2010 Best Technical Achievement in Graphics/Rendering...Yours?

Yeah, God of War 3 really kept amazing me on a graphical level all throughout the game. Maybe some of the areas weren't so hot later on but they were sharp.

Alan Wake really impressed me with the lighting and the draw distance in the daytime scenes.

Kinectimals, if we're talking rendering and animation.

Seriously ... it is a generational leap ahead on anything on a console today, in many respects.

I also have to give an honorable mention for Halo: Reach and the visual upgrade that game is over Halo 3. It's pretty awesome what the team at Bungie were able to accomplish with Reach.
I have to echo this as well, especially considering how little "cheating" is done. With recorded replays you can really see how consistent the world's rules are, even in the weirdest and rarest of situations. The attention to detail in terms of interactions is mindboggling.

God of War 3 - Best tech on consoles this year. The game looks like a purely CG movie at times. Absolutely incredible.

Halo Reach
- Finally Bungie was able to successfully marry their gorgeous art with a engine that could do it justice. As always best skyboxes ever.

GT5
- There at certain times you will be playing the game and the damn thing looks like a televised race.

I'm with you here. When you go into Theater mode and pause the game and witness the insanity with particles, explosions, bullets, and physics it's kinda hard to process. How can you argue with GOW3..really great looking game.

Dennis is Two Worlds just something that needs to be played in order to appreciate the graphical fidelity? I have seen numerous posts by you and watched videos and it looks great but nothing mind blowing.

Yeah it is so pretty. Bungie is ridiculous when it comes to particle effects and the last couple levels are so beautiful.

It sorta gets on my nerves when my friend's remark on how amazing COD looks. The textures, lack of physics, and low resolution really balance out how great it does look running in 60 FPS (admittedly the game does play nice). Shoot a ghost with a spartan laser on a guy with Grunt Birthday Party enabled while Warthogs and guys in Banshees are flying over your head and you start to wonder how Bungie pulled it off.

God of War 3 didn't impress me at all, it reminded me so much of God of War 2. I mean obviously it was better, but the wow factor just wasn't there for me.

It may not be technically as polished but I thought RDR was absolutely beautiful at times.

God of War 3 - Kratos Vs Poseiden - *Scoops jaw off floor*

Gran Turismo 5 - 16 cars, Nurburgring 24hr, Rain, Dusk! - nuff said

Interesting opinion.

Another vote for God of War III, which as far as console games are concerned is the current best graphical showcase.

. . .on a graphics/rendering level?

I suppose. I don't know, I'm sure it's a great technical achievement but it just looked exactly like I expected another God of War game to look like. I was blown away with what they achieved on PS2, but this just seemed like an HD version of that.

God of War 3, and the 360 version of Bayonetta. Crikey, that game got mental at times.

Yea Bayonetta is pretty damn impressive considering the framerate never wavers. Halo Reach does dip from time to time in the campaign. Most of the impressive stuff comes in MP and firefight for me.

I just bought Two Worlds 2.

You better not be misleading me, Dennis. You've talked the talk for a long time, now I'm going to walk that walk.
Explore everything. Go look at the |OT| thread for graphical tweaks.

I played on Hard difficulty but that is pretty hard in the beginning but that is how I like my open-world games. They need to feel tense.

I immediately thought Metro 2033

BUT

I forgot about Two Worlds II...

You could also throw in Stalker: Call of Pripyat (though it's similar to Metro and Metro wins between the two IMO)

You could also throw in the PC version of Just Cause 2 for another open world type game but Two Worlds II beats it...

Side Note: In terms of Mods the Mechwarrior mod for Crysis is pretty fuck'n in sane in the membrane in this area as well.

I read the first few pages of the OT before buying it. You saying it's leagues ahead of Oblivion sealed the deal for me. :lol

Looking forward to it now. I assumed it was just eye candy when you were first mentioning it. :)

Bayonetta's framerate on the 360 wavers all the time btw, you just didn't notice. :P

And I've noticed that the same Metro 2033 picture keeps getting posted when the game is mentioned...am I really the only one that has no idea why that particular pic's supposed to be impressive? The capture suffers from hideous jpeg compression too. :P

This is supposed to be a thread to celebrate games Mr. Negativity.

Metro 2033 is pretty crazy. It doesn't wow me the way Crysis does but that has more to do with scale than anything else. GOW3 was also very impressive. Mass Effect 2 PC looks great and has style but suffers from too many low resolution textures.

That looks good, but its a closed environment and the old guy being oblivious to whats happening ruins the mood.

Don't try to excuse the Bayonetta PS3 port. Also, that Metro 2033 is impressive because of the tesselation.

Hmm, those explosions in Crackdown2 were pretty sweet.
But I think RDR's skybox/view distance/whole package takes the fucking cake. Most beautiful game I've ever seen.

hmm oddly enough for me it was Red Dead redemption

but there was nothing but wasteland...towns consisted of 10 buildings :| far cry 2 came out 2 years ago and looked better/more impressive (on consoles)

It's a toss up between Just Cause 2 and RDR for me.

Both were pretty expansive open world games and they both looked fantastic.

People are still saying God of War III after the Video Game Graphics Cognitive Dissonance Thread?
Ah yes that thread. I remember it fondly.

When the dust settled, the credibility of zoukka, nelsonroyale and Metalmurphy had been destroyed for all time.

GT5 - When all the stars align, it truly is the most amazing thing I've experienced yet. Online racing, nurburgring/sarthe, dusk/night/dawn, truly amazing.

Red Dead Redemption - The lighting and scale in this game is just stunning... and I played the shit version

Starcraft II cutscenes - Best character texturing EVER!

You mean like when you lost yours by saying Two Worlds was the new king? :lol Also I think you should re-read my posts in that thread. I never said what you think I did.
