2 NES and 4 controllers on the recycling bin...

I can't believe OP took them away from someone that also wanted them. Couldn't even split 'em OP? Shame! SHAME!

Test both. If only one works, go back to the store and give the broken one to the guy. Tell him both didn't work but you felt bad not splitting it with him.

Alright I'm going in. This is what I'll be using:

Jeez op. Did you just have that stuff lying around? Like next to the rope, duct tape, shovel and bags of lime?

man, reminds me of that one time when we were kids and we found a huge Playboy collection in perfect condition inside a recycling bin .. those where the days.

I got them! Guess the guy who's in charge of the recycling bin wanted them too. The girl from the counter literally "ughed" with disgust when the guy handed them over to me. But I don't care. Look at those goofy motherfuckers:

YES!!

I kinda feel bad for the other guy who wanted them. Maybe he also made a thread on some message board about how he scored 2 NESes from the recycling bin, but then had to update it cuz some random guy took them away from him.

maybe they're full of roaches

RUN THEY'RE FULL OF ROACHES!!!!!

I know I've told this story a million times on NeoGAF over the years, but that actually happened to me!

One time in the mid 90's when I was working at FuncoLand, somebody brought in an NES and a bunch of games to trade in that they had in a cardboard box.

I said "okay, let's see...", reached down and opened the front lid to the console AND...

...what do you think happened next?

A platoon of about twenty giant, glossy cockroaches came scampering out in every direction!!!!

Grab them.

At best, they work and if you don't want them personally, you'll get some money out of them. They typically sell for $50-$75 on craigslist and facebook marketplace in my area.

At worst, they're dead and then you can just throw them back in the recycle bin if you aren't electronically inclined and can't fix them.

I'm sure the other guy has gotten tons of free junk in all his years working there. No way this was the first time he was doing this.

Refurb time. I'll probably take the controllers apart and soak the casing in warm water for optimum result. I'll also try to clean the connectors using rubbing alcohol to see if I can get them to work.

I don't know if it prevents it from showing anything at all upon boot, but in the picture of the NES with the cartridge in it the game doesn't look like it's been pushed down.

NES like most systems of its day will display nothing unless there is a cart inside. Also important to note is that the US design which was brought to Europe doesn't connect the cart to the board unless you lock it firmly. The mechanism to do so tends to break over time too.

I know it's the custom to blow inside in the cartridge when isn't working, but I don't like the idea to do that with your "new" game., who knows where have been before :S

If his cover story to get her to bring the bins out and go through all this to get the two NESes back was "my dad accidentally threw them out" then it'd make no fuckin sense to give one to the recycle guy. In the world of the excuse, they both belonged to OP and were mistakenly tossed out. THINK GAF! THINK!
