She got super lucky, she's doing interpreting work for a team of Japanese journalists and she was the one selected among the interpreters to go with the group that will watch it live.
Wow. What a coincidence. I applied for that job also, but couldn't get it. A friend of mine got it though, but she won't be there at the opening ceremony.

NBC tape-delaying the Olympics is so stupid. Hope you guys don't mind spoilers, or better stay off the internet.

I think the cerimony will be delayed. There's still a lot of people outside of the stadium because of the reinforced security checks.

I have never seen Team Handball mentioned so much on ESPN. At least 3 or 4 times today! I agree with Wilborn too, while I'm gonna watch a lot of things, but Neymar or Messi and a bunch of unknown 20 year kids or Klay Thompson/Kevin Durant's bitch ass shooting 3 pointers is not high on my list. A crazy ping pong, Team Handball, Rugby VII, etc is much more exciting to me.

Curious to see if
  • Bolt and Phelps can win individual and relay medals
  • Simone Biles' performance is the same as world's
  • USA wins gold in men's boxing after being blanked in London
  • Japan can regain their judo dominance after underperforming in London
  • France will continue their dominance in men's handball
  • Burroughs goes for gold again and a first women's gold for the US in wrestling
  • Icho and Yoshida can keep their dominance in women's wrestling
  • Sadulaev is as dominant as he's been in the past two years, especially with the doping scandal in Russia

And a whole bunch of other stuff

NBC fucking sucks and we're stuck with them until 2032 because the IOC is so fucking corrupt.

This makes me wonder how the British press is covering this. They seem to always look for things to complain about.

I imagine most of the press will just go on about how shit it was compared to London 2012. Then again, they were all saying how shit London 2012 was going to be until it actually happened, so you never know.

The ceremony organizer said on twitter that Trump will hate it because it will focus on the empowerment of minorities, women, etc.

Can't spell Olympics without PC, and all those other letters. ○__○

Stadium looks fantastic. Athlete fashion looks fantastic. Let's get it on!

He also said that it will be headlined by natives, black people, women, transgenders; to focus on the safety of nature as a whole and the risks of the oil market.

BBC just said Pele was supposed to light the flame tonight but had to pull out due to illness.

Yes, its true. Vanderlei Cordeiro will light it now. That one marathonist who was stopped by a crazy random civilian and lost the first place some years ago.

So... Who's gonna live .gif this?

Sunhi where are you?

How much longer until esports makes it into the olympics? Imagine that opening ceremony tho..the whole USA squad walking and one fool in the mix all vaping.

Anyone got a streaming link ?
Better yet, media url I can feed to vlc to record the whole thing on pc ?

For once, NBC gets Olympic games almost in the same time zone as the east coast and it's still tape delayed. LOL.

Bro they pulled that shit in Vancouver. If US gets an Olympics before their contract is up. I'm gonna lol if they choose to tape delay a ceremony that plays in that area.

Don't wanna take anything away from the guy replacing him but it's a shame it isn't Pele, he's a living legend.
True, but Vanderlei Cordeiro has a powerful story from Athens 2004, he was going to win the Gold Medal in the marathon when some crazy dude pushed him away from the track and he lose the first place. Dude deserves this.

I'll consider Rio a success if they match to London 2012 foundry sequence.

Edit: BBC commentator opening the ceremony by saying how shit Brazil is. Great.

Great intro by Peter Mansbridge CBC Canada. He went all in on Rio's black eyes.

Yeah, that was great. For all the pageantry and splendor of tonight and these next two weeks, I hope those things aren't forgotten.

The CBC coverage really fucking shits all over anything from NBC. It's embarrassingly bad for a connected 24/7 society. Fuck outta here with tape-delayed bullshit.

You're right, he does deserve it. Hope the ceremony goes well :)
