Uhhh, wasn't he praising it last week?
He was initially lukewarm towards Vesperia, but has since come around to give the game the praise it deserves. I'll definitely give him that. He has played most of the big RPGs on the 360.

God damn! Shane went there! "This office loves X-box LIVE!"

Xbox live is a TOTALLY different experience for them though. It's not the same as some kid by himself playing Gears of War in his bedroom in the middle of Iowa. When you have 20 something people that you know personally that are all gaming nerds like you using the service and talking about it all day long then Xbox live really shines. The more real life friends you have that use the service the better it is and these guys just because of what they do for a living have the most ideal situation to use the service.

So of course they are going to like it on a level that most people here can't understand.

I disagree. Maybe non-360 owners wont understand. But current Live users are well aware of the virtues of the service for a while and having been singing its praise for ages.

ok. time to shut the fuck up about pc gaming.

every single point in regards to pc gaming would've been flamed to hell and back should there have anyone with a halfway informed opinion in the room, or any kind of intelligent dissent save for the other three cackling vultures. with john 'i haven't played a pc game in years and am dumbfucked by the idea of even changing a video card' davison again leading the charge into gamefaqs level shit slinging - declaring 'PC GAMING AM DEAD' for the umptillionth time, (in the same week as the L4D demo) and regurgitating a dazzling torrent of horse shit (all former pc gamers now only play WoW? cs is only a 'pro niche?' crysis warhead sold like shit?) that pc gaf could tear apart in seconds.

Okay, wow, this thread is through the looking glass. Shane did not say anything about Moutourstouorm 2 that John did not fully agree with, and Garnett points to Banjo hype (which is going to sell 40 copies total) as some kind of counterbalance to his LBP point? :\

If we're going to point to message boards as indicators of the game's popularity, surely we're not talking about gaf's thread.

Shane's "Xbox Live" point was a poor way to just come out and say everyone has an Xbox bias. :lol I loved Garnett biting his tongue on the wii sports review.

And I don't think Quantum of Solace is gonna be the big success I thought it was gonna be.

STOP SAYING MONSTAR

That boss fight in Gears 2 barely requires thinking at all. It's more complex than the Resistance 2 fight in that it isn't just "Shoot mouth to win", but it is basically shoot obvious blue points on monster, then score a 2 pointer three times. There is another boss fight in Gears 2 that also requires you to simply 'wait' and mash B to win. I thought the Resistance 2 boss where the biggest challenge was enduring the boring sequence was easy, but that put it into perspective. Other than the painfully scripted sequences in Gears 2 it's incredible, but let's not kid ourselves here to make the overall product look better, the boss/rail sequences are bad.

Bosses in both games are pretty weak outside of the initial coooOOOOooool factor that would have scored it a 10 in the Clinton years. Then again, at least it's not the ending of Half Life 1.

Did I hear John say Crysis Warhead was a disaster?

I'm pretty sure that Crytek have said they're happy with the sales of Warhead.

Can't wait to listen to this one given the comments in this thread. Sounds like 1Up Yours has turned into a miniature GAF, complete with comparisons of R2 and GoW2 :lol

but about 18 months behind on pc gaming, rocking the same ignorant assumptions that would get you banned around here these days.

So I guess Crysis Warhead sold like shit just like Crysis sold like shit?

You know, how Crysis sold 88k copies its first month?

And then, you know, how it went on to sell nearly 2 MILLION COPIES?

And I guess WoW killed PC gaming.......just like it killed console gaming? Since you're a moron if you think only former hardcore PC gamers play WoW? Yeah, it's not like any console gamers or previously non-gamers play WoW....

Farnack said:
I played R2 multi and he has a point. TF2's cooperation is barely even there. It's pretty much every man for themselves getting as much kills as they can. All the classes are good enough to handle anyone on their own.
You may have played Team Fortress 2, but you haven't played Team Fortress 2.

Shane citing random enemy encounters and travel between places as the reason he doesn't want to play Far Cry 2. lol. Ever play any RPG in, I don't know, the last 25+ years?

The fact that it's an FPS is the reason. Citing other things is just the easy cop out. Although, I don't really see anything against an admission of not liking a particular genre. Obviously you just can't be very objective when it comes to speaking about a game within that genre.

:lol LittleBigPlanet hype dying? After a week of its release?

Give me a break. LittleBigPlanet was a game that was always about what the future may bring.

The reason why there isn't as much LBP talk or hype recently is because, holy shit, we had Fable 2, Fallout 3, Resistance 2, Gears of War 2, MotorStorm 2, Left4Dead, and Call of Duty: WaW release within a matter of weeks from eachother. It's no surprise that people are playing some of those games.

Talk to me in January or the Summer months when there's nothing to play, and that's when LBP will get a lot of play time, during the lull months when there's not much happening.

I went through LBP with my friends and beat the story mode and for now I've moved on to other games TEMPORARILY, but while most of those games I will finish once and forget, I'll definitely be coming back to LBP all the time.

For shooter fans November has been pretty awesome.

R2 ---> L4D Demo ---> Gears 2 ---> COD: WaW* ---> L4D

*Is anyone actually anticipating this one? It doesn't seem like GAF is too excited about it.
I'm really looking forward to WaW. Beta is fucking awesome.

Them talking about PC gaming is basically the same as when TV shows have video games being a couple beeps and boops as someone wiggles the joystick.

It really is quite amazing how oblivious they are to their own hypocrisy, as they bitch and moan for hours whenever the mainstream media latches on to a story they clearly don't understand, yet proceed to themselves do the exact same thing whenever they say a word about PC gaming.

Honestly, that's my fault for not doing a better job in discussing John's points regarding PC gaming. I play PC games on a weekly basis, and there are plenty of experiences that just aren't possible on a console. That's not to say you can't enjoy both, they're just different. It'll be interesting to see how the sales shake out for Fallout 3. I fully expect it to sell fewer copies on the Xbox 360 than PC, but if it's close I think that says a lot. PC games don't have to match console sales copy for copy as it's a constantly evolving platform where many games have longer legs than on the console side.

1up Yours isn't gospel, it's something to drown out the voices in your head for a few hours.

As long as PCs still get awesome games like the Witcher and L4D, I'd say it is a pretty damn good platform for gaming other than WoW.

Garnett is such an enormous tool. The bullshit he pulled out of his ass about LBP was such despicable.

I liked Shane's thinly veiled remark that 1up is consisted mainly of xbots.

You're right no one on 1up Yours plays a PS3 ever except for Shane. CONSPIRACY REVEALED.

PC Gamer said that 17% of the 4.7million copies of Fallout 3 shipped were for PC. That of course does not include Fallout 3 on Steam.

For comparison, in the time it took for Oblivion to sell 1million on Xbox 360, it sold 500,000 on PC. Those were the numbers Bethesda stated a few months before the release of the PS3 version. Oblivion only had a SecuROM disc check as well, and was not on Steam.

The PC is a totally viable platform, as 500,000 is a profitable number, especially for a multiplatform game. PC sales also tend to be less front loaded than console games, since PC gamers will tend to pick up older interesting titles after their next upgrade cycle. That plus the bonus of having a nearly 100% backwards compatible platform. Walk into any EB or Best Buy and you'll see Counterstrike 1.6 and Source, Warcraft III Battlechest, Diablo Battlechest, and Starcraft Battlechest still on the shelf, although Blizzard may have finally stopped shipping those now that they have their own digital distribution store.

As for the bit about Blizzard and Valve being the face of PC gaming, this is largely true. They have continued to make compelling games with incredible value and online experiences, that cater to the PC audience and show no signs of console "streamlining". As a result, hardcore PC gamers have rallied to their banner. Also, their online nature and free trial weekends reduces the impact of piracy. Other developers may still make great PC games, but none of them have the visibility of Blizzard and Valve, studios with flawless records and loads of cash. Blizzard is constantly in the news because of World of Warcraft, and South Korea (which purchased between 4-5million copies of Starcraft) makes Starcraft 2 an incredibly profitable endevour. The professional Starcraft scene has kept the hardcore community interested for over a decade. Valve has great visibility due to Steam, the one stop shop of convenience for casual and hardcore games alike. Steam also has regular weekend sales on various titles, triggering impulse purchases, as well as advertising the latest games to it's users.

Hey Garnett, about boss fights in FPSes...

FINISH HALF-LIFE 2 EPISODE 2 ALREADY!!! >:|!!!

I was about to post this :D

Seriously though... My jaw was on the floor after watching the ending. If you play Episode 2 you absolutely have to finish it. Theres really no excuse its like a 5-6 hour game. I'd love to hear what people that didn't get a chance to beat it have to say about the game.

1UP FM future backlog please!

I agree with everything John said about Fallout 3. And for those fucking IDIOTS who just rush through the main quest like its a badge of honour or something... well, youre just idiots.

Yo David Ellis, did you really think that the boat boss was THAT frustrating? I actually beat it on my first try with no trouble, and honestly the only thing that ended up being the level of frustration that you described was crossing that second ice lake, since the controls of the car are bit awkward...

I don't get what John said about Let it Be. It was put out by Apple themselves, which is who the deal is with, and it was recorded in 69, just not released till after Abbey Road.

And there is only one Ringo song outside of the Octopus's Garden isn't there?
EDIT: And John Lennon did play on Maxwell's Silver Hammer.

Here is late 2008 Shane.

Motorstorm 2 talk every week: "This is the greatest racing game of the year, it blows away that non-Sony exclusive Pure, I can't believe how awesome this is, and it's way better than PGR4, a game I played for 5 minutes"
John Davison's first name is not Shane.

Yeah, except John didn't feel the need to randomly say Motorstorm 2 is better than PGR4 (a game I highly doubt Shane has played for more than 5 minutes) or later in the R2 discussion in a lame attempt to defend it (even though he hasn't played it) twice bring up Halo or Halo 3 (another game he hasn't played) and mention how they were overrated. He has all the hallmarks of a GAF Sony fanboy lately, but I'm still 50/50 on whether it's an act or whether he's serious.

Love the Resistance 2 hate, not because I have anything against the game, I enjoy them setting off the hardcore R2 fanboys here.

Garnett just saved me $90AUD. R2 sounds like everything I dislike about shooters. I'll rent it down the track and form my own opinion, I'm sure, but as of right now it doesn't seem worth my time.

The LBP talk was a bit premature I think. I'm more interested in seeing how healthy the community is come late January-early February.

And yes Gears 2 is awesome. I wish the they'd all played it so that we'd get to listen to some good discussion.

*Comes in*

Ctr F Shane

*Pages filled with it*

*A couple of the local fanboys defending shane, wonder why*

Meh, don't know if i'll download.

I hate it when that dude is the spotlight of the show, for being such a Sony fanboy. I mean i'm already reading some of the shit he said here, saying Motorstorm 2 is better than PGr4, that Halo 3 was overrated in defense of R2, ugh.

That's up there with some of the sony avatars walking around here.

I'm not sure that I would skip out on the game just because the single player mode isn't up to par.
I'm a single-player guy. It takes a lot for me to get into a multiplayer shooter. I usually only play them for, and this is a generous estimate, <2 weeks.

Probably because I don't have the skill required to actually win and I don't have to patience to learn it.

Garnett is totally wrong about LBP. The hype on forums and at the 1UP offices calmed down because a fuckton of new releases came out this week. In a week or so the hype for Gears2 and Fallout3 will settle down too.

I do think that LBP will lose a lot of momentum if MM don't sort out a much better way of sorting thru the content. I played about 30 levels earlier, almost all of them were utter shit. They have to improve that as soon as possible.

The game only came out on Thursday here, and I've already played all but one of the levels provided by MM. If I have to look for really good content that much, I'm just going to play something else.

So am I missing something, or did no one but john seem to have not played FO3 much at all? Or were they just tired about talking about it and just humoring him.

Also, they really need to just not talk about PC gaming at all. 1uy is one of the only podcasts I've listened to which goes out of its way to be deliberately wrong

needs quoting. Doesn't Ellis play pc games to a certain extent or am I projecting based on him talking about cod4 a lot? Break these fools Ellis. Virgins shouldn't teach sex-ed.
