Plane Escape Torment
Movie was good but protagonist destroying space ship minutes after discovering aliens was bs.
The movie was great! Amazing acting!
The end part....well, it was a bit meh. The best part was the giant spaceship with the lightnings in the end.
I would make it like this (the original ending was close):
- Michelle comes out of the bunker
- Everything seems normal
- Drives to get home
- Reaches the top of a hill
- Stops her car and looks in disbelief
- Everything in sight was being destroyed\ was destroyed
- A giant, monsters dark continent ending type of giant or the mist giant, monster walks casually above what once was a city
Question: When Howard confessed to crashing into Michelle's car in the opening, he said that he was frantic or something because he was rushing to his bunker after hearing of an incoming attack. As far as I remember, no one questioned him on this and the movie just moved on. I'm going to assume that he was telling the truth because that would be an incredibly BS lie for a movie so how could Howard have known that?
if i remember correctly Emmet watched the attack as well, so he rushed to the bunker because he knew about it since he helped Howard buld it.
Emmet said that he saw a giant red explosion that looked sci fi and then rushed to the bunker. He said that he fought his way in or something (which is why his arm was broken) but I think that all took place after Howard ran Michelle off the road. Howard seems to have known before the red explosion.
i think that Howard being an ex-militar had connections also he worked on satellite stuff so maybe he saw something while working in the past thats why he started prepping
Got the chance to watch it yesterday, it came out last week in Italy and where I live they were showing it in just one cinema out of like 7 around an area of 100 km... It's really being distributed like shit here, and even where it's available it will probably gone today (so after SIX DAYS) because today is Civil War time...
Anyway, I somehow managed to avoid every possible spoiler, and eventually really, really enjoyed the movie.
The actors were insanely good (Goodman should definitely win an award for his astonishing performance, he was just so believable and creepy), I loved the pacing and the fact that the development of the story was just totally unpredictable: you could never tell what would happen in the next 5 minutes or so, and I was honestly amazed and thrilled by the overall atmosphere.
You don't know whether you should trust Howard or not (I mean despite his obnoxious behavior and his weird ways), and I was deeply fascinated by the unnerving situation of the bunker.
As for the last part... The whole alien thing was definitely unexpected and probably a bit rushed (and honestly the molotov part was even a bit too much in its cheap action flick resolution), but nevertheless I still enjoyed it, A LOT.
I loved the original Cloverfield and I secretly sort of hoped the monster would show up, to actually create a meaningful connection between the two movies, but even as it is I was certainly impressed, to the point that I've been thinking about 10 Cloverfield Lane since I left the theater yesterday night, LOL.
Would love a part 3 now, Bad Robot nailed it once again.
A little LTTP here but I thought it was a great movie overall but I have reservations about how they obviously just slapped the Cloverfield "brand" on it.
It would have been a better movie without that. As it is it just ended up miffing me that practically nothing about the first movie was expanded in this one.

yikes just finished watching this.... I must say it's pretty clear the original intent of this movie wasn't an alien/monster Cloverfield "sequel."
The rumors of the rights to this film being bought and then adding the monsters to the end is probably true. It's a solid film but the ending was incredibly cheesy.
The third movie will apparently make the connections more apparent.I just assumed the monster from the first film was an allien and then when he woke up Earth got invaded. Do you guys think it's not related to the first movie at all?

Didn't know there was a thread for this. Saw it two weeks ago, and it was one of the worst movies I've seen in awhile. Would've been great from the get-go if it was a cat n mouse game.
That doesn't really resolve Michelle's character arc. This was posted a few pages back, if people haven't come across it yet.
For a moment, when Michelle first removes her makeshift gas mask and learns that Howard was wrong about the poisonous air, it seems like the movie might end on a note of relief, and the promise that her problems are over. But that would be facile, and would also mean that Michelle had been in a standard slasher movie, where arbitrarily bad things happen to random people, and nothing much is learned.
But just escaping Howard doesn’t solve the problem, because Michelle hasn’t really made a choice: She’s been driven by unavoidable circumstances. Her first actual choice, and the resolution of her arc, comes in the film’s final shot, when she decides to drive to Houston, to fight the alien invasion, rather than to Baton Rouge, to hole up in the "safe zone." That’s a definitive ending. But it’s meaningless if she hasn’t already faced off against the aliens, at least enough to understand the stakes, and commit to her decision in a meaningful way. If her only fights have been the ones against Howard that she didn’t choose for herself, there’s no reason to believe she won’t just run again, as soon as she sees how frightening the alien threat is.
Finally someone I agree with. Saw it with a friend, no idea what to expect. At the end I was like "the f did I just watch"Didn't know there was a thread for this. Same. What a total waste of time. First time in a long while I disagree with a good RT scored movie. It's basically the movie Misery with throwaway, C-grade movie aliens in the end as a twist. I can easily see the studio intervening in the script and making Howard a more evil, ambiguous character than he needed to be (like him shooting Emmet, the acid vat, anger issues, etc). It's obvious as hell. One scene he's nice daddy person the second he's a maniac fucker. The edits are too clear. It's so painfully obvious that they were trying to make Howard a plain bad guy so once Michelle escapes his bunker, she's a HERO and AWESOME. The ridiculous molotov cocktail attack at the end is so bad. Of course the alien keeps opening it's anusmouth conveniently every 10 seconds for humans to lob fire in there. It's like they played Contra and re-wrote the script.Didn't know there was a thread for this. Saw it two weeks ago, and it was one of the worst movies I've seen in awhile. Those last 10 mins what a great way to ruin a good film, awful. Movie should've just ended after she escapes she takes off her air helmet thingy and waves to the helicopter for help, which turns out to be an alien heli ended it there. But they went beyond that, ending up Independence Day action sequence, felt like a whole completely different film. ugh
God this cover is so trash

Just saw this while browsing Amazon and yeah most marketing teams continue to be shit or just simply indifferent to how their covers look.
