There were a bunch of really technically impressive Genesis games in its last years. Batman & Robin is full of amazing tech.

I think it is just a raster scrolling effect. Like the floor on fighting games or track on Outrun clones.

I've seen things like this even on ZX Spectrum. Opera's Soviet have a pretty convincing effect for buildings.

And yeah, Genesis was a beast.

On topic: this thread is a goldmine for great wallpaper. Still a smidge sad 3D hit as fast and hard as it did back in the day. So much more room for 2D to grow (though I get the reasoning behind dropping hand drawn 2D)
