If the film turns out to be good, will the story behind its production really matter?
For some, yes. Some people may go to the movies and just don't care but there are actually some people out there who are interested in film production.

I suspect a lot of film experts are mad they got tricked by Abrams and had no idea this was happening thus the charges of late production switcheroos.

There's a difference between being interested in film production and shitting up threads with a post like this:

It's a script that they bought that had nothing to do with Cloverfield and they'll shoehorn in the monster at like the end or something.

You've added nothing to the discussion except you get to feel good about yourself for being a smug asshole.

I still remember watching Cloverfield and somehow thinking it was the Seven Hour War from Half-Life, for a moment.
Could be a good sequel! Nice to see it's not relying on handy-cam format again.

It was so cool to see what the monster finally looked like at the end of the film

Really interesting. I remember the ARG for the original movie and trying to piece together what the monster was and where it came from, something about a Japanese slushi company and deep sea fracking if I recall correctly. I wonder if this movie will illuminate anything from the first.

I really hope that there's no monster, and that the movie has absolutely no connection to the first Cloverfield.

I mean I'm fine with neither of those being the case, but that's what I'm hoping for.

The movie title has Cloverfield in it sooo

It was a Cloverfield movie very early in production. Abrams said it himself.

Yea..."early in production." This was after the script and story was written and lots of people read it and was bought by Paramount. After the script was sold and Abrams production house got involved they saw an opportunity to tie it in with Cloverfield.

So "shoehorning" is completely appropriate for what happened here. That's not saying it's a bad thing necessarily, that's just how it happened in reality.

You can only say that if you have evidence that the rewriting and reshaping of the story to accommodate Cloverfield elements was done in a lackluster, careless manner with a shortage of time in which to do it.

That seems to absolutely not be the case. "Early in production" still allows for pleeeeenty of time for rewrites and rewrites of rewrites before the film begins shooting, not to mention the year the film had in post production.

There's plenty to discuss in that and is there proof that what I said was wrong? I'm pretty excited for the film as I liked the first one. The trailer's pretty decent and could be interesting as long as it doesn't become too predictable. Not a huge fan of you calling me a smug asshole but whatever.

Edit: why do people think that shoehorning is necessarily a bad thing? If it works, it works.

The term "shoehorning" doesn't come with positive connotations. If you're using that word, you're talking the film down.

Guys, you are forgetting the most important prospect....

When the film is out, we might have another Star Trek Beyond trailer!

:D

Goddammit, I wasn't taking it seriously when it was just the one guy, but now there's multiple people saying it.

Haha. At any rate it's definitely not the roar of the monster from Cloverfield as in the first movie.. Like people speculated in that first trailer thread, I think this'll end with
a shot of whatever city destroyed and the corpse of the monster, or some other brief glimpse at most
. Even that initial poster suggests John Goodman is the monster in this movie.

I got my first look at this movie during previews before Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (not my choice, but it was...okay). It looks interesting, and I want to see it now.

Whatever the end of the trailer is, it isn't the monster. It's not just gonna glow like that. Looks like something in the house.

lol, I suggest you research this movie - they shoe-horned the cloverfield brand into already planned movie. It was well into production when they did this.

Nobody gives a fuck! Why are you trying to ruin people's excitement for the movie with your "facts"

This happens with so many films in the industry it'd make your head spin.

Hate to break it to you, but this is a common thing that happens in film development. It in no way is an inherently negative thing either.

I thought Cloverfield was just okay. I don't really have an opinion or expectations for this movie, but the defense force for it is really strange.

OK, so why would there be light coming from the monster? Do we think it has some kind of special ability aside from being incredibly durable?

I don't think that's the monster. I think it's a helicopter or something. Authorities appear to be descending upon the house for whatever reason.
