I think I hadn't heard of this or forgot all about it. New casting sheet info for the protags:

I mean, it sounds a bit bizarre, but I hear they're doing great things with the comics for the most part these days, and Aguirre-Sacasa and Berlanti both working on it gives me a lot of hope.

Thanks Joni! And, of course not-- I'm struggling to remember which one that even was. Wait, wasn't Carrie Diaries a 14-15 cancellation? I know it got a 13 episode second season and ended in the Fall. Maybe it was Fall 2013, though.

Fake edit: wow, it really was 2013, though the finale was in January 2014. My, how time flies....

the reason I'm so excited for it

In this case iZombie writers really wanted 22-episode season, they apparently planned the storyline around that number (ep. 13 would be weird place for season finale, they said). Looks like they'll have to make do.
Eh, I'm a little bit annoyed that they planned for more than they knew they'd get. It's nice to have a plan but episode 13 shouldn't be a weird place to end if that could be the end.
I hope that they write episode 19 as a potential series finale, I do not want it to end on a cliffhanger only to see the show get cancelled.

Chuck was very good at writing finales every time they reached the end of their current episode order, the show ended up with five or six potential series finales but that was a good thing, more shows should do that unless their renewal is guaranteed.

salty tweets from the former Bear about iZombie and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend:

@TVGrimReaper Both shows now doomed. 5 or 6 eps is not the "back 9" that gives a show a future. #ExtendAndPretend

@TVGrimReaper That fate for #iZombie surprises the reaper. His prediction tomorrow will be adjusted down to “certain to be canceled”.

@TVGrimReaper CBS Studios affirmative action is more powerful than the reaper imagined if it can kill #iZombie to free up room for low rated CBS shows

@TVGrimReaper These shows are now doomed. But is anyone in the TV media smart enough to realize that? Unlikely.

@TVGrimReaper Orders of fewer than a "back 9" are just schedule filling sparkle. That it can be spun positively is just a bonus.
That dude should realize that just like the networks have no idea what they're doing and fumbling all along the way, so is he.

Is he secretly a TV exec??? All signs point to "why not?"

So you're saying he's the head of NBC? It would make sense.

My feelings about the CXGF additional order, to the haters:

Vampire Diaries and Originals moved to Fridays. 100 returns on the 21st yuss. with legend of tomorrow

Sooner than I expected. Whoop whoop. I think I might be at my limit on comic shows. I watch Arrow and Flash weekly, but I'm not the least bit excited about the Legends show.

Here's The CW's midseason schedule:

Thursday, Jan. 21
8 p.m.: Legends of Tomorrow
9 p.m.: The 100

Friday, Jan. 29
8 p.m.: The Vampire Diaries
9 p.m.: The Originals

Like I asked in the 100 thread, where does Reign go?

On hiatus with no return scheduled yet.

I don't care about LoT either, but if it helps The 100 get better ratings, I'm more than fine with it existing.

CW schedule for mid-season makes a lot of sense, I like it. Jane and CXGF switching places, Legends of Tomorrow paired with The 100 on Thursdays, vampire shows shipped off to Fridays. Logical moves. This is only slightly worrying for Reign and potentially devastating for Containment.

Edit: It appears to be a misinformation. Sorry about that.

The TVBTN people know jack shit in terms of real insight on why decisions are made. Anyone who is a subscriber to this thread can look at the numbers and say hey, those numbers are low. Cancel! Or hey, those numbers look solid. Renew! It's not a tough formula for making predictions, but that formula isn't 100% as they've missed quite a bit and always just blame execs for getting it wrong and not them. What a posh position to be in.

Scream is surprisingly good. It's Degrassi, with more killing.

Oh, for sure. I meant it sincerely. I like Scream a whole lot.

Yeah Riverdale sounds interesting. I've never read the comics though. Are they any good?

Not to piggyback here, but did you get the PMs that I sent ya?

I haven't read any of the current comics, but I've heard good things. I did get the PMs but didn't get to read both yet--I'll reply soon, sorry, it's been a crazy week.

Ah, man. Level with me, please, experts. Does this mean I should start preparing for a final 13 ep season of each next Fall?

Oh, I didn't realize Jane and CXG switched places. So JTV will be 9 now? That makes sense.

Wondering where the heck they'll put Containment.

Cross-posting my Legends of Tomorrow trailer impressions:

It looks kinda fun, but also kind of the worst cheesy aspects of arrow and flash. Color me mildly interested and somewhat skeptical. And a bit burned out from the DC Hero shows. I really hope it's a lot of fun.

Oh, and about The 100. 16 ep S3 will bring the show to 45 eps. That's still kinda far off from stripped syndication (88 eps) even, but they could get there with 2-3 more seasons of similar length.

Is syndication actually still that relevant in the age of streaming and DVR?

Companies pay money as though it is; companies make money as though it is; and major syndication buys seem to do great ratings for their buyers. It's unclear to me why geriatrics haven't gotten onboard with streaming and DVR, but there you have it.

One thing that does seem to have changed is that networks buying syndication seem less interested in the 20-week strip stuff that made for the "magic cutoff" of 100 episodes. So prospects for syndication are being factored into renewal, but not at the same threshold as they were before.

You don't understand why old people don't embrace technology? Really?

Well, yes, of course. I'm just surprised the bar isn't yet low enough. Mostly people in their 50s and 60s (i.e. my parents' cohort) seem to have figured out their cable company provided DVR, and I would have thought that as more TVs have Netflix built in the uptake would be there for some grandparents.

Everytime my mom calls me now she binged another show on Netflix. Latest is Orphan Black, before was Orange is the new black and Narcos.

Damn it, getting schooled on shows by my hippie mom, wtf >_>

Maybe you should just give her your GAF account also.

The move for The Vampire Diaries and The Originals is sad news. I hope The CW sees it as an experiment to make Fridays worthwile, seeing as both shows still gather a lot of views after their live airings.

Reign only having a winter finale in January is good news. That is at least one show that will keep me entertained during the winter, and I hope that will get at least a conclusion either this season or in a shortened one next year. Considering the war of the queens, I hope to see it last a bit longer.

How is Quantico doing? I saw some commercials for it and it seems kinda interesting.
Middle of the pack live, with very good DVR numbers.

I could definitely see The CW making Fridays sorta work again. Hasn't there been a history of supernatural fantasy based shows with large female audiences being able to survive on Friday nights? I'm thinking even way back to stuff like Ghost Whisperer. And like you said, doesn't really change much for the people that watch after the live airing
