1UP Show: When? Answer: Now!

I thought this episode was a good balance between hard-core, insider videogame news and fun conversations.

Black did look cool, but I'm skeptical that it may just turn out to be a no-thinking shoot em' up game. It would be good for stress-relieving, but it may get old somewhat quickly.

Some thoughts.

The frame rate in Full Auto looks a lot smoother than I have seen in other video clips of it. I am glad to see that this game will actually be smooth (or at least above 30fps).

Che says that in PGR, you are going so fast that you do not notice the beauty. Blur is the reason. The sheer amount of it is horrendous. RR6 is the only game out so far that implemented it right and 60fps next time, damn it!

Fight night looks good, there seems to be a lot of thought put into it. I loved the comment that this gives them hope that there will be next gen games that actually look next gen and that they were not going to be playing Geo Wars for the next two years. I agree that GW is the best game out on the 360 even though it isn't exactly a next gen title.

Black may end up being a good title but I forsee lots of people selling/trading this game in because of the lack of multiplayer. And since it seems like the game has no story or whatever (at least that's what I perceived from previews), it'll probably just end up being a mindless FPS with no real objectives but to blow shit up

I really don't need a whole lot of story in my FPS in order for me to love it. Everybody said Half-Life had an awesome story; aside from the intro everything-goes-to-hell sequence, there wasn't much narrative after that aside from talking to Barneys and professors (who usually told you a short term goal which has nothing really to do with the story at hand). But I loved HL1 because it had awesome firefights (thanks to the aggressive AI -- all enemies need grenades to flush you out and keep you on your toes) and weapons. Quite the opposite, Half-Life 2 had much more story elements but the game absolutely bored me precisely because it lacked awesome AI and intense firefights. For me, story in an FPS is expendible.

Other shooters I loved that lacked a compelling story but had plenty of visceral firefights: Brothers in Arms: EiB, FEAR, Halo: CE (sorry guys), Call of Duty 2 -- just off the top of my head.

Lack of multiplayer, however, is a problem indeed.

How is the destruction handled in Black? Are there a ton of different ways to blow things up or is it the same canned destruction animation over and over?

For example, building X always blows up the same way or door Y also gets shredded in the same manner.

Oh, wait.

Why, Che? Why?!

Because Halo: CE lacks a compelling story! Yet I loves me some combat evolved. Especially on legendary. ;)
Being the last of a super human breed fighting your way across an unknown landscape against hordes of enemies (both the known and unknown) and uncovering the mysteries of the 'halo' artifact aren't compelling enough reasons?! :D

FN3 looks beautiful but incredibly stiff. I'm disappointed they still haven't incorporated what actual, real fighting feels like (judging by the animation and pauses inbetween), but I'll probably get hold of this anyway.

The game needs to be first person too. That view changed the whole visual vibe of the game straight off. Reminded me of that grotty boxing club in Westbourne Park (a good thing).

Oh, and good show. That Black piece was fucking ace. Exit looks okay.

I thought it was alright. I think I'm just gonna fast forward to the game footage and when they interview company reps/devs (crazy EA guy was $).

edit, yeah Fight Night looked way too slow and stiff. That's not boxing.
