1st PS4 footage of Madden 25 (mostly "true step")

I bought Madden NFL 25 Anniversary Edition just for the NFL Sunday ticket. It's the first Madden I've bought since before the NFL2K series came out and crushed all other foozball games. Really enjoying the Sunday ticket, the Red Zone channel is the shit. Game is still in the shrink wrap though...

You should have done what I did…Amazon 25th Anniversary just for Sunday ticket $100…played the game for like 3 days, traded it in for $30-35 = Sunday ticket for like $65. Greatest deal ever and I'll happily do it every year if they want.

The game comes out next week.. why havent EA still confirm on resolution and fps? Yea I know alot dont care about graphics, hell I really dont but if they cant do they other things right they least they can do is this right.

I mean, the crowds look better, but are we really still going to have a bunch of the same fan in every shot going through the same motion (red circles)? And we can't get randomly generated jersey numbers in the crowd (yellow dots)?

Ugh.

I haven't watched the footage yet, that's not really PS4 footage, right? Right?

Wow we've come really a long way from Tecmo Bowl.

Is it weird of me that the only next gen games that interest me or impress is the sports games?

competition alone does not yield better results (take a look at MLB 2k vs. the show!).

To play the devil's advocate, how do you know that The Show would be so good if it didn't have to fear competition from 2K?

OT: The graphics don't look impressive for next-gen. I like the grass though. So there's that.

Ugh, this does not look good:

Sometimes the animations look OK, other times awful
Faces are all bad
Where are the tattoos?
It seems like there are not enough body types, Brady's upper body is HUGE
The names on the back of the jerseys are way too big
One look into a small section of the crowd shows one character model being used almost 10 times
The ball comes out of the QB's hand weird

Most importantly, all these close-ups don't mean shit because the game will look almost exactly the same as current gen from the actual gameplay perspective.

Looks terrible. The crowd is just pathetic, reusing the same character model over and over again. Smh
The sidelines have no life to them. In fact, the coaches weren't even looking at the play on the field.
Looks way too cartoony. Faces are way off.
Oh and don't think it's going to change next year. This is the engine for their next-gen sports titles.
The QB throwing animations look horrendous. The QB doesn't even grip the ball.
Speak with your wallet. Also, smh at those wanting NFL2k, but yet they buy Madden.

What does that have to due with a NFL game by 2K games? Visual concepts always delivered AAA NFL and NBA games since the Dreamcast. Yes, their hockey and baseball games were mediocre. But their NFL games were critically acclaimed and had a very loyal fanbase. The NFL 2K series always blew away Madden in terms of visuals and animations. I think it's pretty safe to assume that if a next gen NFL 2K did exist, it would be more impressive than what EA has shown and would wow us in the same way that next gen NBA 2K has.

Not only that, but the baseball and hockey games for the longest time weren't even done by the in-house Visual Concepts team, they were Blue Shift and Kush Games respectively. Towards the end 2K tried to move those in-house with the VC guys, but even they couldn't salvage the codebase they took over from those developers.

Bring back Quarterback Club!
Word. Madden still doesn't have true spot passing like QB club did YEARS ago.

The problem is they focus too much on this like this instead of the gameplay and graphics on the field. Who cares about the sidelines coaches if the players move like robots, clip through each other and have a POS physics system??

Is it weird of me that the only next gen games that interest me or impress is the sports games?

Yes. If you can look at KillZone then look at Madden and be impressed I don't know what to tell you.

it was mentioned earlier that the NFL approached EA and 2K about an exclusive deal. Actually I believe it was finally reported that it was EA who was the one who approached the NFL a couple of years before that. I'll try to look it up.

An EA presentation on the state of the football market in November 2004 said, “[bullet] Sega stole the
initiative from EA, particularly on Xbox [bullet] Curre
ntly out of position going into Xbox 2’s launch year
[bullet] Taking back this initiative can be achieved with: [sub-bullet] Licensing lockout
[sub-bullet] Radical
changes in our product and market strategy, along with appropriate resource allocation [sub-bullet] Xbox
focus on product and marketing in FY06.” Sitrin, Todd, 11 November 2004, State of the Football Market,

in November 2004 said that if it was able to “Secure
full [exclusive] deal” with the NFL and NFLPA for the following, EA would be able to achieve “AAA
Pricing”. However, if EA was unable to sign an exclusive it would have to “Compete against fully loaded
ESPN” and thus “Lower pricing”

In the fall of 2004 Todd Sitrin, Vice President of Marketing at EA Tiburon Studio, indicated that EA would
be able to sell an AFL game for at most approxima
tely $30 if it faced low-price competition from Take-
Two’s NFL 2K series. “Obviously, we are trying to hold pricing on Madden and NCAA Football, but with
Sega at $19, we may not be able to launch an AFL title above $29.”

Later, in the same email string Larry Probst, Chairman
and CEO, suggested that if EA signed exclusive
licenses with the NFL and NFLPA, then it should be
able to set a retail price of about $40 for its AFL
game. “If the negotiations with the NFL are succes
sful, which will facilitate
premium pricing on the
flagship product, we should be able to get $39.95 for an AFL title. I don’t want to leave this license open to
Sega/Take-Two as an alternative strategy to an NFL branded product.

straight bullshit man, EA and the Media have been/still lying about this whole thing for a while now.....anyway, there is more but its Saturday night and I need to go out.

Maybe the word is interest then. :|

Competition can't yield results if the talent isn't there. I think Raging Spaniard said it best about whats going on at Tiburon;
From what I hear at Tiburon (past coworkers, friends of friends) lots of the issues in Madden have to do with ex football players who know dick about game design ... being in charge of game design.

Remember those bums Kush Games?! They were the ones making the MLB2K titles at the beginning of this generation and 2K picked that ball up and seemingly kept a lot of what they built. And before that, it was Blue Shift making the MLB2K games. I'm not excusing them, I'm just making the point that 2K (when they got rid of Kush and started making the game internally with 2K9) was in the same position as Madden, where they couldn't exactly put the game on hiatus for a few years due to their exclusive 3rd party contract with the MLB.

Its all about the talent and by seeing 2Ksports outsource their baseball game for so long, they didn't have it like they did with the NBA2K team. And what did we get? Shit. I really hope they're in talks with Konami. Bringing them along to make an MLB game could light a fire under SCEA's ass.

Really irrelevant at this point. An exclusive would have happened sooner or later...it's just how the NFL operates its business. EA wasn't even the highest bidder for the license which was Disney. But the NFL wanted to go with the established brand and partnership they felt comfortable with and could best control.

did you report the truth when it was revealed?

edit- also everyone I updated my post with a link to the Federal Documents.

Lets also be honest here. 2K did themselves no favors with that $20 price point. We all loved it but we know the NFL probably wasn't impressed with the devaluing of their "brand".

I always assumed this was the biggest issue for the NFL. 2k literally devalued their brand by 66%. Yeah, that was going to go over well with either the players and/or the NFL.

as if they are not "devaluing their brand" with the product they are releasing. But I hear what you are saying. But I truely wonder if the NFL didn't know that 2K was about to release their game for $20. And if they were told, I would've expected the NFL to put a stop to it if they seriously had a problem with it. Put a stop to it, meaning letting 2K know the repercussions down the road, if they followed through with that $20 price tag.

edit- and its not like they were going to keep that $20 price tag...I believe it was to get as much exposure of their best product yet. They figured people were going to buy Madden anyway...and instead of expecting people to spend another $60, why not meet them more than half way. Really it could be looked at added overall sales. 2K fans were already going to buy the product. If they missed out on $40 from those 2K fans, by selling it at $20...yet were able to tab into that 5 million Madden User base...it would've been worth it. Heck the NFL might have made more $. Imo, this whole $20 issue was just used as an excuse to justify the move, when there was more to it.

Now that is the only hole in my theory. I talk to a few NBA2K devs and the NBA runs everything! If 2K could release NBA2K sooner than October, they would...But the NBA has rules for everything. I've never got a clear answer on attendance(for shitty teams) but it seems pretty self-explanatory. So yea, it would seem that the NFL would have say in it...But we're talking about a different time here, before Giddell. Notice how neutered the NFL Blitz game is now? Times change...and Im sure the leagues have as well in the last 8 years.

Its the same with SCEA and the MLB. Supposedly they have to follow the style guide they're given and have to deal with the inaccuracies it brings, among other things(rushing the mound)

They've got to show some gameplay this week. The game comes out at the end of next.

Fans should skip Madden 25 on next gen consoles, as it is a last gen game running at higher resolution.

Maybe Madden 2014 or 2015 will actually takes advantage of next gen. It's more likely that we will have to wait for Madden 2017 for a true next gen version which has no last gen baggage.

i would gladly take madden 25 next gen if it was madden 13 with improved graphics. unfortunately, madden 25 current gen was worse than madden 13 in almost every way

Man I've been playing 25 with my friend on weekends and I think it's awesome. Next 10 days are the longest 10 days ever. Cannot wait to play Madden on the PS4. If they just make the menus snappier than the 360 version I'll be content.

Game is fine if you're screwing around with your buddies but for serious business online franchise it is a joke. No defense can be played. Cbs are idiots, oline is overpowered and there is no pass rush. Blocking is also way too good at the line and down the field. There is very little difference in qb play.... Terrell Pryor is one of the best qbs in the game because he is fast and accuracy ratings mean very little

So I just picked up Madden 25 for PS4 and I assumed it would have some gameplay shots on the back

S0kymXBl.jpg

Nope, just bullet points and one up close shot of a player.

This has to be the biggest fuck you of any sports game released ever. I have the game in hand and still no real gameplay footage anywhere :(

That's amazing. Even the guys putting together the case art had no idea what the game looked like.

Can you post the back?
