Wow that was really cool.
Yeah, really love how that lookedThe zooming into the Vermeer paintings was absolutely stunning. I'd pay just to play around with the first minute of that demo.
Need actual sources on all of these. How could they illegally steal an IP that they owned the rights to from a studio that they owned?Bribing journalists, deceitful gameplay promos, gimping PC games, and apparently illegally trying to steal Patrice's IP after firing him a couple times are the first things that come to mind. They've also got a track record for releasing broken games.

Ubisoft bought THQ Montreal, didn't they? Patrice became a Ubisoft employee right after the acquisition. They tried working towards 1666 but a month or so later they went separate ways in bad terms. Yes, Ubisoft is scummy for trying to steal Patrice's IP, but 1666 was in IP hell from day one. A game of such scale requires a big studio like Ubisoft making it. Patrice will probably sit on it for a while, while he manages his indie studio.
As per the article, "Ubisoft scooped up the 1666 rights at THQ's bankruptcy auction, paying $2.5 million for not only 1666, but also the THQ Montreal studio and a new game codenamed Underdog."
1. It was a preview event, they mentioned it wasn't part of their policy, (whoever organized the event was likely fired for doing so), and it didn't affect reviews since the people attending the event weren't the same people who reviewed the game.Good call, it might be better to back that statement up.

I'm interested in knowing more about this also, especially whether or not it was legal for them to own the IP in the first place. Hope we can see some more news about the lawsuit.
I bet Patrice was happy as heck when Syndicate underperformed and The Division became one of the most sold new IP's. It pretty much meant that AC was no longer the main focus for Ubisoft and they didn't have to worry too much for competition with another historic adventure game.
I hope that both Ancestors and 1666 are successful, but man they look rough. Early in development, I know.
No, Vermeer and Rembrandt were born in Delft and Leiden, both in the (northern) Netherlands. If you can't tell Flemish and Dutch masters apart in style, which I can't blame you, the former mostly painted religious imagery, whereas the latter painted more secular, everyday life imagery.Wait. Are they not ?
