1up's "3 Weeks of Halo 3" and EGM discussion thread

Woah... they're really milking out this story and just extending it beyond anything I've ever seen. I wonder what kind of details we can expect from each of these articles and whether they'll be too 'thin' or not.

Hmm...
Could the X button be, perhaps, a cover button? It is the hot new thing, what with Gears and R6 this fall employing it to varying degrees.

Now, now, no one said it'd be the main topic. Don't worry, we'll be covering the shit out of the PS3 and Wii. But we got a lot of Halo 3 info and interviews to serve up as well.

was ignoring ps3 and wii launch the price you had to pay to get to play halo 3 mp?

as much as i'm liking cover in Gears and Vegas, i don't want it in Halo.

GRAVITY SETTINGS!? So you're saying we could have MOON BATTLES!?

Thank god that's out there. Rockets and Snipers on "Valhalla" at 50% gravity with Mongooses hurtling off the mancannon = bliss.

Also, nobody has yet guessed what the X button does, but please for the love of god don't get too excited. It's cooler than sprint or roll, but it's not as cool as Salma Hayek washing your car in a bikini.

... cool as Monica Belluci doing that then?

There's a chasm of space between sprinting and Salma Hayek. A chasm.

Block/melee counter confirmed.

now that would be spiffy. especially handy for deflecting those melee combos
:lol Yeah, I'd love to couter someone and shotgun him in the face.

"Sit, boy...."

It's probably weapon related though. Steal primary/secondary weapon from target or give/drop weapon for teammate. Something along those lines.

I dont think its steal weapons, people have been talking about that on the Halo 3 forums, and as Stinkles said, nobody has guessed so far.

Oooooooooh - very interesting how no one's guessed it!

Don't worry Stinkles, I'll take your advice and won't get hyped, but it still very cool that it's none of the above things yet... nice...

X transforms Chief into his altered beast form, which as we all know, varies depending on the stage.

Oh man, I'm gonna get so hyped about the x button just to spite you! Like 'Ninjas on fire' hyped!

I dont really expect multiple fire modes unless they take some of the weapons out. The battle rifle and assault rifle were in the multiplayer build shown, which accounts for 3-burst fire for the BR and fully auto for the AR. If you need a different type of fire then i guess you just have to change your weapon. And there is the other factor of balance, a fully auto battle rifle would be a killing machine, but a single fire AR wouldn't be that powerfull.

Edit: Oh, and is the 'ninjas on fire' (whatever you wanna call it) mode actually running in the game, and if so, is there any screenshots of this in the EGM :)

Can you do sprint or roll nevertheless? :D

Some of the H3 blogs are up and live now, Mark.1up.com fo'sho.

Wednesday we're dumping about 3k words on the new maps, weapons and gametypes in your lap.

I'm interested to see if the EGM has any shots, or information, about the new HUD. All of the other screens are from the 3rd person.

Haha, first line: "These graphics aren't that impressive for an Xbox 360 game...."
The truth, straight away... :lol
I liked that too, but let's not forget Motorstorm.

Debate over graphics now would be premature, no?

I didn't really hear anything past "AR" anyways...

;)

You've already read up top what my immediate first impression was. We've seen what the Xbox 360 is capable of with beauts like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Gears of War...and Halo 3 didn't reach those standards in the good-looks department. Of course, Bungie warned us earlier that this very, very early (pre-alpha) version doesn't have all the visual wows built in yet, but still....I'm looking at Halo 3! On the Xbox 360! Of course I have high expectations. The original game's still one of the best looking Xbox 1 titles around. I wanted to be stunned when I saw Halo 3's graphics. I wasn't. It just looked like a slightly sharper, slightly more detailed Halo 2 to me.

ouch...

Hey, anybody know the name of the group and or album/song title. Thanks in advance.

Breaking Benjamin "Blow Me Away"

It's on the Halo 2 soundtrack.

yea ouch, a game that doesnt have the final graphics and isn't coming for a year and was a alpha test doesn't look as good as the best 360 games... ouch indeed

halo 3 should at no stage look like a sharp halo 2 or worse than ****ing graw

Great... just because Shoe didn't grasp that Halo 3 was way early, now a few of you here are gonna start complaining...

Oh well, in as early as a few months, these comments won't matter anymore, I sure...

I agree with this part. They have to rework a lot to make the whole thing look awesome, just adding "final textures" won´t help this thing that much because the polycount in the environments seems to be damn low. It just looks so, eh, Halo 2. Empty environments without much detail, and that bugs me, Halo art style or not. Guess why they had to make the environments in Halo 1&2 look like that...right the XBox wasn´t capable of so much more when you pushed many enemies and vehicles at once on screen. But from a nextgeneration game I expect more than just some empty environments with a couple of (also with lowpoly models as it seems) characters on screen. They´ve got much time though, but they better use it.

You can do all that stuff? Real time play, pause, slow, rewind, etc.?

Well, it has been done before to some degree, I mean games involving different kind of sports for example (saving goals in PES games etc). Obviously they're able to take it further with the online aspect of it all, but still. I'm actually surprised this kind of feature hasn't been used more in games, at least on consoles with a harddrive available.
