other recommendations for the genre? I like nice female vocals. :P

Edit: I liked that Clams Casino track alot. :)
