100+ hours of Destiny has shown me the true enemy.

WoW vanilla content sucked too. Did you run Maraudon early on? Did you try Molten Core before it was patched into oblivion? Destiny has been out for 4 weeks and is intended to last for years give them a chance to improve on the core we have now.

BTW: I HIGHLY enjoyed my first run in the Vault of Glass - I was very impressed with how much fun it was for an FPS.

At least vanilla WoW had content.

Yes. Destiny is a game that respects that people have lives and can't spend 6 hours per day on it. Log on, knock off the daily, a public event and as many bounties as possible and you've gotten most of the real progress done for that day. Play some crucible if you have time, you can get a good reward even if hardcore players own you. Come weekend when you're off work, do the weekly strikes, buy something from Xur if you can, and do the raid if you're 26+. Come back next week for new challenges.
Nearly perfect game for people who are in that broad spectrum of gamers somewhere in between hardcore and casual.

But I assume you are implying it doesn't respect the in-game time spent by those who have poured the most hours into it.

How would continuing to allow you to make progress after doing the Daily and some bounties not be respecting your time? You make it seem like restricting progress IS respecting our time.

Nobody answered my question, so I'll ask it one more time.

Is there anybody that thinks Destiny respects our time.

Bungie quotes the 1.x hours a day per player figure like they're proud of it. How much progress does the average over-level 20 player MAKE in those 1.x hours a day Bungie? If you don't like PvP you're doomed to replay the same handful of strikes & raids ad nauseum.

Making it an insane (luck-based) grind to get to 30 may seem like a clever way to string out minimal launch content in the short term but they're risking crazy player fatigue.

I'm 23 hours in, at level 22 and I've only done story missions up to Venus (they suck). Just doing Strike play lists and crucible stuff.

I think I'm finally done. I played all day today and went up a level but got no new weapon drops that were better than the stuff I was using. I gained about 6 light by getting the same gear (name, looks etc) with ever so slightly different stats (but not better, just different).

I got disconnected from budgie servers 4 times in the middle of strikes but didn't get booted to title screen. Never happened roaming the moon or Venus for patrol
Missions. Never lost connection to PSN etc. it fucking sucked.

I'd love to do the raid stuff and all that but it's just so slow to get anywhere. I've done the sepick Prime strike or the Nexus strike or that Mars one so many fucking times now. It's just a routine.

Sigh.

I got to level mid 28 before even going into Crucible & that was only to get points for Bad JUJU. all my exotic gear (bar JUJU) I have bought (SUROS, 2 Helmets & Ice Breaker) all my legendary stuff I have bought twice over lol plus I I spend my Motes to get extra Shards which seem to be few & far between for me lol

Oh well, "a guy you know did it" certainly is compelling proof, I mean all I had were silly old subjective numbers to prove it isnt possible. But youve got "some guy I know did it" on your side and a bizarre non sequitur based on your speculation about what I might want Xur to sell. What I want him to sell is immaterial (and as an aside I have all the exotics I was interested in apart from Monte carlo which he wont sell), the fact the what he sells is random means you cant rely on him to gear up in this magical two weeks of yours.

It doesnt matter whether you buy A then B or B then A when you cant afford to buy A+B+C+D in two weeks. If you have a limited timeframe and a limited window in which to purchase things then the order in which you purchase them is immaterial, you should perhaps heed your own advice about using your brain.

As for you beginning to see what my problem with Destiny is, to be honest I literally laughed aloud after reading that. I would love if you had even the tiniest inkling of what me problem with Destiny was, because it would mean you had actually read and understood what I wrote and might actually respond intelligently (hell I'd settle for intelligbly at this point) to it. But alas thats not to be, so I bid you adieu

Gloves 65 + Legs 65 + Chest 65 = 195

1 exotic from vendor is 23 coins.

I didn't say I know a guy who did it. I said me and everyone I know (EVERYONE) did it.

I don't get it. I have too many weapons to upgrade. Always working on something. This is something Bungie got right imo and one of the reasons the game is so addictive despite it's flaws. Getting a legendary/exotic fully upgraded takes a while and it gets exponentially harder with every new exotic as you have to juggle them.

The whole raid, including all chests?? That is insanely unlucky then. I've done it twice and got Raid Gloves, Raid Boots, 2x Rocket Launcher, 2x Scout Rifle, shader, warlock bond, ship and a bunch of shards/energies. And I would say I've been at best middle of the pack when it comes to "luck" during these raids.

Yep, all chests, we followed a guide. Every chest just had shards/energy in it, and the mid-boss dropped the same. Final boss I got the white shader and 2 shards.

I am hoping to tackle the raid this week and this is my nightmare.

That's not the nightmare.

When I played it, everyone in my group got the shader except one person, who got a fucking ship. And nothing but materials from chests. THAT is the nightmare.

OP neds to stop fixating on gear and just have fun with friends shooting shit. When it stops being fun, stop playing. No different than any other game.

Machinima guys are obnoxious. Their review of Destiny was a very reactionary, "Why is everyone complaining? We get it, if you don't like Destiny, you don't like fun video games."

That's not the nightmare.

So what, I don't get the problem...

On my first raid I got only Shards/Energy and the white Shader.
The second time I got only Shards/Energy and the Auto Rifle with void damage.

I do not have a single piece of raid armor, while some of my friends are already fully equipped.

Who cares, it was a lot of fun! :)

This is the first game that I've had a love/hate relationship with. There are so many things that piss me off about this game, but I can't stop playing it. My main focus was actually in the Crucible, and I started getting jealous when everyone else had all of these crazier guns than me. Then, I started focusing more on the campaign events to try to unlock all of these weapon and armor perks so I could finally make the Crucible matches feel more like a fair fight.

What pisses me off is that there should at least be some sort of "tournament" or arcade mode that gives everyone access to the same weapons and perks up front so we can just focus on playing for fun without feeling like we are at a disadvantage. That's what I loved about Halo. Imagine if you had to grind for 50 hours just to have a Battle Rifle in Halo 2. Destiny has awesome gameplay, but the "rpg" element basically wipes a big booger on it.

The "bounties" are probably the most annoying thing, it's basically no different than pulling up an Achievement or Trophy list to do annoying tasks like "shoot X 200 times in the head with weapon Y" to earn 20 gamerscore. I hated achievements that made me do that, and Bungie thought it would be a great idea to make that a never-ending game mechanic. I finally did unlock enough good weapons and armor with useful perks, but it sucks how much I had to "work" to get back to what I originally wanted to do... enjoy the Crucible mode.

For the third or fourth time, that only works if Xur is selling a helmet for your class, he doesnt always (for example the first week) sell helmets. THUS YOU NEED TO BE LUCKY TO GET THE HELMET. You also need to be lucky to get the amount of strange coins needed, fresh 20's cant even enter the weeklys required to get them unless they get LUCKY ENOUGH to get the RIGHT upgrade materials to update their gear. Is it possible? Yes. Is it probable? Perhaps. Is it guranteed? NO. To gear up in two weeks you have to get lucky so stop repeating that its guaranteed.

You dont understand probability or plain english thats fine, but maybe you should preface your posts with that so people dont have to waste their time on you?

Running strikes gets old as fuck for sure. I pretty much just try to do my daily heroic on 28 now that I can easily solo them for the shards or energy, do bounties on days I have more time to play for the xp to level gear and hoping Vanguard level up packages give shards/energy/strange coins and do the Weekly Heroic and Nightfall. Hoping to start doing the strike weekly this week.

Still repetitive, but at least more variety than just running the strike playlist--and I don't like the PVP.

That is exactly what I did. I used a blue weapon for pvp and pve until something better dropped.

That took me to level 27 without ascendant upgrades. After that I saved up 28 ascendant shards and got myself to level 28.

I don't know if you can be "good" at an RPG but understanding how to level efficiently goes a long way.

I have no wife or kids when I get home for a few hours tonight

I am like level 1.5 rep with my faction and need 22 marks to have 65

If I am not able to accomplish that tonight I am officially done with this game lol.

I feel like I spent half my weekend trying to get from 24 to 25

At least vanilla WoW had content.

Dude is continuing to compare launch day WoW with Destiny, which makes no kinda sense. You literally go through all of the content (ignoring the raid) in Destiny within 10 hours and that's being mighty generous. This is a dude that has done that, plus repeated missions and strikes over and over for their 3 nearly indistinguishable classes. It is mind boggling that any longtime MMO player would even look at Destiny and think the amount of content is remotely close. It's got a single city. One. It's like the size of a single PS Home zone with less interactivity. Shit is comedy that people are defending this game.

You're probably just playing out of compulsion. A lot of the design of this game is made to make you play compulsively. I'd suggest you take a week or two off and see if their spell is broken.

Oh, actually the exotic armor from Xur was only 13 coins. The helmet engram is 23 motes of light.

Yup, actually made fun of the OP ;)

I watched the video, and honestly didn't understand the joke. I think it's unrelated to this thread.

OP brings valid criticism to the way Destiny rewards players and how it affects game progression. As I understand it, that's what this thread is about. But the guy in the video is saying that OP's mad because he played for 100 hours, questions why he did it, and implies that he wants his $60 back.

That's not funny, it's just... an incorrect statement.

Yup. It's very easy to make progress just doing daily/weekly content and playing the crucible. You can pretty easily get a full set of legendary gear without having to rely on RNG BS. Even farming upgrade mats isn't that bad if you work it into your vanguard bounty/rep grinding.

Tangential thought: I am somewhat surprised by people who say they play the strike playlists and that they're sick of playing them. Strike playlists are a waste of time, don't bother doing them if you're not having fun.

Well, it's repetitive because there's only a few strikes. But I like it, and I play even when my marks are capped. The main problem, for me, is having teammates that are playing because they have to, and not because they want to. These guys stay AFK or just rush through mobs to get to the boss, while I have to carry them in my back; also, this "kind" of player is very common because of the way this game is designed (repetitive bounties, content starvation, grinding marks/rep to buy gear, unfair RNG, etc).

Wait a second wait a second waiiiittt aaaaaa seccccond.

So my friend just told me Vault of Glass is the last piece of FREE new content were getting with this game and everything else is going to cost us.

That can't be true right

This too easily lets them off the hook. You mean nobody at Bungie did a shred of research about what does and does not work in loot games, especially the widely publicized problems with Diablo 3 that caused them to ditch the AH and raise drop rates? We're supposed to assume that nobody at Bungie could try to steer them down the right path prior to release? It's not like the AH just disappeared, it's been gone for 6 months.

These guys don't all live in a bubble programming their game with zero external stimulus, especially if they're trying to replicate the loot game genre.

No excuse for not being able to figure out a proper loot system with so many games to model themselves after.

Destiny is insanely cheap with giving loot. Since the loot patch I've probably gotten one actual item out of a legendary engram. they've all been shards or energy. I don't think bungie is stupid and I don't think loot is as random as they claim. I think the severe lack of content and loot system go hand in hand in this game.

NO WAY.
Holy hell no way.
You mean to tell me the 7 hours of legitimate content in this game that they have suckered us into to playing over and over and over and over and over again is IT!!!

Oh man I want to break something.

Yeah just $17.99 will get you a new raid and 1-2 strikes. I sense your apprehensive, how about 34.99 and Ill throw in the second expansion.

When I hit the end of the story, I knew that was coming.

I bought the season pass, no regrets. My biggest worry is that there will only be two expansion packs, and that we'll have to wait until Destiny 2 for more. As dumb as the story and lore is, I'd like more of it. What's there feels like Act I of any other game.

It's not WoW. You're not paying $15/month to keep fresh content rolling in. I truly wish there was more to the game, but it's not going to be free. It's sad but true.

Dude even if you HAD paid $50 for WoW, you'd likely still be marching through content 3 weeks after launch. The Vanguard, The Cruicible, The Queen IT's all the same thing. It's a character model a series of repetitive bounties, and a weapon. If you bought the limited of Destiny you have spent more than what I spent after 3 months of WoW including the $50 price and $15 monthly.

5 hours of Mordor took the Destiny needle out of my arm.

I'll probably come back every now and then for some pvp, but that's about it.

If i have to shoot at the Nexus one more time, i might just lose my mind.

There are still people out there thinking that Bungie is going to be putting in actual FREE content? I'm sorry you had to learn it this way...

I think its more fair to compare Destiny to Bungies last Halo title than it is to compare it to WOW

Despite being built to resemble and MMO I dont think Bungie approached this first entry with that SCALE in mind.

I mean clearly not. I would like to know how it compares to the content they presented in Halo Reach.

Seeing the transition from that perspective seems to make more sense.

Halo is typically Campaign + Multiplayer and thats it.

Here in Destiny its like they Built RPG Halo and have it sitting as a base..... I think they stopped WAY too soon.

I dunno. Ive payed 60 bucks for this amount of content plenty of times in the AAA space but now it gets slammed because it doesn't fit in its own Genre?

This is a bizarre double standard guys.

Yep, I know it.

I was one of those day-one WoW guys, and I played until the first expansion, so my net investment was $50 + 24 * 15 = $410.

Destiny is definitely light on content, but, one month in, I'm still really enjoying it and playing it like an addict. I've played it enough that I can probably justify the $90 I paid for the limited edition.

I can completely sympathize with someone that would feel ripped off, though. The game could use more of practically everything (strikes, loot, locations, enemies).

What?
There is no way the campaign straight to finish is as long as a typical Halo campaign.
Plus the MP is fun but nowhere near as solid as Halo either.

Where is this quality your talking about?

How does it match up with Reach then? NOT WELL. You're talking about a great campaign with characters and a story line that can also be played with 3 other people. You have control over all of the difficulty and variables with skulls. You have way more options for multiplayer along with fully customized maps, game types, etc. You have theater for replays. On top of all of that you still have the weekly and daily challenges. Hell they even had a ranked arena playlist that was 3 vs. 3. Anyone who has played and loved Bungie games IN THE PAST knows this is less content than anything they released last gen.

I am hoping to tackle the raid this week and this is my nightmare.
Exactly this happened to me last week. Just to add insult to injury it was mostly ass energy and only two shards, the latter is what I'm severely lacking.

Tonight will be better though, I can feel it in me bones. Vex Myth and auto nerf, Drive club servers finally working (ish). Bring it on.

There will more than two, A LOT more.

Probably like six to eight before the next game.
