The refs were SPOT ON. In fact, if anything the Netherlands weren't gonna get any benefit since from the beginning they would have played with 10 men.

Also, Spain plays a different type of football that isn't just ATTACK MINDLESSLY.... they keep the ball and are patient and it WORKED. So yeah, enjoying the win :D

At what? Diving? If that's what you're talking about, then 10, 10, 10, 10, 10 across the board.

Magnificent job!
There, I went all the way to get them for you:

You have got to be quite an idiot if you spent three hours watching something you don't enjoy. And even a bigger idiot to come to this thread and whine about it.
You're Spanish right? You guys just won the World Cup, why are you being such a dick? Chill out.

xavi made Messi big?:lol :lol no, but Messi sure missed fast thinking players in his team.
Xavi thinks and acts fast, like Messi. The rest of Argentina is slow as FUck.
Maybe i did not express it correctly. Xavi makes Messi bigger XD Both are superlative players, each in a different position. But as seen this WC, messi needs xavis around him and a better coach :P

Xavi also needed, unlike the first matches, play in its natural position. But if Xavi does not win this time, it will be unfair.

so i decided to watch this match...

what an utterly pathetic sport, i'm sorry, but wow. well maybe not the sport, but these players (who are supposed to be the cream of the crop) for certain are absolutely pathetic. over a 100 minutes with no goals, only a bunch of fucking sissies falling to the ground when someone touches them a bit. what the fuck was that shit at the end when the guy was just running lightly and then suddenly he's on the ground for like a minute, writhing in "pain"? and all those others who fell to the ground and wouldn't get up... apparently hurt... but then suddenly in 5 seconds they are "ok" and playing again. are you kidding me? how can people watch this happen continually and be like "hey this is a great sport"???

what the hell did i just watch seriously? are these grown men actually serious?

also the refs are blind idiots. why does this sport rely on them so much? why no use of video playback to check things? you know, like in hockey for example.

i'm really baffled how the hell this is so popular as entertainment.

SORRY i know i'm an annoying little shit coming here crying like this... but i just... wasted 3 hours of my life with this crap, i'm angry as hell and GAF has to feel it :P
No, I understand your feelings.

It was a pretty terrible soccer match, and to have that be the showcase for non-soccer fans is gonna result in reactions like yours.

But like many sports, there's good games and there's bad ones. Had you seen the Uruguay vs Germany match just yesterday, you'd probably be an instant soccer fan.

Spain deserved the victory, but I was completely unimpressed with the players, and the ref, too. He made a lot of good, hard calls, but he also made calls seemingly based on who was complaining the loudest, which is lousy. The players were dirty, diving and a bit uninspired. They seemed to be more worried about getting some sort of advantage rather than playing some good soccer.

And by the way, this is coming from someone who wasn't a supporter of either of the teams. I was a neutral spectator for this World Cup final. I'm just sick and tired of seeing teams get royally fucked over in front of national audiences year after year. I really must be insane for watching sports.

Also, if "the better team won" like most of you said, then that certainly should have been Holland. Spain played like shit in this game compared to their previous matches, even with the referee on their cocks throwing out free kicks like tic-tacs.
We didn't deserve jack shit this match.
We played poorly and Spain completely deserved the win.
Stop whining and man up.

What a satisfying end. I wouldn't have been able to handle Italy winning another world cup. A bunch of diving thugs.

Yes, spain played boring at times (lets see how many passes we can do in 5 minutes!) but Ill take that over endless violent fouls.

-Lol at torres playing 5 minutes and hurting himself
-Good job refs, except for that corner/goal kick obvious mistake
-Im glad most of the dutch team is too old to ever play again
-Epic mistakes on both sides when alone with the goalie
-Im glad it didnt go to penalties again
-WTF at the location of the medal ceremony.
-We're all just puppets in Paul's world

Everytime Robben had those chances I thought he'd bury it. Not sure how to explain them. Did he choke or did Casillas deny him? Last 30 minutes of the game were excellent. Shame about the first segment though.

I'm excited about Spain winning as now kids will aspire to try and play possession football with technique. Not saying the Dutch don't, but I think Spain are more technical.

By way, breaking news. Diego Forlan has won the Golden Boot

Awesome, it was a treat to watch him in this WC

That's football for you. Unfair isn't it?

And then you add up the offside goals, the red cards that don't exist right before the goals, the dives, the amount of faults that didn't get carded, etc etc etc... and THEN you start to realize Spain WASN'T the best team this WC.
No, you start to realize that bad, human refereeing hurts everyone at one point or another.

It is Germany's fault and their fault only they played shitty against Spain.

not all the time, and the ref killed the game sometimes. But they were right most of the time.

You're not going to get a lot of support in this thread, but I honestly sympathize with the majority of your points.

Yes, there was diving in this game. Yes, the sport needs video replay. And yes, this game in particular was not the finest display of the sport. I'm sorry you had to make a judgment on the sport as a whole based on this particularly sloppy affair.

As a neutral, I was also disappointed and am continually frustrated by football/soccer/futebol's apparent resistance to change or criticism.

Spain was the better team. That said, Iniesta was totally diving in those last 10 minutes of play. The 2nd yellow given to Heitinga was total crap. He had his hand lightly on his shoulder, and Iniesta goes falling. Of course, it was only correcting De Jong's Mortal Kombat kick to Xabi Alonso. Then someone else got a yellow and he didn't even TOUCH Iniesta. Then of course, he scored the goal.

I'm not being a dick. I even admitted that Germany, Nederland and a few other teams played greatly during this World Cup. i just don't understand the Spain hate. Stop quoting me and quote the whiners I was replying to.

Edit - Nevermind, the one you quoted was me being a bit of a dick, indeed. Sorry for that one. I wish I could go out and celebrate the victory, but being in Japan and 6am, its not the best time to go party.

well... must say he kinda deserved it.. although i think Xavi has qualities that noobs tend to overlook.

If it's going to some one from Spain, it has to be Iniesta. Some awesome work from him both on and off the ball.

Forlan wins Golden Ball.
Rightfully so.

Not only did he have a lot of goals, but he had a lot of *great* goals, and often delivered them under pressure when they were behind.

By far the player of the tournament for me.

football is a sport. it cannot respond to criticism. blame FIFA and Blatter, not the game.

actually the netherlands did a pretty good job of disrupting their play, but in the end, it cost them too many cards, followed by a red, followed by couldn't stop it.

So well done spain. Excellent try NL. still think the ref sucked though, he was dishing out TOO MANY yellows, a few of those on the slow replay were hilarious bullshit. 13 cards in the match (or more perhaps I lost count)

Can anyone, with football knowledge please explain the offside question on the spain goal? the dutch commentators were talking it over because the goal scorer was clearly offside, then went onside but then scored, so if the ref had have called it right away, no goal. Any comments on this?

Wat the fuck at that montage showing D9 alienship :lol :lol

too bad he missed the last free kick by an inch

Gutted for the Dutchies.

Spain worthy winners. Fabregas makes the difference each time he comes on.
