He still plays in the NBA.

The fact that he can walk correctly, much less play basketball @ the NBA level following that horrific injury, is a miracle in and of itself.

Sure, but just coming back wouldn't be enough for Rubio....

I agree, not sure how bringing up Livingston's injury helps calm down Wolves fans.

Yeah, its a miracle he was able to compete at NBA level, but he wasn't the same player after.

Do ACL tears affect players permanently?

ugh I feel like shit

if it is in fact torn.
its a very long recovery process before he even begins to run lateral at full speed.

unfortunate if its true.
rubio is one of the most fun player to watch

As someone who has torn his ACL, yes, it's a very long recovery. Your ACL never atually regenerates if torn. What they do is cut tissue from elsewhere (either your ham string or knee cap) and use that to replace your ACL.

After which, you're off the leg for 6 - 8 weeks. Immobilised (i.e. no bending, dead straight, no weight on it at all) for 4 weeks. The amount of muscle loss is really distinctive.

And then its weeks of recovery to build up different muscle groups for your lateral movement to take the stress off the pseudo ACL

yeah, i first thought they hit knees.
but looking at it closely, it seems like ricky's leg does a weird turn.
im guessing its not a torn acl and just a hyperextension

Yeah, i don't see an ACL tear in that .gif

ACL Tears are usually fairly obvious with a BIG sideways leg movement. Thats not so large.

Someone (mamba?) mentioned shorter turn arounds. In some football codes in AU players have been coming back after 3 months from an ACL injury. Few things to note, these are guys in codes where they have been training those muscle groups anyway. And... it always ends badly. they usually stop playing after a couple weeks and just go finish a full rehab program.

so the best pro on our 2010 championship team is Lance Thomas? LOL.... oh lawd. Good for Lance though. He probably won't play next year but at least he got his shot.

Just watched the Rubio video. Non-contact slips where the knee buckles like that are never good, but hopefully its just a sprain as he really didn't twist on the knee and that's usually where the tear occurs. Hopefully he won't need reconstruction. They must have seen some laxity in the ligament on exam that would lead them to think this, but whoever leaked his exam results should be fired on the spot.

Yeah, more so a twist on a planted foot that causes the ACL to be over extended. A big lateral bend would come with other injuries to the ligament/meniscus on the inside of the knee as well.

Fingers crossed it's nothing more than a sprain.

Also, the knicks are worse than knicks-bad. They suck. Terribly. Horribly. They'll be so for years. They have been for years. They plain suck. So this is what being a Mets fan feels like. Ugh.

I don't think Rubio's injury had anything to do with the scheduling, it looked more like a freak accident more than anything else. I'll give you Chauncey though since it was a non-contact injury.

I don't know, I've seen plenty of non-contact injuries this year. That one clearly had contact but guys just seem a lot more vulnerable this year.

ACL tears in the NBA are not the easiest thing to come back from, and using Livingston as an example isn't really a good thing. If it is a tear, his season is done obviously. Going to be a long off-season for this kid.

To be fair, Livingston had a catastrophic injury that resulted in far much more damage to his knee than just an ACL. I believe it was his ACL/PCL/MCL and medial meniscus as well as dislocating his patella.

Yeah Im pretty bummed out, this sucks. The only time I saw an ACL tear was while playing an indoor soccer game, one of my teammates jumped for a ball and when he landed his knee twisted in a slightly weird angle, playing on astroturf did the rest.

Hoping this isnt it, but man that sucks.

Hopefully it's a Nicolas Batum situation earlier from the year where it looked like the worst case scenario and it turned out to be a bone bruise.

If Shaun Livingston can come back from his injury, Rubio can come back from that.
Ugh, It was the nastiest thing I have ever seen in my life, and I saw it live too.

I really hope Rubio is okay, didn't watch much of the Lakers game last night cause I was at a birthday part. The only part I did see was that horrible 1st quarter. Hope its nothing serious. Would LOVE to see him on the spain Olympics team to back his shit talking up.
