1Up Show 7.6 (Ratchet & Clank, Zelda PH, Uncharted)

That's how I felt before, but I'm honestly thinking Ratchet will top it now. I just had not been paying proper attention to it- the polish and variety (both in visuals and gameplay) looks amazing.

Don't get me wrong, Ratchet is definitely great, but Drake's Schicksel is gonna be RAWR.

Is it just me or does Kathleen Sanders seem like she's scared to death while talking about Uncharted..

She has this weird tremor in her voice... it sounds like nerves to me... Maybe a bit of stage fright?

It annoys me alittle bit espcially since I feel that she really has nothing to be worried about..

Only a couple thousand people are ever going to see this...

she is being menaced by those two hulking manbeasts discussing uncharted's GOTY contendership.

I'm saying if he said "any more," that meant it was tolerable for a while. For him, they've apparently just now hit that point where they need to stop doing it.
I feel that the series needs to have more sequels and less remakes.

Similar to the discussion in the 1up show, I feel the Zelda franchise has become too formulaic of late. The last Nintendo made Zelda that I felt truly moved the classic gameplay into a game that was uniquely designed was Majora's...and that is a game that is equally loved and hated for not being another remake...for treading too far off the beaten path

i lol'd.

I do with the Zelda discussion wasn't such a defensive counter to the forum posters. Got a little repetitive and didn't say much besides it's good.
I think the Zelda formula should just be scrapped in favour of a new IP in the same vein.

Uncharted looks quite poor in places still.

I feel like I've already played all three of these games, but at least Zelda has a twist with the touch screen. Ratchet doesn't really look like anything new, and the graphics aren't as good as I thought they'd be. And Uncharted looks like Tomb Raider / RE4. Big deal. Its not going to be as good as either of those games were in their prime. I just can't get excited about them.

LOL are you trying to dump on Ratchet LOL?

Tomb Raider never had a prime. Srsly.

And gunplay-wise? RE4? Uncharted is in a whole different league. Did RE4 even have platforming? Or intelligent enemies?

You don't have to be excited about them for your own reasons, but don't kid yourself, Drake's Schicksel is the real deal.

I don't know how you've come to that conclusion. In both cases Drake improves on their broken mechanics.

I just don't get the Uncharted love. It wasn't that good...

then again maybe seeing 3 pages of people splooging over it made my expectations to high.

i've always thought it looked super fun and pretty--i was going to buy a ps3 to play it this year, until i heard the dualshock systems weren't being released until next year--but the footage they showed in the 1up show looked like a much better version of stranglehold. word is there's more to it than that, but i could see not being overly impressed with the gameplay that was on display here.

Well you cant move and shoot at the same time

wow, you're right! wretched

resident evil 4's mechanics were broken? WOW

You've got the same broken control scheme the series has always (except they latched the camera to Leon's back which helps somewhat). Put that same control scheme in another action game and people would be going crazy over how bad it is. And it is gimped to not be able to move and shoot at the same time. Why this was featured in Outbreak but you still can't do it in the mainline series makes no sense.

i hate to say this, but moving and shooting simultaneously from the third person perspective looks absolutely ridiculous, floaty, and stupid 99% of the time.

I will lol if it ends up playing worse than RE4, as that seems to be what people who complain about that game latch onto.

People say it plays worse than RE4? Who? The controls have been a concern but going by the recent previews of people who've had issues with the early controls, they've finally managed to get them right. ND's been taking a lot of suggestions (including those from the PSBlog) for things they need to clean up in the game.

i think he was talking about people who have complaints about re4 generally being displeased with the inability to move while shooting.

i don't want my opinion on this to be construed as a knock against uncharted; i think the game looks super impressive and awesome. i think the shooting would be better if they slowed it down and made it more deliberate, rather than doing the sort of run-around-wildly-spraying-bullets gameplay so common to third person shooters. do you have to do that in this game? absolutely not. the videos show lots of duck and cover. i'd still prefer the penalty for running in like a jackass to be a little more than what's currently evident, though.

There is a penalty, it's mainly that you get mowed down rather quickly. Watch the On the Spot video at Gamespot where a ND employee is playing it and dies about 5 times in a 10 minute timespan because he doesn't use cover.

People who complain about RE4, Not Uncharted.

固定

Gunplay-wise Uncharted is already miles better than RE4, whether it's aiming, enemy AI, cover mechanics or character controls, I don't know why people are even picking on the gunplay now, it's pretty sweet at this point.

screw your little no. I said yes.

The game was a total overhaul of RE. It took the graphics, gameplay, and controls to a new level. Changed the formula a lot while still making it a great game.

profound wrongitude. so much so that even die-hard resident evil fans complain about how little it feels like old resident evil games.

The guy that went to sony's holiday event tried running around wildly spraying bullets. It proved to work against him. There seems to be some depth to the confrontations in this game. The puzzles might even have some competence (if the press kit decipher puzzle is anything to go by), as well as the adventure aspect. The people behind this are known for such (not the gun play I believe. Which they are humble enough to take suggestions on).

just so i'm sure about this, we're talking about the same game, right? the #4 most critically lauded game of all time, which has been culled from endlessly since its release? i hope if you don't like it now you learn to love it, because you're going to be playing some variation of it for the next five years until someone figures out how to improve on the things it did so right.

wait, my mistake. it's #4 and #9.

Yeah it was awesome. Ratchet and Clank is even effected by it with it's over the shoulder cam (not tank + stop shoot controls thankfully). But for RE games stop to shoot was a game design choice. More scary.

Oh MGS4 also has the over the shoulder cam. Go RE4 influence!

RE4 is an interesting animal because it's so well designed around a really archaic control scheme. You never really want for anything better.

But really, it's designed around some very strange limitations.

The limitations are what make it a good game. Some restriction is good. If Mario could jump as far from standing still in Mario 1 as he could from running the game would be broken. Same goes for Leon's tank controls.
