UniqueAuction.com in mid-March plans to auction off 10 Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles, company officials told TechWeb.

The Sony Playstation 3 is expected to launch officially in the U.S in six to 12 months.

It's pretty simple to follow.

It looks for the highest, yet most unique bid. So if 50 people bit $700 on an item (and that's the highest anyone bids), but only 40 people bit $695 (and more than 40 people bid on every possible bid below $695), then $695 is the highest unique bid for that auction.

Unique as in fewer people chose that bid. It was a more rarest bid people ma de.

Now that $695 is known as the most unique bid, the first person out of the 40 who actually bid that $695 wins that auction.

Suppose that 50 people bid $700...but only 38 bid $585 and more than 38 people every other possible bid ($5 increments)....the $585 would be the most unique high bid...and the first person who bid $585 first would be the winner.

The "most unique highest bid" in this case would be $43.05, not $7.45 because that is lower than $43.05, and not $49.99 because it is less unique than $43.05 (150 bids to 7 bids). In a case where the winning bid is not entirely "unique", in this case 7 bidders, then the winner is the one that placed their bid first. So it does pay to get your bid in early!

Crappy auction/lottery idea aside, this thread reminded me that I need to raise some capital to buy and eBay a few PS3s. I know after the 360 fiasco many people will take up the idea as well, but the Sony hype should be considerably more, I think.

He we sent a q7a to these gusy to see what exactly was up with the auction and it turns out one of the winners does get the PS3 unit early

Now, to clear up any confusion, will the winner’s units be sent out pre-release as the story stated?

We will have one advanced copy of the PS3 that will be sent out to the winner, all other auctions won before the official launch date will guarantee the winners a PS3 upon its release.
