Was it just me, or was it pretty silent when Girl's Generation won the award?

That's because gaga was robbed
and k-pop really isnt that big with the general populace

MIA video was sick, but I wish she performed live

Yeah, not sure why it wasn't performed live. I saw her in the summer and she puts on an amazing show and she sounds great live. Can't wait for the new tour.

The actual nominations and awards mean nothing to me but this has been my favorite awards show since I've tuned in right before the girls accepted some award for Taylor Swift. It's at least been really entertaining in an absurd, nonsensical way.

I'm starting to embrace the chaos of the show. I don't even know what's happening half the time.

I'm definitely okay with it, so far.

It's a refreshing take on how to do an awards show. I need to watch that opening choose your own adventure thing again later.

Eminem's actually putting effort into his performance right now. No backing vocals and lip sync like on SNL.

Good God, now I get what they're doing wrong with censoring. Instead of muting just his voice they're muting both voice and music. Ridiculous and stupid.

Do they really have an award for PHENOMENOM of the year, or is that just a typo?

Because Phenomenom isn't a word, unless they just made it up for their awards show.

Common practice for awards shows, though.

I actually thought my feed was cutting out (which it was, actually).

I also didn't think they'd censor explicit lyrics.

WOW. That was amazing. I didn't think Eminem could perform that well live anymore. That was 1999 Eminem level of awesome.

Hope the uncensored version gets posted soon; that was better than the studio-recorded Rap God.

I really don't think so. Iirc from other shows they're only censoring the voice and keep the music which still provides a flow to the live performance. This shit is unacceptable and very annoying.

That's it? It was like an hour long...

That was an abrupt ending. I expected it to go on longer. I guess that's what happens when you don't have commercials.

I tuned in half an hour late, though. I'm assuming they got to business and just dished out the awards.

Well, I only tuned in for Eminem, but I'm definitely going to try to see the whole thing next year. That was the weirdest shit ever.

Honestly I think there was only five or so awards
Majority of the show was weird host shit

I do like the fact they made some music videos live though, it was really interesting. If they had better hosts the show would have been great

It's usually done on tape delays (which this one probably is), like most awards shows, specifically to censor questionable content. They can't isolate the vocals, so they mute out completely instead.

In any case, I do agree that it is annoying and ruins a performance (depending on how often it's done).

Hmm I like the concept but if it was organized a bit better then it would've been nice. I liked the randomness, no script/ teleprompter, and live music videos.

Couldn't they isolate the voice from the music with the right equipment? And why do they censor and ruin the songs anyway, isn't this youtube? So. many. mistakes.

The delays are usually only a couple of minutes (or even a few) behind, muting is the quickest and easiest way to do it.

Isolating the vocals probably takes longer than the allotted time they're given for the delay. The alternative, which is also common, is artists censoring themselves by just not saying the word or line on the spot.

I was wondering why they censored for that reason. It's YouTube, and as far as I know, it wasn't broadcast on TV.

The way MTV is going, this might take over the VMAs in a couple years. YouTube is way more relevant to music than MTV these days.

They need to have more diverse artists though. If they even got one good metal band next year it would automatically place it above the VMAs for me.

Amazing only like 45,000 views. Gotta figure it costed a lot of dough for Google considering who is performing.
Huh? It peaked at like 220,000. They even said they expect to get most of the views from uploaded videos and not the live event.

I don't understand the point of censoring, it's the internet not cable tv.

I guess maybe for the advertisers but that's just dumb either way.

Crazy that almost infinitely more people listen to music on YouTube than TV, but MTV could literally shit on a 45 and the media would care more.

I really liked that M.I.A. song. How come she never got as big as Katy or Gaga? Her music's just as catchy, slightly better than Gaga's, and much better than Katy's.
