The biggest downfall is how much time you need to invest, and you have the left behind feeling when you focus on school. For example, how I'm 61 and there are 68-70's.
To be fair, that may be more in your corner more than the game. The content in this expansion relative to the genre does an incredible job of giving folks a ton to do while leveling. The leveling rate is actually too fast for the content; many folks won't even finish all the solo quests before 70 let alone also do most of the dungeons.

Blizzard can only do so much to make it comfortable and fun to level at your own pace; at some point it's the gamer's responsibility how much emphasis he places on the the status of levels and items.

Don't get me wrong, in many cases for MMOs it is the fault of game design, either partially or totally. Furthermore, previous games can impact your current game simply by how they're tailored you to certain types of gameplay expectations. (Eg; If you spent 5 years powergaming in EQ, you'd likely have a hard time suddenly no longer caring about levels and items no matter what the game.)

But to WoW's credit, TBC does a great job of making attempts to make the Lv60-70 trek a comfortable and easily well-paced one.

I concur entirely. I am a smidge away from 63, just started on Friday, and feel in no rush to catchup with the server. Even as most of my guild is getting close to 70 now and it has already been all but said that the first 25 or so to make it to 70 will get a free pass on the gravy train when it comes to exploring new content and stuff, I don't care. I'm not for a second that WoW isn't capable of instilling a "keeping up with the jonses" complex.. but only if you let it. and with 25 man raids PUGing will be much more common. Especially with blizzard clearly delineating between Normal and Heroic mode. I have a feelign 25 man content on Normal will be puggable almost from the beginning... It will just be the heroic mode raids that will have to be tackled by a tightly knit and well in-sync group of individuals.

I never, EVER played a MMO yet I know grinding firsthand from the countless hours spend on it in countless FF and DQ games.

If you really are a casual WOW player you will still enjoy doing several numerous quests a day, the rewards are still better than any end-game blue and they quickly eclipse MC loot, and that alone may give you the incentive. Take your time if you want and enjoy the quests.

there are no heroic mode 25 mans. Heroic stuff is just for 5 man dungeons. It's basically a way for people who can't/don't raid to get comparable gear without pvping. Well, and it's also built in to getting access to the Mt. Hyjal raid, which I doubt is even halfway working right.
