Why so every movie, comic, and game could be spoiled? So sexual predators could stalk people? And everyone can sit around on their PC talking to other people who share their viewpoints and they can waste all hours of the day complaining and telling each other how right they are. *

*fully aware that the Internet has done alot of good. But c'mon
Would you trade the internet for the 80's? I sure as hell wouldn't.

And I'd say I was at least 96 times more likely to get abducted by a predator back in the 80's than I am in 2013.

AND we have a much better Ninja Turtles now.

Suck it, yuppies.

Dead

well not really...yet

wheres that gif/comic of that chick shoving her middle finger in that dudes face

Persecution Complex
what? no....

Haha, that was a pure guess, but if you think about it, the lady clerk looks like 50 and a heavy smoker, same with the sore manager dude who looks close to 60., so thats two right there. Then you have to factor in car accident deaths, overdoses, freak deaths etc.

In the past I would have said no way. But watching that video and looking at my internet habits . . . yes, I'd trade the internet for the 80s. Those people were living life and being friendly. I'm just virtual curmudgeon online.

I wonder if that French girl still works in the France section at Epcot. I must find her. If she was 22 y/o in the video she would only be 48 years old by now.

Its sad how society has digressed so much and social interaction has diminished. Its like we all have a thing against strangers and are aggressive towards anyone. Obviously not the case 100% the time, but I feel something like this wouldnt fly in most 7-11's today.

before the digital age, being filmed wasn't seen as a potential invasion of privacy. Now with youtube, photo databases, watchlists, etc. some people aren't very receptive to being filmed ESPECIALLY without first asking whats going on. I probably wouldn't mind having a camera in my face, but I would first want to find out what they were filming for. If I'm satisfied with their answer then they can film away.

Notice how some people in the video don't even ask the guy why he's filming. You would never see that today.

This video right here is clear evidence why people like me (my age) have sentimental attachment to movies such as Top Gun, Back to the Future and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures/Bogus Journey, and TV shows such as Go Bots, HeMan, G.I Joe etc.

i think the novelty of the handycam helped, but yeah i don't feel these people are any more or less friendly than your average stranger today.

Makes me realize just how little video of me there exists from back then. I was probably the same age as these guys in 87.

Very true and that is a great point that now that video can end up anywhere. Even if a camera wasnt pointed in their face, I doubt anyone today still would be receptive to random conversation.

Fuck the internet, fuck online gaming, fuck DD gaming, fuck online Streaming: Netflix and porn, fuck smartphones, fuck tablets, fuck social media: Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Google this, Google that! Skype, IM, facetime, webcam etc...

Just take me back to the good old, simpler days, Where having a video camera was a huge novelty and you had to reserve an entire afternoon with a help of your three friends to go out there and use this camera. The times where you had to have big ass paper maps folded and stuffed in your glove-box to know where you were going if you decided to leave town on a road trip.
Times where you had to make friends with the video store clerk and get "hyped" educated and excited about new movies by simply noticing a new movie poster or a billboard at a bus stop.

just take me back to the good ol' days where there really wasn't any reason to stay indoors, once our homework was done, where we had the energy and the time to go out on weeknights and do whatever we did as friends.

Seriously. Would trade the internet any day for a chance to live back then.

Damn. I actually shot some tape like this in a 7-11 in Minnesota in around the same year. I wonder if I can find it anywhere.

I think you also have to consider that people's first reaction to him was that he was from a news station. I bet you his camera was really expensive.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Yeah, when this was shot a state only had to pass 10% obesity to make the top ten fattest list.

At about 2:00 when they meet that guy in the blue shirt I've had interactions like that. Not at a 7-11 or anything, but having like over-earnest drunk introductions with people. It's very weird.

To be fair, this guy was just being a creeper. The dudes in the original video were friendly and outgoing and talking to people about stuff

Guy in the original video was also just poking camera in people's faces while saying "im just filming ppl in 7-11". Yea the guy in that video set out to see people's reactions when a camera was put in their face but it's really the same thing (certain encounters...like the guy outside the store getting on his bike).

People going on about privacy, rights, and blah blah blah.

No it isn't. The guy in that video was peering into people's cars, taking videos of someone that is injured and in pain at the mall for others to gawk at, and he also went up to someone that was on the phone and sat down at his table uninvited without saying a word. These circumstances are completely different than the 1987 video.
