2011, a year to fear...

Fredescu said:
The hype will be hard to resist, but if it were me and I could only get one or the other, I'd hold off on the 3DS. Launch titles usually aren't the best, and new systems no matter how popular always seem to have release droughts in the first year or two. XBLA on the other hand is mature and should be seeing excellent releases for a long time to come.

Too true. The main titles I would get 3DS for would be Kid Icarus and Paper Mario. I would also get the remake titles. Still, I have such a huge Xbox library that I need to replace it sooner or later. But, it is more likely that we will see a price drop for the 360 next year than the 3DS, so I may be able to save a bit that way. Hopefully they will do like they did for previous holiday bundles and stores will drop the prices to clear them out.

I love how every year as of late seems like the best yet for gaming. Been playing a lot of VVVVVV, Snoopys Flying Ace, NFS: Hot Pursuit, and Black Ops lately! My opinion is we've been drowning in diversity and quality in games, and I hope the trend continues.

Last Guardian, maybe a 3DS with some of those games at some point.

Next year's lineup doesn't blow me away as much as it does some of you. Then again, I'm not one for the yearly dose of AC, COD, _______ (fill in the blank).

I was much more excited at the end of 2009, looking to Galaxy 2 and Last Guardian (lol).

I'm truthfully much more excited for older game prices to drop. I'll find Sly Collection, Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma, and Sin and Punishment 2 in the bargain bin in no time.

EDIT- and Heavy Rain. Can't wait for the price to drop on it!

Every year is supposed to be "extremely expensive", but then that year comes and we see delays, cancellations, disappointments and so on. It's always like that. We have this huge list of games in our minds, that ends up shrinking considerably. Not to mention that the games will be spread out over 12 months.

Must buys for me in 2011:

- Mortal Kombat
- Infamous2
- Zelda: Skyward Sword
- Duke Nukem Forever
- 3DS
Paper Mario
Zelda OOT
Layton
- Bulletstorm
- Okamiden DS

January and February next year are ridiculous. Looking at my preorder list, there are 10 games I'll be buying on day one (4 of which are £50+ Japanese imports), 4 or 5 I'll be picking up eventually and one new console launch.

And that's just stuff with confirmed release dates!

XBLA Titles:
Beyond Good & Evil HD
Hybrid
The Witness
From Dust
Outland
Rayman Origins
Megaman Universe

DLC:
Mass Effect 2
Fallout: New Vegas

XBOX 360 Titles:
Gears of War 3
Dead Space 2
Dragon Age 2
Elder Scrolls V (I firmly believe that's coming next year)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
LA Noire
Max Payne 3
Batman: Arkham City
Forza 4
Crysis 2

PS3 Titles:
The Last Guardian
Uncharted 3

All that and there are still more yet to be announced.

Diablo 3
Guild wars 2
Torchlight 2
Deus ex 2
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood pc
Gears of war 3
Dragon age 2
Elder Scrolls V (doubt it)
Darkspore
LA noire
Bulletstorm

Looks like another year of sequels.

Diablo 3 excitement trumps the rest of the list for me. Won't be getting a 3DS, I know it's gonna be amazing and all, but I'm just not a handheld gamer. My DS, GBA, GB colour, GB pocket have all been rotting in my closet so it's time to kick the habit.

It's looking very, very strong. But we say the same every year and it usually ends in disappointment. This year got off to a cracking start but part way through and bar the next month, it's been pretty poor due to some delays.

Games I'm definitely getting in 2011:

LBP2
Sorcery
Gears of War 3
inFAMOUS 2
Resistance 3
Killzone 3
Ninokuni (if it makes it here in 2011)
The Last Guardian
Batman: Arkham City
Portal 2
Team ICO collection
Football Manager
Uncharted 3 (if it does release in 2011)

There are a lot I'll likely end up getting too. 3DS and PSP2 are likely as well.

Too many games are coming out next year, so many in fact that I'm not going to think about it. I'm not even done with this year's harvest yet. Atleast I'm having fun playing. :)

Looks like a very strong year indeed. However, I've learned my lesson. Outside of a few select titles. I'll be buying everything on sale. If it means waiting until this time next year to purchase Jan-Mar releases at $39.99 or lower, then so be it.

Not a fan of DoW or the Warhammer license, and my list certainly wasn't exhaustive, hence "a few"
Did you play DOW2? I'm not into Warhammer and didn't like DOW1, but DOW2 is just fantastic. The game is structured more like Japanese "strategy" RPG but with real time combat built around destructible cover. (that's just single player though, DOW2 is three games in one).

im really gonna have to go back to my old ways and just bypass some games completely. hate to do it but...not only can i not afford them all but theres no way ill be able to play them all any more than just trying them out...

Damn. Still doubt that their COD is coming 2011.
I think that CoD 2011 will be Sledgehammer's, because Infinity Ward had to hire ~30-40 new developers to replenish their team. I imagine that had a massive negative effect on the development of Modern Warfare 3, and Treyarch certainly aren't going to churn another out in only 12 months.

Only games I'm really interested in are Last Guardian and Portal 2.

A lot of games are sequels to games I haven't gotten around to playing yet, so it seems silly to buy them, although I might if I end up loving the originals.

There's a good amount I am looking forward to for 2011.

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)
3DS
OOT (3DS)
Paper Mario (3DS)
Pilotwings Resort (3DS)
Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle (3DS)
Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright (3DS)
The Another World (Ninokuni) (DS) This is the turn-based one, right?
Shadow of the Collossus & ICO Collection (PS3)
Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together (PSP)
Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSP)

And that is all I can think of right now, I am sure there will be more. Oh, and maybe I'll buy a 360 this year.

Most of the stuff will be 3DS (getting it at launch) + 3DS games. I have PS3, so some great games for that. Plus my backlog from PS2 days is embarassing (Odin Sphere, Yakuza 1+2, Xenosaga 2+3, Final-fucking finish this-Fantasy XII), etc. I'm all good.

Uncharted 3 will be 2012. I don't see Sony rushing to get Uncharted 3 out during a jam packed year like 2011. It would be way too crowded.

Tee hee.

They may still delay it, though.

Gears3
NCAA Football 12
Dead Space 2

Those are the only games I know for sure that I'm buying. Still have a massive backlog to work through.

EDIT: I'm sure I'll eventually buy inFAMOUS 2 and Uncharted 3 at some point.

Great time to be a multi-console owner.

So far:

King of Fighters XIII
Contra Hard Corps Uprising
Muchi Muchi Pork
Otomedius
Gundam Musou 3 (pending quality of online co-op)

Not so bad.

If PSP2 comes out, put me down for one of those @ $299.99!

Looking forward to a Warhawk Player price drop. Reduced feature set has significantly reduced the attractiveness of Sony's console offering this generation. If PS3 drops to $249, that will be closer to an acceptable mark as I'll only use it to play Warhawk, Rockband, and Twisted Mental (assuming it's not da poopoo like TMB).

Think I'll finally be able to pick up a PS3(again) in early 2011. Nevermind the games that are coming out, there are some great games that I've missed that I have to pick up.

$$$ does bring happiness, I'm sure of it.

wallet am cry ..

3DS and maybe PSP2 is enough to kill it, let alone the top quality PS3, 360, and Wii titles. I was even thinking of expanding my horizons and finally getting a top of the line gaming PC. The reality is, some titles will be postponed to 2012. Something that is bitter sweet for me as there isn't enough days in the year to enjoy it all.

The year of the 3.

Uncharted 3
Killzone 3
Resistance 3
Gears of War 3
3DS

i have a big list overall, but i'm really only paying attention to the first 6 months, since those games are starting to become set in stone. The latter half of the year will see numerous delays to make that side of the list more manageable when the games actually release.

I'm oddly canceling Gamefly this year. It was like an all you can eat buffet. I was playing too many games instead of devoting time to the games that i really enjoyed. I was also rushing through stuff too quickly so that i could send them back and get something else.

My expenses should go up as a result of this, but i'll save time, and the time i do spend on games will be on the games i really enjoy.

Well, 2010 sounded like the biggest rape my wallet would suffer through and I could get away with 800-900$ of games this year. (given I wouldn't buy anything until January).
Not alarming. My girlfriend spends alot more than that in a year for make up and clothes.

I'm pretty sure 2011 will fall in the same range for me except maybe for the price of the 3DS that could inflate it near 1000$.

For me it is:

Nintendo 3DS + a ton of games for it (and DS games as well since I don't have one)
Uncharted 3
Battlefield 3
Zelda SS

but I'm sure I'll end up buying a ton more games like I usually do

Planning to get

Killzone 3
Twisted Metal
SOCOM 4 or Resistance 3 (won't get both will see which is better)
LittleBigPlanet 2
NinoKuni
Sorcery
Ratchet All 4 One
Uncharted 3
Last Guardian
Team ICO Collection
Final Fantasy Versus XIII (if that makes it)
Virtua Tennis Move
Crysis 2
Marvel VS Capcom 3
Diablo 3
Mortal Kombat
Deus Ex
Batman Arkham City
Deadspace 2
Gears of War 3
Dragon Age 2
Portal 2
Tactics Ogre
Pokemon Black

Of course because I am a cheap bastard, I will wait for games to go down to £12 before I purchase. The only games I will get day 1 are the bolded ones. Also I will get a 3DS, when 3DS Lite comes out (I can wait 2 years).

I buy a lot of games every year, but I rarely buy them at new release for $60.

With price dropping so fast for games and with huge backlog, I just wait for 6 months and they will be around $20 or less already. I just got a PS3 and I got games like inFamous, 3D Dot Game Hero, Demon's Soul, Killzone 2, Batman AC, Katamari Forever, LittleBigPlanet GOTY Edition etc all for $10-20 brand new. All of the came out last year or this year.

I got like 10 games for around $150, which can only get me less than 3 if I buy them at new release.

Monster Tale <-- spiritual sequel to Henry Hatsworth
Why was I unaware of this game? Day 1 for me.

3DS
Ocarina of Time
Star Fox 64
Paper Mario
Splinter Cell
Mario Kart

DS
Monster Tale
Pokemon White

PS3
The Last Guardian
Project Dark/Demon's Souls 2
Marvel vs Capcom 3
Beyond Good & Evil (PSN release, I have no idea when the sequel comes out)

PC
Portal 2
DotA 2
Shogun: Total War 2
Guild Wars 2
Diablo III
Space Marine
Torchlight 2
The Witcher 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

PSP
Tactics Ogre

Let's see

Zelda and Kirby for Wii, Dead Space 2 for PC.

And for 3DS a bunch of games and a few DS games like Ghost Trick, Okamiden and maybe Pokémon Black.

So far I have 5 reasonably sure purchases for 2011:

Tactics Ogre
The Witcher 2
Total War: Shogun 2
Yakuza 4
Portal 2

Beyond those, I'll mostly just be mopping up 2009 and 2010 releases I've not gotten around to buying or playing yet. If there's a new Diablo III or Mass Effect announced, go ahead and add that to my list, too.
