My Arizona Homer pick is not looking so dumb now after all.

Midwest region has Louisville, Duke, Michigan State, St Louis, and Oregon as a 12 seed. West had Ohio State and a bunch of shit teams. The Selection Committee has no clue

I'll give the committee a pass on Gonzaga and blame that on the idiots who voted them #1 in the national polls. But Oregon at 12 has to be the worst seeding in quite some time.

Yea pretty much. I'm hoping OSU can beat ISU and that Illinois and Minnesota at least give their opponents a challenge. I just don't really see the gophers or Illini winning with how bipolar they are.
Brandon Paul will score at least 30 points tomorrow.

I hope.

arizona/OSU would be a tossup game
Tossup in what sense? OSU is clearly the better team. Anything can happen in single elimination, though.

Clearly? Arizona was ranked #3 at one point, they tend to get lazy and zone out. In terms of talent, Arizona has Ohio beat by a long shot.

kenpom says: #5 vs #18 (right above Minnesota!).
sagarin says: #4 vs #19.

Since when do the human polls correlate to anything? The computers do tend to overrate certain teams (Wisconsin!), but OTOH the national title winner for the last 8 years (since he switched algorithms) has been from the pre-tourney kenpom top 5 all but once (Kemba Walker's UConn explosion).

The gist of OSU vs Arizona is that one team is clearly a threat to win the title, the other is probably not.

Well, had the Zags in the championship game, so my bracket is pretty fucked unless one of those bum teams from the west make it to the final game, or at least final 4

AZ spent most of the season 10 spots higher than OSU. For whatever reason Howland has Millers number, so they dropped. They match up great with OSU.

And kenpom comparisons are no more accurate at predicting champs than the human polls, PAC 12 and b1g are such different leagues now that it's hard to compare stats.

Pre-tourney kenpom rankings since 2005:

2005 UNC 2
2006 Florida 5
2007 Florida 3
2008 Kansas 1
2009 UNC 2
2010 Duke 1
2011 UConn 17
2012 Kentucky 1

Who is more of a threat to win the title, the team that was at #5, or the team that was at #20?

florida was 1st this year weren't they?

I think so.

I'm not saying to bet the farm on it, just that there's a strong correlation, and that correlation suggests that maybe the numbers are useful. =p

And Zaga was 4th... I'm not putting much faith in his rankings here.
Wisconsin and Pitt were inexplicably top 10! Some teams essentially "game" the system by dominating lesser opponents or excelling in a certain style of play. That doesn't mean it's worthless.

If ISU wins tomorrow, I can pretty much guarantee that my morning class will be empty. Plus it'll mean everyone's west bracket is screwed.

fgcu is the lowest ranked team on kenpom that is in the tourney at #106. harvard at #93 got blown out today lol. we'll see how fgcu fairs against a "lesser" opponent.

also poor grambling, they went 0-28 this year :(
